Minelab Equinox 800 vs Nokta Anfibio Multi with Live Digs!

In this video I focused on coin signals and compared all targets with both the Minelab Equinox 800 and the Nokta Anfibio multi and then dug the targets. I found some clad, some wheat pennies, and even silver!

Kudos on effective video. My point is you weren't focused on comparing shallow clad signals. And you took the time and effort to switch both and live dig. I rarely watch many to the end, but I did with yours.

i like the way you do your comparisons on real undug targets compared to people who dig holes, drop coins in and fill in the hole to test. Its just not the same and its not an accurate test with loosely packed earth.

I wish you had switched between them: Start with the Minelab on one and start with the Nokta on the next, and so forth. That way it's more of a comparison. If you always follow the Minelab, then it's not a complete 'vs' situation as Minelab is not being tested against the Nokta, only the Nokta is being tested. Thanks for the video, though. Good video, u need to put isat to 00 on the fib. I prefer 2, 3 or 4tone. Are you just using default gain? Or do you have it saved.

Thanks. It was at default of 70 for most of the hunts. It was pretty noisy in most areas if I went higher with gain. I will definitely play around with other modes as well.

hello for a search in salt water what do you recommend? equinox 600 or multi kruzer?

Well I cannot speak on the kruzer as I have not used that machine. I have not used anfibio in the salt water either. I can say the equinox ran perfectly in salt water and on the beach. There was no falsing and it was hitting on coins in and out of water well. I would definitely recommend the equinox for salt water hunting.

I was at a park today and aluminum screw caps come in around 22-25. Right around the same as copper pennies and dimes. Do you have some way of dealing with them? Thanks

Here in my soil Indians are 18-19 wheats are usually 25 or 26 or higher even up into 30s if soil is wet. Silver dimes are 27-29 so I basically avoid 20-25 unless it is a deep signal or I am in an area where I have been digging older coins that are shallower. If you pay very close attention to the sound and the numbers there usually is a very subtle difference between coins and aluminum or other junk. It has taken me 2 years of using nox but I can usually tell the difference between a coin and junk. It is hard to explain I think it just comes with lots of hunting with a particular machine. I rarely ever dig any aluminum or pull tabs now. I dug a ton of trash early on with this machine while learning.

Yes the sounds of the anfibio are hard to deal with as a long time minelab and garret user.

Hey I m trying decide for a good machine no more of $2500 .honestly I m on fire cause for mi is to important how deep they are capable to hunt and at same time I would like all terrain for example : atx is a pulse induction but when I compared its deepth is almost same range of vlf as a xp deus, at max gti, anfibio, etc.sonme advice please?

I do not have experience with atx or deus but the ctx3030 and equinox800 are both very deep machines. I might give a slight edge to ctx on depth. The anfibio is a very good machine as well but in my experience and in my soil here it was not quite as deep of a machine. All those machines you mentioned are great machines and will go deep enough. It is more about preference than anything. Some people just understand certain machines better than others. Watch lots of videos on each machine and pick the one you think you will like to use based on settings and sounds. That would be my suggestion. Good luck and happy hunting!

Those Minelabs are bloody good MD's, from what I can gather. The Equinox range is undoubtedly a class act, but I reckon those tones will for ever remind me of 'The Clangers' (on BBC TV), from way back: on an acid trip... Sorry Mein Labbers. That's the only thing that puts me off 'm. Sad but true! I keep expecting to hear the fekkin Soup Dragon some where in the iron bias!

That is funny. I dont know that show but I love the minelab sounds. I sold my anfibio largely based on the sounds and i cannot stand to hear the xp deus sounds. Garrett was not bad. I think it's all about what you learn on or start out with in the hobby. You get comfortable with certain tones and it is hard to use other brands.

I actually ground balanced the anfibio quite often just not on camera. I was working in a few specific areas where I had found old coins in the past for these hunts and always ground balanced anytime I moved to new area.

