I am 22 years old and I am French. When I was little, this music was frequently broadcast on our radio specializing in "classic songs" from the 60s, 70s and 80s. For a long time I searched desperately for this song and finally I was able to get my hands on it.

Head this song for the first time three years ago when I was driving a rental car through Mallorca. Ever since, I've been trying to find the song. I will be driving through France this summer and told myself it would be great if I could listen this song in the car. Today, in a lawn mower dealer this song was playing. I quickly opened Shazam and finally I am listening this song again! I guess I can be thankful for having this technology in my pocket.

I read about her life years ago...here's a strange story. I was visiting the ruins of a house where she was kept under house arrest for a while; my mum got quite upset, and she said that the rooms were 'too small' and she felt claustrophobic. Before we left I bought a guide book...it told that Mary had actually complained about how tiny the rooms of her 'prison' were. Still gives me the willies.

Yep...she had been married as a teen to François II (I think), a French King of ours, pretty sweet...but the boy died of an awful ear abcess. She was then brought back to England where her cousin, Elizabeth, feared that Mary's links to France - where she was super popular - could threaten her Kingdom. The worst is that she actually must have prayed the Lord she could get back to beautiful France... The final break, as Maggie Reily just sings "Never going to...." (without the final words) stands for her inner toughts, cut by the axe falling on her neck as she was behaded (in the most botched possible way). This song is a jewel. A painting, a movie, a novel...a jewel

This song refers to the story of Marie Stuart. Her mother, Marie de Guise (a french lady), regent of the Scotland after the death of her husband, the King of Scotland, sent her very young daughter Marie Stuart to the "cour de France" to save her from the King of England who was seeking for Marie Stuart to kidnap her, and force her to marry and so to take control of Scotland. So, the very young Marie Stuart got protection at the "cour de France" She lived a real dream story of a "little princess", carefully educated as a real future Queen... before she got back to Scotland years after. ...for the rest go to Wikipedia to Marie Stuart. So "get to France" can also be a metaphor meaning "happiness"

One of those rare songs that really captures the tragedy and beauty of being alive in its sound. Dramatic, I know haha, but it’s just one of those songs for me...😌

It's good that you enjoy the 80's music, but please stop telling us that you're in your 20's and that you're listening to it. We get it, you want to tell us that you have better tastes than other people from your generation but the shitty era of today is what it is, it's not going to change a thing. So just listen to all these gems while waiting for the end of times like the rest of us, they're not coming back, hence the nostalgia even for peeps who weren't there back then. Cheers guys.

Mike Oldfield can play around 50 musical instruments. A true musical genious. In many of his recordings, his drummer was Phil Collins!

The playback on the TV shows in the eighties, with unplugged guitars, electric guitars sounding like acoustic and the art of miming is just hillarious! Great artists thou!

Taking on water, sailing a restless sea From a memory, a fantasy The wind carries into white water Far from the islands don't you know you're Never going to get to France Mary Queen of chance, will they find you? Never going to get to France Could a new romance ever bind you? Walking on foreign ground, like a shadow Roaming in far off territory Over your shoulder stories unfold You're searching for sanctuary, you know you're Never going to get to France Mary Queen of chance, will they find you? Never going to get to France Could a new romance ever bind you? I see a picture By the lamp's flicker Isn't it strange how Dreams fade and shimmer? Never going to get to France Mary Queen of chance, will they find you? Never going to get to France Could a new romance ever bind you? I see a picture By the lamp's flicker Isn't it strange how Dreams fade and shimmer? Never going to get to France Mary Queen of chance, will they find you? Never going to get to France Could a new romance ever bind you? Never going to get to France Never going to Never going to get to France Never going to Never going to get to France Never going to
