I too hate the thought of being hermetically sealed in a house. At my age I will soon be in a permanent sealed box! Seriously, I remember receiving calls from the government re insulation. I was so annoyed with them because they were so persistent. Not everyone's homes need to be insulated. Coal fires for me. Windows open to let some fresh air in....

@@pathopewell1814 I guide agree. I suspect you remember the winter of 1962/63. It snowed around the 29th December and didn’t thaw until around the end of March. I remember my dad having to go up the attic to break the ice on the water tank. I also remember us all moving into one room in front of the Coal fire and putting three coats on. There was no double glazing then and I can recall waking up to frost on the bed clothes. I suspect people are now saying ‘t’were hard times but grand’ in a northern accent but I don’t remember anyone freezing to death that winter. Thing is homes are now dependant in external energy sources like Electricity and Gas but there is two hundred years of coal under Britain. If it was used and mined sensibly it could provide cheap energy for us all.
