I own two TP albums. Casual fan. Went to a show in '07. Knew every song. Mind blown. Grew up on FM in the late 70's into the 80's. If you have a chance to see him, GO. It is a guitar extravaganza. A fellow pair of guitar geeks called out the guitar changes (every song). The Broadcaster was there. 3 hours of great hit songs and deep cuts. MC's playing brings tears to my eyes. So tasteful.

Played some Petty today with a band, and looked up Mike Campbell’s tone after fumbling through different pedals, a VOXAC30, and a few classic Gibson’s and Fender’s. I’ll be sure to mortgage my house, get a loan from the bank, and sleep in my car to have all that cool stuff to get the sound of The Heartbreakers….. In all seriousness, this guy is The Man for gear and care of all of it. Really enjoyed the cruise through axes and amps. Long Live Tom Petty. Looking forward to see what Mike does with Fleetwood Mac.

So. To recap: 1. 64-65 SG strings - 10 thru 52 - D'adario lt top hvy btm. XL140's 2. Gretch'61 86 Clipper (refinished) - Open G for 'I won't back down.' 3. '54 tele (actually a '59) he obviously got the two teles mixed up. 54 teles, didn't have a rosewood neck. Fender started to use rosewood in '56. guy who sold the Tele to Mike says it is a late '59. 4. '59 (actually a '54) tele w/ b bender* - tuned for 'american girl'. 5. Princeton amp. post 1964. so it's 65,66,or 67. 12 watts 10" speaker. 6. Fender Deluxe wide panel. 15watts through an alnico 12" speaker. 7. Rick 370-360? MapleGlo - (it's a 360 in Fire Glo) mid-60s - used on 'free falling'. 8. Rick '67 375? nope. '67 360/12 double-bound also fireglo. 9. backup tele w/B-bender*. Newer model. maple neck. 10. Rick mandolin with a whammy bar. 11. '59 Falcon stereo - backup for the tennessean 12. '62 Gretch Tennessean 13. Gibson Firebird VII (it's a III, not a 7) - used for 'runnin down a dream' 14. Line-6 wireless modules with cable-emulator. 15. '65 sherwood forest green strat. (that's actually a very rare '64 strat color, charcoal frost) - used for 'you wreck me'. tuned up 1/2 step. 16. Custom black Rick 6-string, 2 pickup. 17. les paul. tuned down a full step for 'I should've known it.' 18. Tom's sitar. tune up to F for 'don't come around here' 19. Gibson Dove acoustic. 20. '54 Barney Kessel 21. Gibson 175 (actually a 50's ES-225 or 125 with original factory spec P-90s) - backup for the clipper. open G. 22. Stratotone. 23. Signature Duesenberg w/ active electronics. 24. Duesenberg Mike Campbell model. 25. wacky guitar w/ drums and distortion - used on learning to fly. 26. les paul re-issue. 27. Pedal Board: > digitech whammy II > Tuner > Green Meany (toggle switch for Excelsior) > > Line6 Delay > Camel Toe Overdrive (1st Version) > > line6 leslie/tremelo/flange/chorus > RC-20 Loop Station > Cry-Baby > 28. Amps n stuff > Fender 62 re-issue Reverb Unit (notice how they jerry-rigged a piece of plywood to stop the sound from bleeding onto the stage. wonder why?) > Little Labs Splitter (1 in - 3 out + DI out ) > Fender Vibrotone (Leslie) > > Fender Tweed Excelsior (13w 15" speaker) for solos > '66ish Princeton > > '55 Tweed Deluxe (Tone: 9, Vol: 2.5) * B-Bender - a guitar accessory that enables a player to mechanically bend the B-string up a whole step. The resulting tone sounds like a pedal steel guitar and contributes a "country" feeling. ** The 'Campbel Toe' idea didn't happen.

Thanks for This. Awesome Video. Saw Bob Dylan at Lang Park outdoor football stadium Brisbane Australia in 1984(?). Tom Petty and The Heartbreakers were Dylans Back-up Band. So The Heartbreakers played a 2 hour lead up set, then backed up Dylan for another 3 hours or more ...... So Non-Stop for 5 Hours ..... During a Cyclone(Hurricane) of Flooding Rain. That night Mike Campbell became my favorite Guitarist, His Lead break on Refugee went for 15 minutes. True Professionals.

I totally agree. Those Neutrik "Quiet Jacks" are tons better than the ones from D'addario with the button. My D'addario cable ALWAYS mutes itself when I don't want it to. Always. The unfortunate part is my D'addario cable has the lowest capacity of all of my cables, including the Mogami. So I still use it often. I may switch the jack with a Neutrik jack to make it a little better.