So what do you think? I was thinking of getting an Anfibio. I love my NOX 800. Does Anfibio have 5 tone? How do you like the Anfibio

The anfibio has 2 tone and 5 tone modes as well as the 99 tone. I think the anfibio is a good machine but the main drawback is that it can only run in 1 frequency at a time. The simultaneous multi frequency operation of the nox gives it a huge advantage. Personally I would stick with the nox unless money is not an issue and you just like to have multiple detectors. I like to keep at least 2 machines at all times and it doesnt look like the anfibio will replace my nox or ctx in my arsenal. I will likely sell the anfibio after this summer after I have fully tested it and run it against my other machines.

@@historyhuntsman6950 Yes the anfibio multi is definitely better than atpro. I used the atpro for 3 years before I moved on to etrac and then eventually the ctx and nox 800. There are a lot more modes and settings to adjust along with multi frequency on anfibio which atpro doesnt have. I would say the anfibio is deeper as well.

Thanks! Yeah the nox tones are like sweet sweet music to my ears lol. The anfibio VID did tend to fluctuate more especially on deeper targets in the testing I have done so far.

@@jerseydigmore7994 the anfibio has a 99 tone mode as well as 2 tone and 5 tone. It doesn't have iron audio button like say the atpro but you can set the tones and tone breaks for iron to sound off however you like.

So I have gotten my Anfibio. And I've run it through a cpl coins in my test garden. And I want to love this machine but Im struggling to like it as much as my nox800. I think Im setting it up wrong possibly. I cant seem to get solid vdis with it. I seem to get iron buzzes on the bach side of all my coins??? Really choppy signals. Like a wheat penny at 6 inches vdis will jump bad...25 to 85 to 90. Im not sure Im setting something g up right. Any advice? Its happening on all the modes from 2 tone to deep.

Like at the 10 minute mark on this video....the vdi is all over the place and its a wheatie. How do you manage to not dig a bunch of junky targets? It just seems that i wouldnt know what to dig and what not to dig. Just seems choppy and indecisive vdis. I want to love this thing. Haha...i just paid good money for it.

I have had same experience with jumpy vdi. I think that is just the way this machine runs. I am sure with time you will find some subtle nuances that separate trash from coins. There are some videos from other users that have been using machine longer that may have some tricks. I dont have a ton of hours on it yet. The equinox vdi can be jumpy sometimes too but we manage to find lots of good coins with it. I generally say you need at least 100hrs on any machine to really understand it.

I've never used the Anfibio, and I've been considering investing in the unit, as well. I'm anything but well-to-do, poor actually, so I understand your point about paying 'good money' for it. I seem to recall others advising to turn the sensitivity or the equivalent, thereof, down considerably. Many users of this machine have indicated you won't lose much depth at all by doing so, but my feeling is, what's the point in sacrificing any depth, when that's one of key selling points of the machine?

Yes that is the Garrett carrot as many call it. It is the AT series garret pro pointer. I love that pin pointer and I have had nothing but good experiences with it. I don't remember the exact setting used but I know I made sure to use a comparable setting to the equinox sensitivity.

What I gather about the anfibio you can select one of the three frequencies but I'm pretty sure you can't use all of them at the same time like the equinox so I think it's a little misleading if that's the case I watched a review on it and from what I could tell there was no way to use all of them at the same time

You are correct. The equinox is simultaneous multi frequency and the anfibio multi is not. This is what gives the equinox the advantage over most detectors.

@@detectorben8007 what I'm getting at is it is misleading when I heard the word multi I thought that that it was like the equinox until I started watching reviews in other words if you're new to the Hobby and you don't know any better you might buy it because you think it does the same thing as the Equinox but it doesn't I'm not saying it's a bad detector or anything like that I'm just saying you see the word multi in thoughts jump into your head

I agree. I would not be surprised if that was intentional by Nokta. Everyone is scrambling to catch up with minelab after the equinox release but nobody else has the tech right now. I have heard rumors that Nokta may be releasing a simultaneous multi frequency machine in the near future but not sure if it is true.

Deteccion sur no entendi el video. Pero entonces en su opinión me conviene un anfibio multi en vez del equinox800? Estoy por iniciar en este pasatiempo y me decidi por el Simplex+ de Nokta, pero en México ya se retraso su venta hasta octubre, entonces igual ahorro otro poco y me voy por uno de estos equipos..

