I'd love to see Mojang and ultimately Gamersafer make a more firm definition for P2W. Right now its waaaay too vague. We as a community have a pretty firm definition (That is nothing that gives you a firm advantage on official server leaderboards like baltop and istop which a lot of player competition is held over) and I'd love to see them adopt something along the lines of that.

It's nice that they are doing a re-review and were open to talking, but it could just be fluff for the company image. It's worrying how vague and lenient their definition of paying for competitive advantage is, considering how words like "negative impact" could mean so many things. Like on an economy server, paying for advantage won't get you the ability to destroy someone else's economy, but it will shoot you to the top of the leaderboards. So is the feeling of never being able to be on the leaderboards without paying money a "negative impact?" What if the server has no PvP, but someone dies because they didn't buy a kit to fight monsters. Or they starve because they don't have /feed. Surely that's a negative impact also? I'm not going to praise them until they actually start taking those pay-to-win servers down. This matter isn't settled just yet

We have to remember though, the server list is also marketed to children, so anything that gives you an advantage that you pay money for is already extremely wrong.

Good, I think I recommended the making of a doc on tha last video. Just makes it easier for everyone, both the community and GameSafer. Also, I recommend, if you are allowed, putting the full discussion with GameSafer on KZfaq. Of course, cutting out anything they can not tell the public. But I think it would help calm the community if they understood what GS was doing and it allows GS to be more transparent.

So gamesafer basically said "We don't know what pay to win actually means so we're going to squirm out of our bad practices". They're gonna have to reform that entirely.

I had a feeling that the GameSafer people probably did have their hearts in the right place, it's just that they might not have full information about stuff. Nice to know that is the case, and that they're actually doing something in response to feedback.

Thanks for bringing this to light and getting a better look at the process, it's good to hear that they will be reviewing it. At first I thought the reason for the new rules was to avoid allowing kids to get easy access to environments that would attempt to pressure them into micro transactions schemes. Which is a keg that I think will sooner or later get mine craft in trouble if they continue to sponsor any pay servers on their official list.

while I find it commendable that the gamersafer team is friendly and open about it, I am the kind of person to look at the worst case scenario first. So I am wondering if they accepted some form of bribe from those servers or they have a hand in the profits some other way. I know not everyone is corrupt and evil, however I will observe this and if any more *obvious* p2w servers pop up it will make them even more suspiscious. The excuse of "missed it" I do not accept, almost all these servers had a obvious p2w system you notice on a first glance. Maybe it was the amount of servers that made them rush the process, maybe the server changed things after being accepted. either way they should be thorough and in my opinion the list is not a 1-off thing but should be consistently monitored (have quarterly reviews maybe?)

Will hold my breath with the server list changes, but it's a good sign (and appreciated) that they were open to take criticism. My real concern is that Mojang just doesn't care anyway. They've been taking one L after another and them just being all "meh" about it wouldn't surprise me at this point.

for example, when it comes to the penguin g server, I do not agree that there have been any changes on this server when it comes to itemshop over the last 7-8 months - I played season 3 and 4 of SkyBlock on this server and it was and is still the same p2w . I was in the top 10 islands in both seasons, which gives me a pretty good idea of ​​the server itself, and selling IS items for in-game benefits is the norm. In one P2W server i played before i got banned for automating clicking, they had a Sharpness 8 netherite sword as a crate key reward that you have to buy and some more OP gear, and i saw that same server be in the server list even though its pretty clear the people that have money get a competitive advantage while the ones that dont dont get that, also the crate was a monthly crate, i dont remenber how much it costed but from what i saw it costed around $30

This was a very informative video. I'm glad that Mojang/Microsoft has provisions for parents who want their children to entertain themselves in a safe environment, but it was a little hazy as to what they were intending to do with this but having all the information from Gamersafer I think this is a good move by Mojang

