Skid Row showed up out of nowhere in the late 80s with electric anthem rock like "Youth Gone Wild" and soaring power ballads like "I Remember You". But where did they come from? And where did they go? Join me as I take a look at Skid Row's history from the band's first demo with Matt Fallon on vocals, to how they found Sebastian Bach and took the metal scene by storm.

The fact is, without Sebastian Bach, there is no Skid Row. He's just that damn good. The band needs to stop arguing with each other, and bring him the fuck back !

Correct. They don't even sound the same now. The same thing happened when Sepultura lost Max. They now sound like some nu-metal band.

I love Bach, but the dude cannot sing those songs or do them any justice, anymore. They would simply be playing for a pay check instead of keeping their integrity and doing it for the love of music. They don't get along. Why would you want to play with someone you cannot get along with, just for money? Their current singer does the songs justice, hits all the notes Bach couldn't since the 90's, and the band doesn't hate him. He brings a new energy to the band and the new album sounds like it came after Slave to the Grind. The band was formed before him and all the songs are written by those members. They have found their footing with Erik after 25 years. They sound renewed. Bach has his own band and sings Skid Row songs and it still doesn't sound like Skid Row. Had the band pulled Bach back in, they would have toured for a while and eventually kicked him out again, while falling once again to irrelevance. With their new singer, they have a good energy, and are attracting Erik's built in audience made up of a younger crowd. They sound great at shows and are gaining traction once again.

@shanewalsh4337 well, no matter how handsome he was or how well he sang, the way he behaved was too much to take it over... Bolan has a nasty character as well, though. He's just meant to be the leader, and that is partially he was better off after firing Bach.

Let me tell you this. I waited so long for the 3rd album that when it came out, I listened to the entire album more than 100 times over weeks. Then Nirvana came out in a few months. By the time Nirvana made hypes, all of my heavy metal fanatic friends moved on to Nirvana. I listened to the Subhuman race album for another 2 years while hating Nirvana and all other alternative rocks. My ears just couldn't get used to those alternative bands because I still loved Skidrow so much. I still listen to the full album to this date.

This is probably the first album I ever bought with my own money in 3rd grade. I was an absolutely massive fan. I used to sit on the phone for what felt like forever, trying to get my local station to play them. They never would, probably because they weren't enough like Skynard or Aerosmith. This was Georgia, after all. Skid Row might be the ultimate victims of heavy metal's fall from grace in the grunge era. They had a lot more to give, but the audience had just moved on. They really didn't belong in the 90's music scene, and the fact that they had to try robbed them of their potential. Strangely enough, much later in my life, my wife and her coworkers would get to know Rachel around 2016 when he came into their restaurant. I ended going to see them for free with the singer from Dragonforce. It was a little painful for me because I was a massive fan of Sebastian Bach in the late 80's. But it was still an unforgettable experience.

@@MetalSchoolChannel he really is. He moved to Atlanta because there was this great bar and rock venue north of the city, especially for older 80s bands. There was an Ozzy tribute band that would play all the time. Rachel had an Atlanta plan. But the community complained about the noise so much they were forced to close. Rachel moved away, and that was that, unfortunately.

Your quips on the 90s symbolism, e.g., "we're left with whatever this is supposed to mean" made me laugh. It's so true. Those 90s videos were so dark and weird. The 80s videos were more colourful and fun - and so cheesy, but often in a tongue-in-cheek way. The 80s were better for music and everything else.

No matter what is said about their videos (who really cares?! we don't listen to music for the vids) or their change in sound, regardless of everything, Sebastian's vocals are always top notch with an incredible range and rasp unlike anyone else. His vocals are still, to this day, monstrous! Snakes solos are on point too, although better in their earlier albums. So, not quite sure if this video is against Skid Row or just against Sebastian or exactly what's going on, but the band put out some monstrous metal that will be remembered and loved for many more years. That being said, I still enjoy the videos being put out on this channel. Much needed.

That’s a really good question. Wow. Well, I honestly can’t remember for sure, but this one (and Ratt) was severely butchered by KZfaq and I had to cut down or remove a lot of the music videos. But I also see some other YT channels have posted the In a Darkened Room video with no problem. This was actually only my second video and my first really after deciding to do them “regularly” so by now I’d have figured a way around the video or something and mention it for sure, as I totally agree with you. But yeah, I know I watched the music video for it when I made this one and I try to mention every track with a video, so either KZfaq wouldn’t let me show it or it was a brain fart on my end. Either way, good point!

I absolutely loved the first 3 albums. each offer something different and still rocked. The new album The Gangs all Here, with this new kid, is also absolutely brilliant.

Interesting fact; Nirvana almost got the name Skid Row for their band, but it was already taken!

1991, June: Skid Row drops 'Slave to the Grind' 1991, September: Nirvana drops 'Nevermind' Skid Row did not copy Nirvana's grunge sound in 1991. Subhuman Race album sound was not their fault; Bob Rock did that in the mix, they were not happy about it

Still defending Subhuman Race, all these years later. It's misunderstood, and a bit of a grower, but has some fantastic riffs, and a lot of energy. It's underrated, IMO.

A few decent tracks but the production really hurts it. Maybe if it had a clearer sound like the first 2 it would work better.

Subhuman race may not be quite as good as the first 2 albums, but it's miles better than thick skin. Thick skin is the only album I ever bought that I literally listened to it once and threw it in the garbage. Skid Row needs to realize that bach is 75% of what made them great, without him they are just a boring run of the mill hard rock band. Yes, I do realize bach is a handful though. He's been mature enough to reach out to them several times for a reunion though and they refuse.

Subhuman Race is solid. Some bangers on there. They were headed in a heavier direction. Rob definitely showed he could blast weapons of mass percussion.
