Milwaukee's Gen 3 M18 Fuel Impact Driver has been one of the best impact driver on the market since it came out four years ago. But last month, Milwaukee released the 4th Gen Impact Driver. So does mean better?

I have the Gen4 M18 and LOVE it. It's the most powerful Stubby drill you can get plus tri-led and very lightweight. Very hard to find just walking in a store and won't be on display either. Easy to find on-line. All the guys at work are jealous!!

It’s readily available where I am as long as you want to buy the kit and not just a bare tool. But I agree with you, it’s a great drill.

Another great video thank you, I just pulled the trigger on metabo hpt 36v impact, some Lowe's locations have the KIT, yes the kit on clearance for $111. Anyway I remembered your video on the metabo hammer drill (also on clearance for $111), which I also picked up based on your video and other channel reviews. Check your brickseek! Anyway, I'd love to see a hammer drill showdown with all the major brands as well as an impact driver showdown, put them all together in a deathmatch in the same video

What’s the trigger response like on the GEN four is there a difference? That was supposed to be one of the upgrades something Milwaukee is calling ultimate trigger control. it’s supposed to be more refined dialed in and also gives you more range with the variable speed trigger. Have you had a chance to play around with that. No other review has even mentioned it so your feedback would be appreciated. I actually just found your channel last night and just subscribed last night.

Thanks for the support. Keep and eye out for a short later in the week. I’ll try to find a way to compare the triggers.

Great video! My experience with the Gen 3 is that it cams out quite a bit on Speed 3 with a Phillips #2 bit. Do you have the same issue with the Gen 4 on Speed 3 or do you see less cam out?

I'll have to check. I hate phillips screws so I don't use them often but I'll try to run some tests and let you know.

@@TinkerWithTools thank you sir! Very much appreciated. I’m with you on the Phillips screws. I may ultimately make the switch to star drive screws, but I have too many Phillips screws that I need to go through first.

You aren’t giving up much with the Gen 3. They basically fixed the collet, gave it new lights. The performance isn’t a huge step forward.
@lawdog516
@lawdog516 Жыл бұрын
Informative review, did Milwaukee update the collet to a 2 ball bearing design? I have the one with the 1 ball bearing design which causes the bit to come out, thanks
@TinkerWithTools
@TinkerWithTools Жыл бұрын
Yes. They did a mid cycle refresh to address it on the Gen 3 and then that same two bearing design is on this one as well.

even though gen 4 is slightly better in terms of speed and 3 led lights, these led lights will be a problem. Previously I used a DeWalt dcf 887, when we pressed the tool and it slipped, the screw head would hit the LED and hurt it. I realized it was a problem...
@TinkerWithTools
@TinkerWithTools 9 ай бұрын
Couldn’t the same thing be argued for a single LED, just that it’s more common with 3x the LEDs. While I get what you are saying I think the benefits of better lightning outweigh the risk.

Was the new Gen 4 hotter than the Gen 3 after testing?
@TinkerWithTools
@TinkerWithTools Жыл бұрын
Yes but by a negligible amount. I believe there was a difference of 2 to 3 degrees. Given that it’s slightly smaller and supposedly has a larger motor it makes sense. It was by no means to hot under the testing that I did though. I think it topped at 105 on the back by the vents.

Your tool test seems most accurate tbh… maybe its because the type of wood you’re using… eliminating advantages due to wood grain/knots…. I’m a noob at woodworking. Just my guess. 😆

Pure torque goes to the flex with stacked lithium battery, but these are impact drivers not race cars where more power is always better, we have reached the point where you have to turn these things down to prevent camout and stripped fasteners.
