Ronnie James Dio is the man who started the use of🤘. It became the universal symbol for metal and also love for all heavy rock music. Unfortunately by this stage Ronnie was far from the pinnacle of his vocal abilities. It gives me a heavy heart to watch this performance. To really hear what this legendary vocalist is capable of vocally, you must hear him in his youth. Either with Rainbow from the 70's & 80's. Or early on with Sabbath. The message of this song is to live for the moment. Celebrate and embrace life in every aspect. Don't regret not having lived life and pursued your dreams as you die slowly in your old age. R.I.P. He is Tony iommi (eye-OWE-me), the creative genius who wrote the music for Black Sabbath and was the man who invented metal music in 1969. The great bass (in English, pronounced "base") player is Geezer (Terry) Butler, who wrote Black Sabbath's lyrics during the time Ozzy Osbourne was the singer until Ronnie Dio (singing here) took over writing the lyrics after Osbourne was fired. Butler and iommi had amazing chemistry. I saw them play together live many times over decades, and it was incredible to watch them playing together. The singer is the great Ronnie James Dio, who took over singing for the band after Ozzy Osbourne was fired in the late 1970's. At the time of this show, all three of them were in their 60's, which is even more amazing. When you watch them play you can notice where Iommi had his two middle fingertips cut off in a work accident (on his last day) as a teenager, which makes what he has accomplished even more incredible. Even the guitar he is using in this video is very old, and was the guitar he used in the early 1970's, which is very cool to see. (My understanding is that the name of the band was changed from Black Sabbath to Heaven and Hell in later years to settle a lawsuit with Osbourne over the use of the name. Heaven and Hell was taken from the name of a great Black Sabbath song with Dio singing it.)

These guys are in their 60's playing better than bands half their age. "Bible Black" and "I" are also outstanding songs from this concert.

And the band is Black Sabbath, they have four albums with Dio and Ozzy sued them not to use the name Black Sabbath. Their last album and tour was unfpder the name Heaven and Hell, named for their most famous song.

what really makes me so much into (black sabbath) is the fact i come from birmingham england where they are from. the guy playing lead guitar is (tony iommi). i read something about him where he said that he chopped off three of his fingers on his right hand at work. he had some special plastic extensions made to fit on the ends of his fingers that he lost. he can still play the guitar brilliantly

CLARIFICATION ON THE NAME: Ronnie James Dio became lead singer of Black Sabbath in 1980, replacing Ozzy Osbourne who was fired. They released several albums including 'Heaven and Hell", which this song is from. Eventually, to make a long story short, Ronnie left the band and Ozzy came back. Black Sabbath was later put on hiatus, and the instrumentalists began talking to Ronnie about a reunion. They couldn't call themselves Black Sabbath because technically Ozzy was still the singer, and there would have been legal issues. So the reunited Ronnie-era band called themselves "Heaven and Hell" in homage to the first album they did together, and to let fans know not to expect any Ozzy-era Sabbath songs to be played at their shows. This concert clip is from that "Heaven and Hell" tour, a band which is really just Ronnie-era Black Sabbath without using that name.

Ronnie James Dio, one of the greatest singers ever, the creator of 🤘, and if I'm not mistaken he was battling stomach cancer, which ultimately took his life, at this show/tour 🤘🤘🤘

It should be said that Ronnie James Dio was dying from stomach cancer while on this tour and he knew it. However he never let on that he was sick and went out every night and gave his all. I had got to see Dio many times over the years and was lucky enough to see him on his last tour with Heaven & Hell.

During the filming of this concert, Dio was already suffering from cancer, although it wasn't diagnosed yet.

When Ronnie returned they decide to continue under the name of Heaven and Hell which was the title of the 1st album they did together. This was because they weren't going to play any songs other than Ronnie's while tour and Tony and Geezer were still involved with Ozzy in Balck Sabbath so to not totally cofuse fans as to what they were getting they did the name change , but it was Black Sabbath mark II

Tony Iommi (guitarist and composer) _is_ Black Sabbath to me. Heaven and Hell (from which this song is taken) is my favourite Sabbath album musically, and I adore Dio's singing, but lyrically I prefer what Butler wrote, as it had more of a profound meaning. Always a good listen!

I will clarify this for you! It’s confusing and many fans don’t even know. When Dio took over for Ozzy - he joined Black Sabbath. They did 3 albums together ( under the Black Sabbath Name) After years apart, Tony Iommi, Dio, Butler and Appice formed a new carnation of Black Sabbath. But decided to Name the Band “ Heaven and hell.” Which is most of the confusion. Since they had a song of same name years earlier. Some say because Ozzy was going to do a reunion with Black Sabbath. Either way, The band “Heaven and hell” released an album in 2008? called~ THE DEVIL YOU KNOW. It’s a great Album many don’t know about. With hit songs Bible Black, Follow the Tears, turn the screw etc

You may have noticed that guitarist, Tony Iommi, has leather thimbles on two of his fingers of his fretting hand. This is the result of an industrial accident when he was just 17 where he lost those two fingertips and was told by doctors that he would never play guitar again. When he had sufficiently recovered he made several alterations to his guitar which included fitting thinner banjo strings and down tuning it. This is what gave Black Sabbath their unique sound. Tony is considered both a pioneer and a legend and dubbed The Godfather Of Heavy Metal and the Riffmaster.

The reason the name of the band is Heaven & Hell is that had they used the name Black Sabbath then a part of album, merchandise profits would have to be payed to Ozzy. Ozzy had nothing to do with the band when Dio came on board so the band didn't want to give him or Ozzy's wife Sharon a dime. So the changed the name to Heaven & Hell. This is the same line up as in 1980 when the album came out other than Vinnie Appice is the drummer. Bill ward played on drums in 1980 but quit the band and was replaced by Appice.

They had to change the name of the band after a lawsuit because Ozzy Osbourne was not part of this line up, so they changed it to their most famous album with Dio, Heaven and Hell.

Sharon Osbourne (Ozzy´s wife) stole the name of the band, on a trial :p jeje.... this is the reason that the band (when Ozzy is not the singer) they call it with another name: in this case HEAVEN AND HELL.

In Australia for many years , we had a TV show called Rockwiz. This show was in a very small studio in Melbourne. The band was excellent and every week, Australian artists along with New Zealand and some for overseas would play a music quiz and then the artists would have a chance to sing along with the fantastic band. Serena Ryder , Jeff Martin Gravelly voice from Canada along with Tina Arena would sing, and many other as well.