I get that the people you talked to on the discord seemed like nice people, and I'm sure they are, but that doesn't change the fact that their definition of "pay-to-win" just isn't good enough. We have to remember why these sort of micro-transactions are bad to begin with, because they're predatory and exploitative. Their definition of "pay-to-win" would allow something like a skyblock server to have an instant pay for everything you need option in the store, then design the entire gameplay loop around grinding tirelessly to try to manipulate people into just buying the quick win. There isn't any pvp, so you could argue that someone buying the best items on their random patch of land won't negatively effect players, but there would still be a leaderboard, or a top balance, or other social aspects that are abused to make people, including children, believe that they need to sink money into the server to play on the same level as other players. That's not even mentioning lootboxes or other exploitative types of gambling that servers can still create to incentivise a purchase. Not to get all conspiracy theory, but I think there's a reason this definition is getting muddier and muddier, especially with Bedrock's minecoins. What their rules are creating is a server list of mobile game inspired trash that have one goal, and its not to share fun minecraft experiences. I understand that servers do need to make money, but if that money is at the cost of the players experience, especially if it is directly harming the development of children or contributing to unhealthy spending habits that can take over peoples' lives, then it has no good reason to be made to begin with.

Somtimes voicing concerns is what needs done dont shy away from covering vital topics that you feel stongly about.

Regarding the google doc I feel some of the investigations were very shallow. One example that comes to mind is that one server was bashed for offering /fly to donators, yet what it didn't mention is that non donators can also gain fly time by voting for the server. In fact, almost every donator perk was available in some form for non donators to access, (non-donators can even earn store credit in-game). I also disagree with the idea of bashing a server for "Voting gives (reward)" like, that's a standard practice and isn't a P2W mechanic in any way.

In my experience a commonly upheld ideal is better than a list of commonly hated don'ts. I'm curious how you believe servers should pay for their upkeep. Have you made a video where you talk about it or would you be willing to talk about it in the future? I'd like to see a video or another way of try to share what Minecraft servers should look like seeing as it can be a lot of work and money to keep some servers running.

Keep in mind that most MC servers that have less than 100 players MUST do p2w stuff to stay afloat. Most MC servers have profits of less than $100/month but owners & team spend hundreds of hours on them each month.

Could you release some more of what they said about their criteria and about the review process? Does Mojang have the final verdict, and GamerSafer is just giving advice? They might be reviewing P2W servers, but they're still on its website.

Hopefully this Fix might’ve done well for Mojang Studios and the Minecraft Community.

Having an interpretive definition is okay if they also list a list of clearly offending definitions, like ones where without a doubt they are in violation of the no P2W. That way they have room to interpret but also can't be wishy washy with some very obvious ones.

I'm alright with paying for perks that are not stupidly overpowered, and currency purchases to buy stuff from the server market for a reasonable price... But I draw the line when it has gambling loot crates, and obviously overpowered perks and ranks like creative fly mode that cost $500..

I'm optimistic with how receptive gamesafer seems to be, but it's concerning how open-ended their definition of pay to win is

As you said in your original video, some of these servers were known P2W before already, so they didn’t make changes after being added to the list. Sorry, but your recollection of this call didn’t add a single new piece of information here. It doesn’t explain in the slightest how the supposed extensive review was able to miss such obvious things.

2b2t also added a word blacklist in chat, the most obvious example being the hard n word if you send a message which contains a blacklisted word - it will be displayed only to your client, essentially lying to you that your message got sent when it didnt i got muted on 2 accounts for bringing up the word bans although i did lightly spam my message, i got muted indefinitely it seems lol

does anyone know why Hypixel which is arguably one of the biggest minecraft servers is not on the list?

tbh even though i'm happy with the 2b2t reverts, my base in the 5m+/5m+ range got found and i'm too paranoid to settle a new base until there's word of some sort of exploit that's fixed. I know there's one related to beehives but it didn't really apply here. Luckily the guy just left a sign to say hi but not gonna chance it, offline/nomad until then.
