I agree with JM's decision in this case. To say that he "stole her child's memory " was a far stretch. I understand that people grieve differently. However, some like the space they are in and the sympathy they get for losing a loved one, as is the case with this mom. She's already made money off the son's death. Now, she wants to watch the funeral over and over again. While the video may not be quality, he's not responsible for her grief. Mom should have known better to have supporting documentation with irrifutable facts. I'm sorry for the circumstances.

I actually followed her son's story on Facebook. It truly touched my heart as a cancer survivor myself. I can't imagine losing my son to this disease.

So sad. I had the same rare cancer when I was 19 called soft tissue sarcoma. I was also pregnant with one of my daughters at the time. Fortunately I survived and am now 37 years of age. I am so sorry for the loss of her son. 🙏🏽I wish we could have seen the entire video though. Idk what to think about the outcome of the case.

She did try to mislead judge when mentioning the videoing of the funeral. That’s when she started to talk during the video and he kept telling her to hush. She got a lot of money and probably spent through it like water.

I will never understand people hiring others that don't have that much experience in something as in photography or videographing for parties, weddings, funerals etc etc and expect the best especially a friend of the family! seems like one would want to pay more money from someone whose much more experienced and have years under their belt.. then run to court!

As sad as this case it, I think she has misplaced anger and emotions. I think he did the best he could to make the video but he is an amateur. It sounds like she was mistaken about a lot of details.

She mis-spoke saying funeral. But a lot of “people,” refer to every event held due to the funeral as the funeral. Which is what I believe she was referencing.

Hmm. I’m not sure. The short clip that we saw from the video could have been a lot better in my opinion, but it seems that emotions have the plaintiff stuck in a rut of (possible) misinformation as evidenced by her accusing the defendant of losing footage that he clearly says he still has, and also saying that he moved to Florida, when he says that he did not. He doesn’t want to be disrespectful to her, so he’s treading lightly, and she is understandably emotional over the loss of her son, so she’s going in hard.

I have missed feelings about this case. We didn't watch the entire 4 minute video so we really can't make a judgment call there re everything he was accused of. Also, seems there were communication issues regarding what was required. The plaintiff complained about poor audio...perhaps the audio in the original footage was bad to begin with? Where I really fault the defendant, was going late...but let's face it, even if he arrived on time, she would've still taken him to court. I just think he did what he thought was right by including the ppl who showed up to support the family at the funeral. Sad all around.

I’m sorry for her loss. I now what it’s like to have sarcoma, I had Undifferentiated Liver Sarcoma at the age 3-8 and it’s still affects me til this day. I pray for who are battling, survivors and their caretakers we are so strong, beautiful and brave

Mom seemed a bit frazzled presenting her case. Maybe it was nerves but to bring back any memory of her child passing had to really hurt. The Defendant had all of this footage for a 4 minute video that was a mess. I think still pictures in a photo book woulda been way better than that video. She paid damn near $1000 for that…really?? 🙄

I feel she should’ve got some of her money back and what messed it up was that she didn’t have the paper with the agreement. She was told he was good at his job and he told her he had a lot of footage of her son. Sometimes we be so quick to get something done or even support someone we know that we don’t do proper research. Yes she mistaken the funeral for the repast, that happens, and they agreed it was to be memories of her son in the video. I hope the rest of the footage have more of him in it and pray her and her family able to come out strong from the loss of their family member. My condolences 💐 🕊 🙏🏽

The judge is very literal like Judge Judy is. She said the defendant had footage of the funeral service. Based off of what she said, JM was expecting to see footage of the actual service, not everybody gathering outside. I personally was expecting to see a casket. With people like him (literal thinkers) you have to be very particular about what you say, and it has to match the evidence (in this case). If it doesn't, then they will dismiss everything you say. There is very little room for correction or error with them. I'm married to one and he is the exact same way. I also have a sister like that.

I think that this is a case of miscommunication. I may be wrong, but I think that she was expecting allll of his footage to be in this 5-minute video, and because she didn't see it all, she assumed that he wasn't going to give it to her. He kept saying, "I have the footage." She should have said, "Can I have it?"

Why in the world would she sue him for no reason at all.. It seems like she just wants to speak about her son to more people... nothing about her case makes sense bc her argument was not even close to winning the case.. she's just sad about what happened and just wants to complain about everything in the world

I don't know how I feel about this one but I learned how detailed a contract should be. How many minutes of footage? How much for creating the video? How much for playing the video? When date is the deadline? Should we allow time for me to approve the final draft of the video? What time do I expect you to arrive at the event? How long should you stay?

Condolences to this mom. My daughter beat SARCOMA CANCER TWICE. Never , ever had heard of SARCOMA. I was scared to death. I never, ever want to see my child go through that again. Watching your child suffer i think hurts you, more than them.

I think she meant that he made a recording on the day of the funeral (which is a shame). She did not pay for a video of people attending the funeral. Anyone with a cell phone could do that. She paid for a video of her son's memories when he was alive. I have never seen a video at a funeral that include the people attending the funeral. Too bad that she did not know how to communicate that. The defendant is a horrible business man if he thinks the footage shown in the video is ok. She paid $900 for basically a sidewalk video of people standing outside of the funeral.

This case pissed me off. She lost her son. So what she can’t explain it right!!!!! I’ve seen the judge dog deeper for less. I don’t know if she’s right, but I feel safe had a right to explain better.

One thing I can side with the mom is the video you would expect to see little more of him then anybody else. I mean I'm little lost too was he suppose to put record the funeral and make a tape out of that too? Now if mom wanted a video of her son. I think she wanted more him. I'm taking the one thanking his mom and dad when she thought was bad recording, And btw that's a video in a video so you may not get sound like the original unless he has the right equipment to do it or truly lack on mastering and editing part, but it should have at least pictures of him in between the showing of other people. Or see a pic in a back ground. Show more video clips. Which I bet those are the files she talking about he deleted. Stating she saying you stole all his memories. If he has the other footage he needs to give it to her. But I seen the potential in his work though. So hopefully he still have the footages she gave him. He should try again maybe he'll do better. The case should of been dismissed based off her claims. She needed help articulating what he really did which is use her sons death to make money off of her and made promises of things he could not fulfill. The video quality picture and sound are horrible and definitely not worth $900

She said she made a lot of money off her son's death. I believe that was a way of keeping her son memory alive for her emotionally. People have different way of grieving. I think to pay 900 bucks is too much for a video like this. The audio was bad in this video. Sounded like it was recorded in a VHS video camera from the 80s. But as soon as she said he recorded video from the funeral. And yes most people believe the day of the funeral is part of the funeral. Legally it is not. A funeral is done at the cemetery. Mathis would have given her the benefit of a doubt if he put in footage from the wake.

I think she misrepresented what she wanted to the defendant. First she claimed to want a memorial video compilation which is exactly what he gave her then she started complaining saying that she wanted footage of the funeral then she said it wasn’t included in the memorial video, but the memorial video was supposed to be separate and for something else. She seemed like she wanted a funeral photographer for herself but didn’t want to pay him to do both jobs and is now blaming him for ruining her son’s memory. I get that she’s hurt and grieving but she came across as completely unreasonable and taking it out on him.
