I was in a car accident years ago, my wife was killed. While I was convalescing ,a girl started bike riding past my house at the same time every day.We became friends. Eventually she became very interested in my finances. She invited me to her parents and when entering the house I noticed Scientology literature on an end table in the living room. When we sat down to dinner with her parents they also slowly they eased into my finances since I won a wrongful death case against the person who hit us. I told them it was all in a trust for my daughter, and I wouldn't be touching it till she went to college, she was four at the time.Later I saw her in passing and asked her what her problem was. She told me her father forbade her to see me because I didn't have enough money. I didn't know anything about Scientology so I did some rooting around (this was pre internet) and when I found out what it was I found another girlfriend and we've been married over forty years. Glad I dodged that one.

I applaud Mike Rinder, Leah Remini, and so many others that have left that are speaking out. If anyone hasn’t seen her show on A&E you definitely should! This cult needs to be stopped!

Totally agree! I have long heard about Scientology but just recently began researching the topic, based on an interview I saw with Leah. KUDOS to her for what she's doing. What is astounding is that the authorities have not been able to step in and tear that place apart, bit by bit, since there are allegations of physical and emotional abuse. And I'm quite sure there are all kinds of financial wrong-doing. Miscavige is an evil narcissist who should be in prison.

Only after they were chastised by the hierarchy and they disclose disturbing truths. Even now their still benefiting financialy! Giving tax exempt status to Scientology was the worst thing the IRS could have done for the safety of the public. The IRS has allowed this cult to become an extremely wealthy, malevolent empire that is now taking over Clearwater FL and has a “church” in almost every big city.

@@ericmoore1493 Yeah most cults do not get government tax exemption. Scientology is one that did make the exemptions - mostly due to the intelligence of its creator - L Ron Hubbard. Even though he was an extremely sociopathic asshole of a man he was pretty clever and devious.

I work in downtown Clearwater with a few members of Scientology. They are weird and can go from 0 to 100 like nothing. I always feel like I have to walk on egg shells because it is such a volatile environment! There is so much I don't understand why someone would still want to be a part of this but I would think that there should be some form of stress management the company already follows the business practices. It is slowly crumbling and more people waking up!

Anne, I would argue that all of those descriptions I gave are likely more true of religions in general than of most secular organizations. Certainly it seemed to be the case in the two religions I was deeply involved in years ago (Mormonism, and then born-again fundamentalist Christianity). Re: Scientology as a religion--copywriting or not copywriting the scriptures is not a criterion for deciding what's a religion and what isn't. If it invokes divine creatures running the universe, offers a mythology to explain life, and posits some moral precepts, it's a religion whether you or I like it or not. And yes, of course having religious status is largely about money--as are most religions. If you don't believe that, just call for taxing the churches and hear them howl about it.

Miscavage stands on an apple crate (well they called it that) when he needs to. Sometimes he has a small podium specially built when he is the only speaker. For group photos, he stands out in front and the camera shoots at a perspective that makes him look as tall as everyone else but his head looks huge.

I really admire Mike Rinder, and Marty Rathbun as well. They're intelligent guys with good consciences, and they were victimized for a long time. Now they're clearly doing all they can to help people harmed by the church like they were.

thor sox He does not. He knows what Scientology is. And he does not "believes"... Belief is for ignorant people, or for those who are made ignorant by not allowing them to have the whole picture. And thus manipulated. Scientology - offers to a person some way to handle various aspects of life. If it's not working - when applied - the person knows of that immidiately. If it's not working - though - it can be due to 2 possible reasons. 1st - its not working in the first place. 2nd - the person applies it incorrectly. So if you do know something as this guy methods of scientology - you will not seise to "believe" it... You will know it and give others what you know. Thats what he does here...

I know of many cults and over my life have had people try to lure me in, but out of them all, scientology has always given me such deep feelings of evil horror. When I lived in West Hollywood I knew some people that were into scientology, They were all fake happy in that creep way we all know from cults, they were often weird, detached from family and very depressed sounding. Many times while living in LA for 25 years since the early 80's may friends and I would walked by the old gothic Presbyterian church building this scam operates out of, my friends and I always got such feelings of evil just seeping from that creepy place... Like Satan living in what was once a holy place :(

I lost my friendship with my childhood friend due to his involvement with Scientology. Criticism is not tolerated. I was called by my friend & manipulated by them into almost signing a false document saying I believed Scientology was a religion. The head of the Royal Oak, MI office tried to sucker me into signing it before I read or understood what I was signing. After I read then objected, she got insanely angry and stood up over me insulting me. I got freaked out and ran out of the office.

Read Tom's biography and you'll know why he is so up Miscavige's butt. Tom grew up without a father figure, with just his mother at the wheel. He has found a father figure in Miscavige and that's why he's up so far into Miscavige's ass. He has found his "daddy". For a boy without a father, this guy fits the bill completely. I hope for Tom's sake, and all his family and daughter, that Tom will wake up one day and look around at the potential life he's left behind. He has children. That's a scary thing for a kid to be in Scientology, the abuses and other horrific stuff they put the kids through. It is really very, very sad to think of him being used by Scientology so that he feels loved...

First off, I just said he was attractive and that doesn't have to be gay. Secondly, I am a literature and religious studies major so I actually do read the bible almost everyday oddly enough. You know the story of David and Jonathan? It's a veiled gay love story "David took off Jonathan's clothes and kissed him making a covenant with him under God to take him in as his own soul." The Old Testament has tons of laws and most are meant for rabbinical or orthodox Jews and then on top of that Jesus/God created a new covenant with man in which the laws of the Old Testament aren't required for salvation. Only Jesus would lead you there. And yes, I am gay. I grew up in a fundamentalist Christian church and it's ridiculous that you'd think that works. I don't want to change who I am and I can't. It's people like you who fucking abused me both sexually and physically trying to rid me of demons. You're so in the wrong its not even funny. No, thankfully I'm not a Scientologist. I've just had a morbid fascination with it for almost a year, which has lead me to read a couple books and watched many interviews, including Rinder's. One of the takeaways is it's not so black-and-white. You can't say because someone was a Scientologist for a long time (even at the exec level) that they've lost all humanity. If Rinder could leave, he has some common sense left in him. And I was honest when I said his previous comment seemed sincere.

The problem is, too many people misinterpret their observations to arrive at a flawed conclusion. If you start taking credit for imposing your will on real life, like controlling traffic lights, you are one step closer to total insanity. You can't say something is false because you haven't experienced it yourself. You are basing truth on what you yourself experienced. I was walking down the road yesterday and got hit by a bus. Fortunately, the bus wasn't true for me so I got away unscathed.

Back in the 80s I saw a commercial on L Ron Hubbard‘s Dianetics and without realizing what it was I called the number and left a message. I told my busband about it. First words out of his mouth was “oh shit!” I get a callback and was pretty much told that I needed to come in and talk to them. I told them I change my mind. They pretty much told me that I really needed to come in and talk to them. I asked them if that was a threat and they told me they knew where I was. I told them to come and get me and I have a shotgun waiting for them and hung up. A few months later I got another phone call from them and it was a more threatening phone calls. Thankfully my husband was there and took the phone and started threatening them. This was a while back but the words I do remember where “Dixie mafia, alligators and swamps”. Never heard from them again
