Aw dude, this game is just _overflowing_ with the Y2K aesthetic. All those futuristic fonts, the small goggle glasses, the kinda-Matrix look to everything, the post-vaporwave techno backgrounds, trying to be so ridiculously cyberpunk despite the flipphones and boyband haircuts...

@@NucleaRaptor The way I see it, vaporwave and Y2K are basically two halves of the decade. Vaporwave being late 80s/early 90s and Y2K (or cyber-vaporwave) being the late 90s/early 2000s.

Man, look at this late 90's/early 2000's slab of beef of a man, like 80% of the white dudes I knew had that haircut or the bowl cut equivalent. The opening, if done straight, could be a news story now and I would wholeheartedly believe it, except for the guns part. 8:00 (The Man Who Sold The World plays) "Jake, it has been 9 years."

The picture you there isn't from Mario 3 (on the lady's computer screen), but rather a Swedish kids show that aired in the 70's: "Fem myror är fler än fyra elefanter" which basically means "5 ants are more than 4 elephants". Really good spotting there!! Amuse is also a Swedish gaming developer.

Ahh Headhunter. The game with one of the best, by far, travel songs in the genre. This soundtrack was done by Richard Jacques, of SEGA fame. The same person who did the Sonic R soundtrack, did some music for Jet Set Radio, and was responsible for many of the songs in Metropolis Street Racer before the series became Project Gotham Racing, with Microsoft, and more and more music tracks were from different bands. He may have had a hand in a few songs in PGR1, but his talent is his ability to do many genres of music. A very versatile guy and quite fast in terms of delivering original tunes. Headhunter is one of his first forays, in Videogames, where he began to really flex his orchestral chops compared to his more electronic sound of past titles. Still, even here, you see him mix his orchestral with electronic instruments, particularly flaunted in this game's travel theme.

I always keep ragging on the impossibly generic faux-Hollywood orchestra that are infesting current year AAA games, but Headhunter was just early enough into 6th gen when these types of scores were just coming into vogue and still sounded fresh and exciting. I'm a big fan of Jacques' work on Sanic and MSR, but Headhunter is his magnum opus for sure. *Jack's Theme* alone is a top contender for the GOAT VGM hall of fame.

This was one of my DC favorites, and I think you could easily do a full series. There's the Greywolf fight, the Ramirez fight, the bomb defusal, the Aquadome arena, the Angela/ship level, and the game leads up to a Resident Evil mansion sequence complete with it's own Tyrant knockoff. Don't play Redemption though. It's just...ugh...

I remember Winback! I played it in a friends basement on his N64. Has anyone played the sequel? Winback: The Poseidon Kerfuffle... I'd wager on the possibility of some interesting flophouse content somewhere in that game. At least for those like myself that love obscure and failed franchises. The sequel to Headhunter is another one that most never knew and also has little representation on youtube.

I'm re-playing the game now, having experienced it first in September 2021, and am absolutely loving it, from the atmosphere, style, snappy combat, music, details for the time, familiar satire of a not-so-impossible dystopian futuristic situation, entertaining but slightly hammy story to the mission structure and Leila tests. While it's a shame that it hasn't been ported to modern systems and that there will probably never be a third or fourth game in the series, it's great that people are coming to it years later!
