I just can't comprehend how these things are designed and planned, where each line goes, each pipe, all the wires, planning where each room in the ship is, order of building and so on... amount of planning is just unfathomable

It's like building a skyscraper but rotated 90 degrees on it's side. CAD is an amazing thing. Navisworks lets you fly though it virtually to find collisions and problems before anything is welded, well, or at least figure out a fix.

*Everything about it is huge.* The population of that ship is like a mid-sized village :-) Good to see that the German ship builders are still competitive on the international market. There seems to be a lot of automation and robot-assist, this is probably why this ship builder is still in operation.

That's what we need a space elevator for. As soon as that's up and running they can just fire the chunks up there one at a time and build submarine type ships ezpz. I believe it has something to do with some level of government support. Meyer is a critical employer in the Lower Saxony region, and received government payouts during COVID. What amazes me is unlike Fincantieri, they aren't state-supported per se, but are still family owned (since 1795!) and in 2014-15 actually bought a second shipyard for more and larger ships

@@mrmike1183 apart from that I find them to be incredibly ugly, they are a huge environmental strain on ports and cities when docked. They generate vast amounts of trash and sewage, and their 80.000Kw oil engines run day and night blowing untreated soot and and crap into cities for the joy and amusement of the lazy turds on board.

This video is an engineering delight! The imagination, design and manufacturing excellence that went into creating this engineering masterpiece is truly exceptional! Yet incredibly, the building of such a technically challenging vessel is now virtually an industry standard! How far design, engineering and manufacturing capabilities have advanced in a relatively short time is utterly remarkable! Thank you for this fascinating video! Subscribed!
