You have a beautiful garden Tracy. You indicate that your background garden is north facing but it appears that the plants against the back fence are actually facing south. Am I mistaken?

Thank you for letting me know. I think you have a great question and I'm not sure if my thinking is correct now. 🤪 I do have to think about this..🤔..the back of the house is facing north but the plants in the back garden get "south" sun. So is my back gardening "facing north" because the back of the house "faces north"? or "south facing" because it gets "south sun"? 🤪 I just "assume" the front of the house faces south so the front garden is "south facing" and thus back garden is "north facing" but I'm not sure what the proper convention is now. :-)

In this video I missed your sweet voice. But your garden is so absorbing. The other day I was thinking that some the plants have grown bigger in your back garden, have you considered reducing the number for thinning purpose.

You are super! Thank you! Yes, many of the plants in the garden are about 6-7 years old and are filling in and/or "fully" grown into its space. I do have to divide and possibly move some of the plants.

Your garden is beautiful. Love all your hydrangeas. I planted two of big leaf hydrangea three years, and no blooms, nice and healthy looking but, no blooms. Could you give me some tips please for my hydrangeas to bloom. Thanks❤

Very few blooms on mine this year too. They bloom on old growth and if you've cut them back (the things that look like dead sticks) or if there was a freeze, like what happened in my area, after they came out of dormancy you won't get any or will get few blooms.

If you are in zone 4-6, the cycles of warm/frost in late winter and early spring tend to kill their blooms on old wood (formed from the previous year's growth). Another reason could be that they get too much fertilizer and that encourages foliage growth and not blooms. The best fertilizer for hydrangeas is a slow release type like the one used for roses or perennials (10-10-10) or one that is specific for "acid loving" plants. You should only give each plant a small amount in late winter or early spring. If the hydrangeas are types that can bloom on new wood - you may still get some blooms but later on in the season. Hope you get some blooms soon.

My boomerang lilac hasn’t started reblooming. I planted last year. You think it’s my soil? I also feed it with miracle grow. My Bobo haven’t fully blooded yet either but better than last year, but still look kind of straggly thin.
@TracysHomeGarden
@TracysHomeGarden 11 ай бұрын
To get the Boomerang lilac to rebloom earlier, you may need to prune it a bit right after the first flush of blooms and give it a handful of rose food and compost. If you don't do any pruning, it will rebloom but later on in the season. Give the Bobo another year to get rooted in and it will improve for you.

Tracy I am living Newfoundland Canada and I noticed your hydrangeas are blooming . I have know blooms yet and we are having wonderful weather now .Are you adding anything to them during season .I gave them fertilizer and flowering food a while ago .yours look amazing sometimes I wonder if I am trying to hard and just leave them alone .😮

I actually only give the hydrangeas some compost back in the spring and no fertilizers. The hydrangeas at the front garden got too much compost and are not doing as well as the plants in the back garden. Hydrangeas are not heavy feeders and don't tend to need too much food. The excess fertilizers tend to encourage foliage growth and not blooms. Next year, you can try to hold back the fertilizer and see if you notice the difference. All the best.
