I'm sure this video is for laughs. I agree with your point to a certain degree, but that song in particular really just drags on, in my opinion of course. It's insanely boring to me.

You can’t pace too slow or too fast. Anything faster isn’t better and most metalheads don’t think so. Feels like this was a song recorded at normal speed then slowed down because of the way it’s wrote. No hate to Metallica. I liked the other songs.

He didn't say faster = better, he only said that this particular song sounds a bit more palatable when faster. Which I agree with. Depends entirely on the song.

@@Innovate-pq9ci I don't see it. I think it's one of the weakest on the record, with Screaming Suicide. Can't believe they made those two singles, literally every other song in the album is better, in my opinion. I don't see what is different about it, please elaborate. I think the riffs are pretty uninspired, however i do like the chorus and the "chugging" riff before the end of the song and behind the solo.

@@jag-stang29 I made a previous comment which in hindsight was not very concise, since I'm in a lot of pain due to my back and neck, so I'm rewriting this one. Basically for me it comes down to this: It doesn't progress, as in it feels like it's building up to something, and then meh, just meh. Nothing special. This combined with it just repeating sections for WAAAAAY too long, simple lyrics, extremely simple, boring drumming, and a general feeling that this is just a caricature of what metallica once was, but drunk and unmotivated, leads to my critique. Length is one of many factors leading to how hard it is to get a song, but in this case length isn't a factor because it's so basic and unprogressive. There are 2 minute songs in which more progression happens than this song. I hope that clarifies my thinking.

Legacy bands are going to get attention automatically. But yes, there's a lot of great creative music out there. But there is room for all of it. I'm personally happy to see another Metallica album, and I'm happy with my underground music as well.

@@stevenfunderburg1623 no, not even close. Master of Puppets has 3 different riffs in the first minute of the song with different drum beats. This song however, has the same riff and drum beat for 90 seconds straight. Also Master of Puppets is a 8 minute long masterpiece that has many parts that don’t take away from the song. If Darkness Had A Son should’ve been 4 minutes long maximum.

@@stevenfunderburg1623 don’t worry, I’m not the type of person who says “this sucks” without giving at least some sort of feedback (which I believe I have but if you disagree, I’m sorry). I think it’s a fair claim to say that I don’t care for doom metal since I don’t really listen to it. However, why would I be interested in doom metal in a Metallica track? Last time I checked they’re thrash metal. That would be like watching a two hour long action movie and being mad that 90 minutes of the movie is just love making and boring with no action. Then someone says “oh, so you don’t like 90 minutes of love making then?” What’s lazy to me, is that if you speed up this track it is way better. Not only does it become a shorter song, but it also sounds pretty thrash metal. Honestly, they might’ve written the song at a faster speed but Lars couldn’t play it so they had to slow it down. In terms of Kirk’s solo, I don’t think it was anything new. To me it just sounds like he wants to be noticed by playing a crap ton of notes. He needs to stop bending his notes and doing double stops, try and switch things up. I like the tapping, pedal-tone part. I just think he tried to copy and paste a solo off of master of puppets on this song that doesn’t sound anything like a master of puppets track. I know you didn’t ask my opinion of this, but where did Hetfield’s lyrical writing go? “Temptation” X 4, “He stokes the fire, desire burning.” Remember how good the lyrics on “One” are? That is probably why it’s one of my favorite Metallica songs, also the instrumentals start off slow and slowly build up to the ending. That song is worth being 7 minutes long. Again this is my opinion, you can love this song and there’s nothing wrong with that, I just hope you can accept my opinion that the song isn’t perfect, and if not that’s also fine. I appreciate this perspective, but I don't completely agree, while I think that there's a lot of honesty in Metallica's music, I think that it can still be executed better in some songs, it can be honest but still be better for the listener, honesty is not an excuse for the bad production and horrible snare drum on st. anger or the bad mastering on death magnetic, and the fact is that I still enjoy some songs from st. anger but the production is still bad, it hurts my ears. I also want to make it clear that I dislike people who just shit on metallica because they "sold out" or don't even give one listen to the new album. Overall I enjoyed the new album, especially the production and interesting bass parts, drum mix could've been a little better but it didn't bother me too much, with that said I still think that they could've tried to evolve their sound more and bring new ideas to the table. I also think that they need a good producer to tell them no and help them bring new ideas out because listener experience is more important than artistic intent in my opinion.

Out of all the really powerful metal bands that have been coming out lately, you would think Metallica would have put more effort into making their music good. Unfortunately they are now just riding on the fact that their band name is Metallica.

I respect the road they’ve paved with master of puppets, etc. and helped influence MANY of the bands that I do like. But personally, the vocals are a big no for me and the whole “heavy metal shredding” even as a guitarist bores me.