I prefer the equinox. I sold the anfibio. They are both great machines but I find the equinox feels better ergonomically, its easier to setup and adjust, and I prefer the sounds as well. Performance wise they are very close so it really comes down to personal preference.

Real issue is can you go under water with the minelab. My dealers been selling them faithfully since the inception. Even his screen leaked. It's nice to get the honest ..hell no when asking , would you take this unit under the water. That's a huge issue.

I don't hunt water much so I cannot really say. But I do know several detectorists that use the equinox under water that have had no leaking issues.

Turn on and go 99 tone, minimum adjust, I’ve never hunted like that.

That was kind of the point of the comparison. Turn both machines on and go with minimal adjustments and see how they compare. Every machine can be adjusted for each hunt and every change in ground and hunting conditions and improvements can be made. But many users either don't know how or don't want to take the time to learn and use all the features and adjustments. Many just want to turn on and go. Equinox is the best machine I have ever used for this purpose. The at pro was probably the next best "turn on and go". Ctx3030 is the best machine I have used but a person could literally lose their mind trying to master all the adjustments and also feel confident they always had the right settings for each scenario they encountered.

I agree the sounds tell a lot. It's all part of the puzzle you need to learn to take all the information the detector is giving you including the numbers and screen info to determine what is in the ground.

Actually from what was posted here, he did dig those iffy signals, so my impression is that he used VDI as more of a afterthought to help substantiate the signals not to eliminate the targets.

As an afibio user i can give some good points and bad to the machine. Friend of mine uses the nox 800, deep machine, nice mallow tone and ligtweigt and sikent machine. For the anfibio 2 tone and deep mode are by far the deepest modes 3 tone mode is very silent, bust just a single beep sound 2 tone and deep mode provides depth in sound, as in you can hear by the tone if its shallow or a deep target. Alarm on every mode, as in, if there is an big shallow target it will give a alarm. Very handy is youre hunting ww2 items. A bit heavy with 1,7 kg in total Not a multi freq machine, but optional wit 5,14,20 khz But overal an deep capable machine. I wouldnt trade it for a nox as a ww2 relic hunter

Got a idea for a good fair test. Door knock and hunt the yard with either machine. Do not dig a single target just make notes of how many good for sure cherry picking targets there are. Then hunt with the other and dig the ones it says are good. Do this in the same yard at least 2 rounds and see what one picks out more. Yes it would be time consuming. If I had a Anfibio I would do a test like that. GL&HH Matt

I just cant put my equinox down. I think the anfibio is a nice machine but the equinox is easier to swing and to setup. The anfibio tones are hard to listen to after a while. I prefer the minelab sounds.

Different strokes for different folks. I sold my AT pro, Etrac, Anfibio, and CTX3030 and don't miss any of them. Outside of comparisons I use equinox exclusively right now and I am loving it. Had my best year ever in 2019 as far as coin finds go.

I have not used the MX sport so I cannot dispute that. All I know is the equinox is the best detector I have ever used.

Ugliest machine in the market today,, 2 machines thrown together because not one person in both companies has the brain mentality to think up an idea on there own,, the basically looked at the equinox and thought oh fuck it we’ll make this thing, have it look like something out of Star Wars throw it together and boom job done.. It’s too heavy waist of plastic should be slimed down a hell of a lot more and better thought out. awful machine full of faults

I think that every machine has its issues but this comment misrepresent the equinox. It took me a season to learn mine well. Now I absolutely love it and wouldn't trade it back for my previously favored whites MXT for anything. It was a difficult transition but worth the effort. I dig alot less trash and get good depth. In the past 5 or 6 hunts I have gotten 7 large cents from the early 1800s, a mid 1800s 18k mens gold ring with a tigers eye stone, first year shield nickel, mid 1800s Chinese coin and a 1833 Capped bust Half Dime. Also a ton of real cool relics (gold plate match case, pocketwatch, buttons, crotal bells, ect). I love my equinox. Maybe you were experiencing a operator error issue. Trying turning off and rebooting.

Not to mention the coil ears being complete shit on the equinox, and the epoxy that seals the machine against water has also been known to fail.
