Acrylic Pour Painting Fluid Art Abstract Art Thick Paint DirtyCup StraightPour
Hello Friends!
The other day I did a straight pour with thick paint and a dirty cup..
For this video I'm using the rest of those paints with an additional color, Payne's Gray. I love the depth and dark contrast the dark dark Navy blue brings, and wanted to see what using both Prussian Blue and Payne's Gray together would do in a Dirty Cup and Straight Pour.

I pour my colors into a Dirty Cup. A Dirty Cup is when your paint is poured from up high into the center of the cup, intentionally making it sink below the surface. (Vs layering it carefully down the side of the cup).
In the video for Zenith, I had used a white basecoat and got white cells (big surprise lol) and I said that next time I wanted to use Gold as the basecoat, in order to get gold cells. I had scraped my table and had my drips in a cup, and decided to use that as my basecoat. I really wanted to stir it up and thin it out, but did not because I was hoping to keep the pretty colors in the cup. This was a mistake, because it ended up blending when I spread it out anyway.. I should have thinned it more before I laid it down. Once I spread it out I knew it was still a bit thick, so that's why I thinned out the white and used that as a flow extender around my pour. I should have used gold lol..
I tilt to cover the canvas, then I rock it back and forth several times to allow the cells to grow. Lots of cells in a straight pour! When you pour your paint from up high, gravity churns and mixes it, aerating it. When it hits the canvas those air bubbles are still there. After a minute or two they come to the surface, and then we pop them with our torch and boom!... Cells!
I love the Payne's Gray in here, it completely changed the painting! Zenith had a lot more dark burgundy tones in it.. this one feels much blue-er and more dark purple, rather than a pinkish red.
To me this painting looks like a wild ocean churning in the moonlight.. the cells are sea spray sparkling in the wind.. very beautiful and dreamy! I really love this one 🥰
I hope you guys have enjoyed this little detour into straight pours with thick paint and dirty cups.. give it a try if you haven't yet! The thing I love about Dirty Cups is that element of surprise.. it's fascinating to me! What will happen?? Have you had good results with straight pours? Please let me know in the comments, I'd love to know what you think!
