I will tell you it's hard work so detailer do earn their money buts it's just become too expensive. So if yiur on a budget, DIY. Doing test areas is key.

Thanks for the explanation, it was helpful. I was hoping you would address the difference in the colors with the foam pads. Some of the other channels will say something like, "you're going to want to use the orange foam pad for this." After hearing those type comments, I stopped assuming that the foam pad color made no difference and were only the manufacturer's choice as opposed to being an industry standard.

Would you choose a foam pad or a MF pad for polishing with Meg’s 205? I’m going to be compounding with M100 on a Megs MF cutting pad since the paint is pretty neglected. I find that M100 finishes down so nice you could almost skip polish and go right to LSP; but this vehicle has I metallic black paint and I just want to ‘jewel’ it up a bit. I’ve never used the MF finishing pads but I’m a fan of them for compounding .

So nothing really answered, great, thanks! Lol! I was just expecting you to show us various types of paint “damage” that needs correction, then tell us which pads, and types of pads, are for which scenarios. What I got was the same info I could get from any pad brand’s marketing. Maybe consider doing what I suggested, I think that would be of more help to people like me that are getting into detailing. Up to you, I’m not hating, just wanted more specific info.

@@BigBear-- to be honest, I think foam cutting pads are a joke. You can remove light/superficial scratches with a foam pad, lots of product, and lots of time….but you could make quick work of it with the proper cutting product and a wool/MF pad. This is my experience in the DA aspect of things
@BigBear--
@BigBear-- 2 жыл бұрын
@@d14_x80 since I made my original comment I got super into detailing. My current opinion is that you match the pad to the job and type of paint. The idea is to achieve the desired effect while removing as little clear/paint as possible to get there. I agree that for heavier damage on average to hard paint, there's no point in dicking around with a foam pad on a DA, and just go with wool/MF. However, I'd be careful generalizing too much and or always making that the first step to paint correction, cause the situation might not require that much cut, so now you're removing more material for no reason. If the vehicle only has light swirling, or scratches, a foam cutting pad with some compound will do a fine job.
@d14_x80
@d14_x80 2 жыл бұрын
@@BigBear-- no generalizing here, my comment was geared towards already knowing the basics of correction…..test spots, paint depth, etc. As I previously stated, foam pads are basically only good superficial scratching

Great video. Stupid question. Let's say you have a vehicle that has a minor scratch on the hood. When you use the compound to remove the scratch are you supposed to do the entire hood or can you just compound the area where the scratch is or do you need to compound the entire hood?

So is it bad to reuse pads during the course of cutting and polishing a car? Like one pad of each but clean it and continue on. Common sense says you COULD do that but is it going to get in the way of my results as a new DIYer. I get that optimally we would have around 7 cutting pads and polishing but that is a lot of money if you bought Lake County or Americana Global. The Chinese made pads you could buy lots for cheap but perhaps they would not work as well or suck up more polish. What is a recommended number of pads for beginners not pros. Thanks

Is a Urofiber 50/50 pad considered on the aggression scale, between a micofiber finishing pad and a microfiber cutting pad? Where would it compare to a foam pad? Would the 50/50 pad be kind of between a polishing foam pad and a cutting foam pad or would it be more aggressive than a cutting foam pad because it is microfiber? TIA!

Hi Luke, happy new year! Just wanted to ask your opinion on the Ryobi 10" Cordless DA Polisher www.amazon.co.uk/gp/aw/d/B01711CNNM/ref=cm_cr_arp_mb_bdcrb_top?ie=UTF8. IMO it's a cheap and effective buffer for a consumer that needs to use it once or twice a year when detailing their own car. Perhaps you could do a review on this type of orbital buffer? I've been using it for 4 years and can't complain. Looking to buy the smaller 6" that uses the same battery from Ryobi. Thanks!

I have a 4 year old car - BLACK. My car has got to the point that swirling is bothering me. I want to use my orbiter but am afraid of knocking off too much clear coat - after a few similar mistakes, I may be left with no clear coat. I plan to keep the car for many, many years. Am I overreacting? Or do you have a pad suggestion that will rid of the swirling AND retain as much clear coat as possible? By the way, that is an awesome logo you got there. Thanks in advance.
