Michael Jai White has made two interviews where he spreads a lot of misinformation about the Shaolin temple and Shaolin Culture. It's very unfortunate to see somebody with his name recognition and his martial arts background talk about Shaolin in this way. I dont want these videos to flaot around KZfaq, without someone setting the record straight. Enjoy and Share!

@@Scoring57 How though? His clout got to him, and he all of sudden thinks he can say whatever he wants, and it's save face too. I don't see why you're defending MJW, I'm a fan too, but he sounds stupid af. We got a black man acting like he's an expert on Chinese culture, when he's wrong on many account, and got some stuff right, a chinese guy calls him out and that's disrespectful? Jeremy Lin got dreads and half your community took offense. This guy basically makes some of his movies based on Asian culture and when he acts like he's all of a sudden an expert when he just knows some stuff, they can't call him out? He's basically appropriating Chinese culture. I'm not making this about race, but I'm just saying, aren't you a bit bias maybe because you probably just see race, maybe because you're not looking at this outside of being too hard a fanboy? Whatever it is you missed the whole point, you got mad before it even started, obviously clouding your judgement. You sound more hurt about him telling the actor to not talk about it because it's not related to you, than listening to the whole point of the video. But I bet you would be more verbal if it's related to misinformation about your culture. Hey, if MJW, was an expert in Chinese Culture, for sure bud. But he ain't. He has a lot of clout, people will believe what he say. If we have an Asian or White man who is just as famous, saying shit like this too about your culture, you'd try to correct them too, and say something like that too, that they need to chill and stop acting like they're some expert, especially when they're an actor who will influence others for sure, thus some form of misinformation will spread. It's a no brainer, but guess you only see colors, because why wouldn't you, a grown man not see it.

@@blu3niverse536 I think you're missing the point. Someone spreading misinformation should be called out for the benefit of all. It's not about judging the person, but their actions or words in this case. Challenging opposing views or having our views challenged is indeed an opportunity to refine our ideas. In this case, how can you say they're wrong? They are stating how they feel about this ('I hate', 'I love'), they aren't otherwise making claims about reality. Furthermore, aren't you guilty of the same thing you are condemning here by 'judging' hnt_TRAE to be wrong, telling them it reflects on who they are, and correcting them by saying they shouldn't judge others? @@jasonroberts6155 oh so because he put it in his bio, that makes it true? Look he may not like it but facts are facts and as previously pointed out he agrees with MJW. What he is mad at is that MJW is calling out the facts. So I can decide to be an Aztec Jaguar warrior? I personally know history professors. I can piece together history, religious beliefs and traditions. I am even the correct heritage and can easily find a correct name to adopt. It is all there to be RESURRECTED right now. If I go train with Nahuatl speaking people for 3 years, I am an Aztec Jaguar Warrior? Or as what happens with most existing religions, we, I would be a modern tribute of my ancestral traditions. Or should we allow the cartel guys who are ripping out a man's heart live peacefully because they are Aztec priest practicing their religious beliefs? I have no doubt this guy is Buddhist, have no doubt he studied at a temple that was built to an amazing degree of accuracy based on known Shaolin beliefs. But the fact is, the original temple was destroyed and he studied at a RESURRECTED temple. No matter how hard we want, how historically accurate, we can no longer become Knights Templars or Viking Berserkers or Jaguar Warriors. We would be students of history and can be based on them, but we can no longer be them.

He's a very kind person but ended in a very bad situation and he said never again. Anyways, Michael Jai also talks about someone having a lot more weight than someone else when it comes to fighting. I have seen small guys whip huge guys behind. Also, when my two brothers and I were growing up this Vietnamese man knew some type of martial arts that his hands felt like sandpaper. We were teenagers and he did a squat and told us to run at him and knock him over. It was like running into a wall. Also, disciplined his son with only his first finger. He was a small man, you would never think that he was that tough. He said that he never went to any school, learned martial arts from his parents lol.

The film I watches the Monks job was to perform a show for tourist. Was this acceptable in the original Shaolin Temple? From my understanding in the past this was not so. Outsiders were not given so much access to the temple, if any. It has been commercialized for profit which by virtue waters down the culture. So he has a valid point although it seems he does not have a full view if the issue.

German knights would for instance learn Ringen, very usefull to know how to grapple and wrestle so they could throw the fully armored opponent to the ground, control his limbs and maybe try to stab him with their dagger in the weaker points of the armor. It really covers a lot of ground and i don't want to confuse you nor poison you with bad information because of my own ignorance, so if it interests you i'd advice you to look for HEMA (Historical European Martial Arts) on Wikipedia. If you want in depth historical information, you should go to the specialized Wiki on the subject, the Wiktenauer. And of course, you always have KZfaq, but take anything you find on YT with a grain of salt because it's not very reliable, as is usually the case with easily digested information. As you will see, there is a practitioner perspective and an academic perspective to HEMA, with a whole spectrum in between. I hope my bad english wasn't too unbearable, and sorry for the mountain of text. During stream of the game Warriors Orochi 4 I joked that Sengoku era superhero Yukimura Sanada would think of the Three Kingdoms superhero Zhao Yun (Zilong) as essentially a caveman. Because while the games make them out to be ancient heroic parallels, to think that they would actually have much in common is absurd considering modern society is closer to the waninng days of the literal crusades than these guys were to each other. Also why did that guy cite the Knights of the Round Table, rather than something like the Knights Templar? At least we know those guys were actually around at some point.

There is one section of your video (towards the end) that I agree with the most. The part about "He knows he doesn't know." A lot of people are "experts" about so much things that they really don't know anything about! Yes The Monastery is one of them but America and the world as a whole have come up with some realities that are no closer to the truth than the Knights of The Round Table. I love truth. I would rather be wrong and learn the truth than spend a life thinking I knew what I have no clue about.

Sad to say, but the Shaolin temple isn't exactly a spiritual hotspot anymore. It's gained so much fame that everyone's trying to get a piece of it. For instance, some folks who sign up to be monks aren't exactly keen on Buddhism - they just wanna learn martial arts or star in some kung fu movies. And that's just the tip of the iceberg.
