I have one of these in my bug out bag along with another cheap set of spoon craving tools. It is a decent tool. I mainly use my mora woodcarving knives and tools and a few other special tool that I have picked up. Such as a Mocotaugan those things are awesome.

I don't have a Flexcut and I'm sure it's a great tool, well made etc. but for the $ you can't beat this thing. I found one for 22 bucks and it is well worth it. A very affordable and usable tool.

Ya I like it too. I carry it all the time now. It's a fun little carver. Seems like the more I use it the better my stuff turns out. Still like my traditional tool to though.

That is Old Timer's take of a Carving Jack, and it's probably the best knife they make. As for people complaining that it doesn't lock, there's an entire generation out there who know absolutely nothing about pocketknives other than flip knives that lock, and that are all as useless as teats on a boar. But when you grow up think a pocketknife is supposed to lock, and thinking that a pocketknife should flip and have only one blade, well, you probably have so little knowledge that you'll never understand why those knives you love are all crap. The simple fact is that a locking pocketknife is good for nothing except cutting strings and opening packages. It has no place in the woods. It's nothing more than a small sheath knife that bends in the middle. Woodsmen do not carry such knives. Woodsmen wouldn't give you a nickel for a four thousand dollar flip knife. Woodsmen have been carrying the Hunter, the Stockman, the Trapper, or the Carving Jack since they were invented, and will still be carrying them as long as there are woods. The Trapper is the only pocketknife that has a true skinning blade. A knife that doesn't lock s not dangerous at all, unless it has an idiot using it, in which case any knife is dangerous. If you aren't carrying at least one of these four knives, and preferably two because the Trapper is essential to anyone who traps or hunts, and wants to take the hide off an animal as an undamaged sock, then you don't even know what a pocketknife is for, and you have no clue what being a woodsmen even means. Think woodsmen don't carry these knives in today's world? Fine, then I wonder who's buying a hundred thousand of them each and every year?

James Ritchie myself I carry a Swiss Army knife a couple different ones I go back and forth between them. Or sometimes an old time camillus Boy Scout knife that I like. And now this carving knife now and then. I don't know it I even own a locking knife.

If it's the one I think you mean, the really expensive Carving Jack has some advantages over the Old Timer. It comes with a strop specifically designed to keep each blade and tool razor sharp, it's made from the best steel you can get in a pocketknife of this type, and the components are all top of the line brass and steel, as well.. I wouldn't worry about being sued. No one can sue you over an opinion. If you opinion is that a product is compete crap, you're allowed to say so. Anyway, I don't own that particular Old Timer, but I will soon. I have used it, and it's a pretty darned good knife. I do own a dozen Stockman models, and a dozen Trapper models, from companies other than Schrade, Well, I do own one Old Timer Stockman type knife, but it's as old as I am and had to be retired. Whether it's Ka-Bar, Hen & Rooster, Queen Cutlery, Utica, Case XX, Buck, Frost Cutlery, Rough Rider, Marble, or Old Timer, if it's a Stockman, a Trapper, or a Carving Jack, I want it. Ka-Bar has a Stockman called the Coppersmith that's absolutely beautiful, and that also has the best steel you can get for a Stockman. Unfortunately, the cheapest I've seen it is a hundred and fifty-five dollars. I'd pay it in a second if I had the money to spare, but right now, nope. That's about sixty dollars more than I paid for any of my other pocketknives, and I just can't justify spending that much on a pocketknife right now when I already have so many of them.
