In this video, I tear down a Mikuni carburetor from a 2002 KX125. I go over the functions of it and how to troubleshoot it.

Cheers buddy. Very informative. I’m having issues with the exact carb on our KX125. Last week the throttle got stuck open. It wasn’t the cable or throttle handle but something in the carb. I’ve stripped the carb down twice now and cleaned it all. It ran when I put it all back together but after a few minutes just died again. I think there are a few issues with it and just trying to work through them.
@wutupclegg6618 Жыл бұрын
How does it run when started? When it dies, is it because it will not idle?
@TheMCMoosey Жыл бұрын
I’ve had a play following watching your video. The last time it started it seemed to run out of fuel. After a few minutes it would then start again. So I’ve stripped it all down again and found some crud in one of the jets. It’s fresh fuel but I’ve ordered some inline fuel filters as that was great advise. The idle speed seemed ok when it did run and I’ve checked the jets and fuel and air routes. I’ll get the filter on first and then continue. Cheers buddy.

@TheMCMoosey how long will it run for?
@TheMCMoosey Жыл бұрын
Not long. Less than 15 seconds. Then give it 5 minutes and it would start again but do the same.
@wutupclegg6618 Жыл бұрын
@TheMCMoosey that could be a couple issues. It could be the float needle isn't opening all the way.

@@wutupclegg6618 yessir, what main jet do you run. My 2001 cr125 came jetted so bad it barely ran I have it in pieces but thinking of buying like 350-390 mains and a 40 a 45 and a 50… any suggestions to not waste money on jets? Also under the assumption it has a red needle from jd kit and I haven’t found a oem one yet or a 2171 that old riders said they used trying to get the bike close to stock and work from there

Sorry for the late reply. It didn't show on my message board. I run the stock jet. The bike is stock, so there's no need to change it. How is your bike running? It might ba another issue.

great video! any idea where i could get an emulsion tube for a TMX 05B? thanks
@wutupclegg6618Ай бұрын
I haven't heard it called that in decades. Try looking searching "Needele Jet" instead of "Emulsion Tube." Needle jet is a lot more common name. eBay has them. Also, Google will have a list of suppliers.

The jet that pull fuel for the carb. Does it get smaller inside? Can't seem to wondering if its clogged or just smaller the the opening up top. Also does it come off? Thanks
@wutupclegg66185 ай бұрын
Are you referring to the main jet? None of the jets change, in size, inside the jet. The needle changes diameter.

How do you get the cable to separate from the cap, is there a c- clip, or is it just pressed in ?
@wutupclegg66185 ай бұрын
Did you take the slide off the cable? To get the slide off, there is a button at the tip of the cable. Push the cable into the slide then slide the cable to the side. You will notice a cut out where the button will slide out. Then, you should be able to pull the rubber boot off the cap and pull the cable out.

Can u plz tellme the throttle screw and the air flow screw specs of the tmx 32 for 2s plz. I got one tmx without the screws
@wutupclegg66182 ай бұрын
I apologize, I wish I really could give you those specs. I don't have those specs. some rebuild kits will come with those screws, and you can find them to be quite inexpensive. You will also need the springs and washers. You will need to search for idle adjustment screw and air/fuel mixture screw. Those are their proper names, just in case.

Hello David. Which seat and needle are you referring to? The float needle and seat? I already have the carb back in the bike, but I'll see what I can do. I believe the carb is a 36.

hello, I would like some advice, I have a newer tmx 38 on a honda cr 250 07, I have already changed almost all the parts on it, I use pj32.5(40) mj 410(420) needle 6gdy26-68(26-65) the engine runs great but I can't set the idle speed... I have to raise the slide and then the engine fires down the hill when the gas is taken off, where could the problem be? how do I set the idle speed so that I don't have to raise the slide
@wutupclegg6618 Жыл бұрын
So, your engine runs fine, but it won't idle?
@jonny621 Жыл бұрын
yes, exactly, everything is OK, but idling has problems, the motorcycle has no problem starting even without a choke, and it has a nice idling, but when I add gas, the idling drops and is terribly low and after a while the engine stops. it's annoying that I already have the freewheel screw and the nut turned at the same time, even so the freewheel is weak, but it's probably drawing gas under the slide because it's firing down the hill
@wutupclegg6618 Жыл бұрын
@@jonny621 I don't have the jet size requirements, so I'm assuming you installed the proper size jets. If your engine has been bored out, you will need to install bigger jets. If a bike will not idle, but runs when giving it gas, it is most commonly due to leaking shaft seals. This is noticed by seeing if there is oil in the stator compartment and/or your bike is smoking really bad. If your bike idles, but doesn't run well, this is usually due to wrong jet sizes. Usually, it due to small jets. It can even be due to a leaking carburetor boot or a bad reeds valve. If it starts without the choke on, it might be due to the fuel level, in the float bowl, being too high. Sorry brother. Without it sitting in front of me and seeing what's going on, I can't be more exact on what's going on. Keep me posted on what you find out.
@jonny621 Жыл бұрын
@@wutupclegg6618 I have to add that even the air screw does not react as it should
@wutupclegg6618 Жыл бұрын
@@jonny621 if there is no change in idle when adjusting the air mixture and idle screw, then it is most likely leaking shaft seals. It's about that time to change them anyways. The good thing is, the seals and gaskets are cheap. The bad thing is, it's a lot of work. If you have old clutch plates, you might want to change those out at the same time. Same thing with rebuilding the water pump. Thos all need to come out, so you might as well change them.

My Carb is not sucking fuel. Everything is clean and none of the holes are clocked. You got any suggestions?
@wutupclegg6618Ай бұрын
Sounds like your float level is too low, or there is a crack in your carburetor boot, between the cylinder and the carb.
