Guys I love you but you are extremely miss informed. Miller had 45 points last year and 19 goals while being under utilized not 30 points. I wasnt happy with the trade but you blew it out of proportion. He is also signed for 3 or 4 more years. Second, Miller will be playing on the wing either with pettersson or Horvat. I feel like if you are a team that has super stars, whether they are paid fair value or not (Colorado, Toronto ect.), 4 first round picks are probably more valuable than another Superstar. Those picks can lead to players like kapanen, Larkin, guentzel that are super important to have. Especially that those players come in in 2 or 3 years and have time on their elc. With a super young core like the leafs have, it might be better to take the picks. I think their offense is still dope without marner. Maybe add another defenseman or something. Replace marner with kapanen on that line. You still have a great 1st line and a second line centered by John taveres. It's not like you are going to be bad. You actually might get better. Then as the cap grows and kids like kapanen ask for bigger contacts, you have other first round picks to fill some spots. This would be super cool to see, but probably won't happen because Toronto is somehow already in a win now mode 3 years after becoming decent.

Really, the reason the Rockies have not had much success is that they play in the same division as the Dodgers. If you were Mitch Marner, arguably the best player on the Leafs, why would you take 8x10/10.5 or even 8x11. 1) you are taking less money than the other guy who you believe you are at least as good as, and 2) you also need to wait longer for a raise. Yeah Matthews is a C, the more valuable position, but Marner is the better 2 way player and we have seen how valuable top end 2 way forwards, which Marner has more potential to become, are when making deep playoff runs.
