The third and final round of a weekend of metal detecting shenanigans with ‪@TheCoffeeBushKid‬ was certainly a dig to remember! We started off on a recreation reserve and ended up fence jumping onto a field permission, where my Nokta Legend and I uncovered a treasure trove of badges and relics.
I didn't realise it at the time, but my Nokta Legend from ‪@detect-ed‬ pulled out yet another silver...

Hi Mish, great day out with Andrew, thought I’d comment after you found that rather large buckle, I’ve seen a few found and most have turned out to be a shoe buckle that was on the top of the foot that held up the shoe from the toes up where the laces would be, I could be wrong, but normally they were quite decorative..👍

Not as lucky as that, Harry - I noticed some extremely tall/large trees planted in a row, within a reasonable distance of some of the older structures on site so it stood to reason that people would’ve spent time around them. 😊 I got skunked at the beach on my very next outing (that won’t make it to video 😂) - it happens to me also, I assure you!! Happy hunting mate.

Hello Mish. Another enjoyable hunt with some nice finds. Always enjoy your videos, i find them very relaxing. Just a thought; perhaps someone was out in the field practicing their cast and managed to loose those sinkers. Cheers Justin from a cold wet England.
@slayer8actual
@slayer8actual Жыл бұрын
Hey, Mish! 8:29 I am convinced that Aussies must be the best fishing casters in the world. Apparently you all practice your casting skills anywhere, everywhere and across any type of terrain found on Earth. That could be the only explanation why you continually find sinkers far from water and in parks, pastures, pitches and parking lots. I think those two medallions were incredibly awesome finds! I'm sure someone back in the early 1900's wore those with pride, and since both of those organizations were based in Victoria, they represent not just Australian history but local history. While Australia has fought in many wars since the late 1800's, the bloodiest battle was the Battle of Fromelles on 19 July 1916, World War One, which is the war that medallion memorializes. Australia lost more that 5,500 casualties in a 24 hour battle, and considering the sparse population of Victoria back in the 1910's, a medallion like that most likely held a lot of meaning for some family member long ago. Cool buckles too. They reminded me of the type of buckles you might find on a wide belt that wraps around a dress outfit. More for fashion rather than function. As always, Mish, looking forward to your next adventure!! Later, friend!
@DirtFishMish
@DirtFishMish Жыл бұрын
The places I can find them in are simply ridiculous, sometimes -- but it's also sad that we pollute so many environments with the lead. I can only hope I'm making a difference with what I remove from the oceans in particular. Great research on the medallion, thank you! So much human loss. It's hard for someone of my generation to comprehend simply because Australia hasn't had much war participation in my own lifetime. Cheers mate. :)

I think the reason you find sinkers in areas like that are Dads and Moms take the kids to learn how to cast there fishing rods where it is open with less chance of getting hung up on something . I know I learned how to flycast that way. But mine was a big empty parking lot.

@DirtFishMish
@DirtFishMish Жыл бұрын
Glad you enjoyed it! I disagree on the shovel though, the kickplate is meant to be operated in a different way to a standard shovel. I find it a lot easier on my feet than a conventional design, as I can use the length of my foot instead of just the ball or arch. 😁

Hi Mike, I’m glad you’re enjoying them - thank you for the support! Regarding the bottle, oh I’ve had it suggested a few hundred times or so 😂 however due to the nature of filming these adventures, I’m already loaded up with camera gear, batteries and so forth that aren’t usually carried by a non-filming hobbyist and thus I try not to carry too many items at once. Question: what's the best set up you use for 12 inches plus in a field area?
@DirtFishMish
@DirtFishMish Жыл бұрын
G’day Darrin, definitely not my area of expertise as I rarely get out in open field type locations nor do I tend to go for super deep targets unless it’s in the sand. Of all the kit available to me my best configuration for ground penetration is probably still the Equinox 800 with my 15x12” coil in Field mode - but I do find that very heavy to use, and my arm will tire after a few hours. I actually really don’t like using that coil very much. 😂 There’s a 13x11” coil in existence for the Deus II, if I decided to get more serious about field and open ground detecting I would likely pick that up since the D2 is much more ergonomic. The stock standard 11” coil on any of the machines I use will still have pretty decent ground penetration, especially if the ground isn’t too mineralised! There were targets dug at approx. 10” with the Legend and the 11” coil in this latest vid. Sorry for the word spam, but I hope this helped. 😁

XP deus 2, Legend, nox 900, ctx 3030...which one would you pick if you could only choose one?
@DirtFishMish
@DirtFishMish Жыл бұрын
Oof… big call. Probably Deus 2 for me as I know it is comfortable enough to swing for many hours, and if I only had one machine then I would tolerate equipping and unequipping the antenna cable for water use. 😂 For a newer detectorist though definitely the Legend, the learning curve is much easier and the price point far nicer. CTX too heavy for me, I don’t like the 900’s red backlit screen. Cheers!

@@DirtFishMish I was thinking the Deus 2 for myself also and for the same reasons...well because of the light weight. I used the etrac for a while and even it's weight would wear me out sometimes. Can't even imagine the 3030. Well thanks for responding and good luck with the hunting!

So....Legend or Equinox? Which one wins?
@DirtFishMish
@DirtFishMish Жыл бұрын
Both great machines, Legend thumps the 600/800 in terms of durability and actual waterproofing (since improved on the 700/900, but I’ve not owned either of those). The Legend and 900 are very similarly featured, however the Legend is hundreds of dollars cheaper. That alone is a pretty significant deciding factor 😊
@Testibus00

@@DirtFishMish Okay, thanks. I was considering the Equinox, but I think I just heard you say Legend for the W. I'm gonna buy one this afternoon just based off of the waterproofing issue, alone. I can use the extra three hundred bucks for gas to get to the beach.

@@Testibus00 awesome! It'll be a lot faster to 'pay off' the detector with your finds as well. I'm truly impressed by it. As a heads-up, I typically run it in 'Mw' (multi-wet) Beach mode most of the time, even as I make my way up to the dry sand, it's a super stable program in my region which still produces good results at depth. There are additional salt sensitivity settings which can be tweaked in the Multi-Dry mode if you find it a bit chirpy. Let me know what you think of it when you've had a swing! Cheers :)
