When people refer to upgrading their cars to Stage 1, Stage 2, etc, they are referring to installing bolt-on hardware upgrades on their vehicle, followed by a tune to get the most power out of those modifications. Typically, the higher the stage number, the more power you should expect to see.
In my previous video regarding the KTuner V2, you would have seen there are 2 different base maps that are included on the tuner, and depending on what hardware you have equipped, you can select and flash your ECU to Stage 1 or Stage 2. For my car, Stage 1 refers to the use of 91 octane fuel in addition to an aftermarket air intake. Stage 2 refers to the the use of 91 octane, an intake, along with a fuel aftermarket cat-back exhaust. Before today, I had the Stage 1 tune, but with the addition of the upgraded catback from Magnaflow, Stage 2 is now possible.
The stock exhaust system is meant to be fuel efficient and economical, coming in with an ID of 54mms. It does the trick and still to this day works, however when you rev the car out past 6000rpm, you can definitely feel it is restrictive. The upgraded stainless steel Magnaflow catback and the RV6 downpipe & test pipe have an ID of 60mm, that splits into dual 54mm pipes at the rear of the exhaust. Looking at piping size alone, this will allow 23% more air to flow through this pipe vs. the stock setup. The resonators on both the stock and aftermarket setup are the same straight-through design. The muffler on the stock setup is not a straight-through design, making it quiet, yet not efficient at flowing air. The Magnaflow’s dual mufflers are straight through, which means they aren’t going to be as quiet as stock, but they will for sure allow more air to pass through the inlet to the outlet.
