It’s fine to confuse Shujinko. If I remember right, an ending for a character in a previous game had them attack him because they thought he was Shang Tsun. So it’s canon they’re pretty similar. Such is his curse.

plot twist: It's the actual Shujinko from Cassie Cage's arcade ending in MKX. The devs really did learn from her ending and possibly reused Old Shang Tsung's face model from MK11 for him. Straight clowning on him for two games now

I personally thought MK1 is the last game I'd expect a tournament to be held, coz it seems the story revolves with Liu gathering folks around the realms to find whoever's screwing around in the New Era.

The reason there hasn't been a tournament in an MK game since 9 is that they essentially retold the main games storylines but rebooted in a different timeline. They did MK 1-3 in MK 9 and MK 4 in MKX. MK 11 was dedicated to setting up another reboot. MK 3 didn't have a tournament as it was about Shao Khan conquering Earth. Nor did 4 IIRC. So they were essentially constrained by a combination of the original lore plus their designs to reboot it again. You would have had more tournaments if they had spaced out the story and dedicated a single game to each original game in the new timeline but that isn't what they chose to do.

They gave Motaro all like five of his original moves with a modern makeover. The teleport, the reflect, the kick, the projectile, and the grab and punch - all make cameos as assists now. I'm just stoked that he's back after a quarter century.

I can only repeat what so many have already stated. The fighting community is having such a good time right now. SF6, Mortal Kombat 1, Tekken 8. Also, look at these facial animations! I might not be into the gameplay of MK to be honest, but I still love to watch other play the game (especially Max) and the trailers in general.

@Acewicz"like always" mkx and mk9 are some of the fastest fighting games ever. Certainly faster than Tekken and sf6. Mk1 seems about on par with Tekken speed at least

Not only the facial hair, Max. His face model looks A LOT like Cary Tagawa. I also thought he was Shang for a minute when I first saw the trailer. Of course the mimic moveset made it clear that he was in fact Shujinko. But everyone who mentions Shang here gets a pass.

Motaro is probably gonna be a top tier assist, his barrier alone would put him in top5 with how strong zoning is in NRS games, and then on top of that he has that triple proyectile assist too which also looks nuts. I'm hyped tho cause Motaro deserves to kick some ass even as an assist.

Yeah you realize Mortal Kombat didn't actually use the Mortal Kombat tournament much in their stories. MK 2 had the last tournament until MK 9, this game is the first time the tournament's been used since MK 9.

Seeing Motaro and Sindel made me happy the most especially since they’re both ALL TIME FAVORITE CHARACTERS OF MINE. I was squealing for joy whenever Sindel kicked Shao’s ass. Plus Shao is way more scarier than before and I was excited to reply, “YOU WILL TASTE YOUR OWN BLOOD!!!” whenever Shao said “You will taste no victory…”

The fact that the tournament is run by Sindel and is a peaceful competition instead of one about conquering the other realm is a perfect way to bring back the tournament! Whether it stays that way, like you said, we shall see.

MK9, MK11 and now MK1, 3 ages where the story has reverted back to MK1-3. Why is this such a mystery for you people? The M1K Story is based on MK3 and MK6 Deception storyplots. Here's what's going to happen - General Shao is sick of fighting Liu Kang's "Mortal Olympics", He gets beat up by Raiden and He absorbs Onaga's soul to kick out Liu Kang and Sindel. Most likely scenario is that the Dragon Soul is removed from him and he is killed. Less likely scenario is that he takes over Outworld and become its conqurer.

The MK11 Shao and Sindel Voices has Coming Back which is a Huge Plus, Raiden looks Faster and Agile with impressive Electrokenesis and Great Fatal Blow as a Homage to his MKX X-Ray, Shao looks menacing with tons of inspiration to Steppenwolf, have his Classic Red and Silver Colors and I’m wondering if he’s Onaga’s Son and Mutation like a 2 Legged Centaur?, and Sindel looks like her Annihilation and All of her Deception and MK9 Skins mixed into One with her Fatal Brow being a more Brutal Version of her MK9 X-Ray and Her New Fatality being more Harsher than the Ones from Her MK11 Fatalities, plus I’m wondering if she’s Good or Evil, also Kameo Motaro and Shujinko Looks Sick and Badass with Motaro having Bionic Design that could be one of Shang Tsung’s Experiments and Shujinko has the Glow of the Kamidogu of Earthrealm and they literally use the Face Model of MK11 Shang Tsung, All in All Great Trailer of waiting in this Torture from Gamescon.

As I remember, in the MK3 Arcade-Version Motaro was teleporting around, and the triple fireballs were also a signature-move of him. I believe when you shot fireballs on him, it reflected, but without an animation. It just went back. It seems that they changed that and made it visual. So cool. Not only for being loyal to this character, but also that centaurs seem to be more part of the story and in MK-culture again.

the masks wouldn't be much different from mk11's. Those were indeed next gen renditions, now they wouldn't be much of a jump in fidelity aside from simply different designs

Yo what if Kabal does come back but instead of being a black dragon like last timeline they leave them as a good guy and he's just like some super cop. Like he's really striker's partner but after an incident or "voluntary experimentation" he takes an acceleration injection/inhaler that really give some super speed. IDK just my guess on how they can bring him back but explain the super speed on a normal guy.

Sindel has gone through a few retcons, originally she was a good queen and loving mother who was forcibly wed to Shao Khan and committed suicide. The Sindel of the Original timeline that we fight is a resurrected and brainwashed version brought back by Shinnok and Shao Khan. Then it got retconned in 11 making her a badguy who helped Shao Khan take over Edenia and now I guess they flipped it back to her being a Good Queen again.

With the amount of Deception homage I'd bet he's going to be the main villain in the next game. Probably a cliffhanger at the end of MK1 to hype us up for the return of the dragon king... + They made Shao be more dragon like which hints the theory that he's Onaga's son.
