So I just invested in a Nokta Macro Anfibio Multi. At the time of shooting this video in May of 2019, there are a ton of great options on the market and this video will go over why I chose this detector and it will show you my first hunt with it.
Reason 1: Is because of the area that I hunt in and around New York City requires extra depth. Ive dug 3 colonial coins, about 10 large cents and many relics from past eras and 90% of those signals were greater than 10 inches.
Reason 2: Is because New York is Pull Tab and BOTTLE CAP land. Im telling you if you plant a garden in New York, youre gonna grow a few tomatoes that look like pull tabs and carrots that look like bottle tops. Our soil is RICH with trash. Its almost like someone had a party and started throwing up these objects in the air. It is really difficult detecting around these objects so I needed a detector with a fast recovery speed. The Hunter GT just did a segment on this yesterday. Recovery speed is how quickly your detector can move from signal A to signal B (as long as the objects are not within the same coil length). I have a link to Hunter’s video here and you should all check it out. It is must view material for serious detectorists.

Hi, my name is Merrill Kazanjian. New York City is an amazing place to go metal detecting. We have lots of parks, colonial history and great beaches for beach detecting. I have gone to all five boroughs of New York City To Metal Detect and beyond. I also currently own 16 metal detectors. I want to have the best and I want to help you choose the best as well. If I may....when you dig your target cut a plug but don’t go all the way around...leave a hinge so when you are done you can just close the flap. Then step around the edges of the plug so air doesn’t get in there and dry out the grass thus killing it and leaving dead patches in the park. Also take a small towel or cloth and when you dig out the dirt in your hole you can place the dirt on it and then before you close the flap you can pour the dirt back in and thus not leaving a dirty mess and also it fills the hole better. Remember like the Stealth Diggers... leave no trace

Merrill....I appreciate that shout out my friend! A great decision with that Anfibio. You hit on some great reasoning and points in this video. It is not for beginners and takes a sit-down learning session just to get used to it. Nobody could have faulted you for sticking Minelab and going for an E800, but I am happy to see you taking a leap on a new brand. Seems like you are taking a quick understanding of it. I am excited to see how you mesh further with it in your upcoming videos and what the final grade will be.

As far as it showing 5" on a surface find. You need to remember, the pinpoint deptha are based on "coin sized" objects. That wire was much bigger, thus it read deeper. And finally, these machines with visual ID are awesome, to give you an IDEA ofnwhat you are digging, but not a single one from any manufacturer, is 100% accurate. Its the nature of the business. Lots of different metals give similar reactions to detectors, fooling them. Gold will id as aluminim, aluminum will id as gold, flat iron fools all detectors, bent nails fool all detectors. You just need more time on it Charles Garrett said you need to spend at least 100 hours on any machine to really know it, and he was RIGHT. I have about 250 hours on my Equinox 800, and i know it well, i can predict majy of my targets by the way it reacts, but it still sometimes fools me. So hang in there, and dont rely too much on the screen. Go by the tone, the size AND the id all in conjuction.

9" concentric coil best for trashy ground. Using the Gain up to 89 is using a fast recovery speed. 90 and over Gain, is for using slow recovery speed , & best used only in Clean soil conditions . Choppy or quickly fluctuating target response numbers are most of the time trash. Dig only target numbers that lock on pretty much without jumping about erratically. Target ID-ing is just for a " quick " guide and no more . Rely more on the Target Sounds as to if its a digger or not .Your EARS are KING . People get too hung up on trying to rely on Number recognition. Do lots of tests on different objects & coins on a test bed surface to give you an Idea as to the sounds and of course you can see what number each is coming in at but, concentrate more on the SOUNDS each target gives you . Hope this might help some 👍

I've had the Anfibio almost two months, and still trying to understand the target ID's. Obviously the coin signals are more evident, but unsure of where gold and silver may fall. Pull tabs seem to range from 32 and up. A marked 14K ring rang up at 29. Does pinpoint really nice. I use my AT Max when looking for gold signals. Both great machines and do different things for me.

I feel your pain! Check out The Hunter GT’s tutorial. There is a way to normalize the target ID’s! Apparently you have to push the plus and minus buttons at the same time to get to this! It is COMPLEX!!!!!
@larrypendergraft2696
@larrypendergraft2696 4 жыл бұрын
@@MetalDetectingNYC- it's simple to change it to make target IDs normalize across all three frequencies when you know what to do, but it's non-obvious. There are a few things like that, which probably only need doing once, such as having depths display in inches or (better, if you're comfy with metric) centimeters, since you get ~2.5x better depth resolution.

The Anfibio is a Trash Magnet. Powerfull & Super sensitive to every bit of non ferrous metal both good and bad.! . Harder to work in trash than i expected with 11 inch stock coil.. Good Iron rejection / iron ID though.. I need a concentric coil to tame it!. I am field testing an Anfibio Multi at the present time. Once i get 30 hours use on it i will be doing a 30 hour honest review of what i think of the machine. Crown caps, it loves them with the 11 inch coil.. I'm shopping around for a new machine, and there seem to be niggling mechanical problems with the Equinox series, such as crappy camlocks on the shaft that wont stay locked, broken cuffs, and flimsy coil mounting ears that snap off. It's concerning when I see aftermarket parts to reinforce the coil's mounts, I've never had one to break on another machine, nor have I even heard of that happening. The electronics seem great, but the other bits, maybe not so much.

Great detector,but that video you watched just doesnt cutnit for realword results. The Nokta punches deep but only atn full sensitivity, and its chattery as hell. No way would you detect all day with that noise all the time to get that extra bit of depth then the nox,which from those tests wasn't on all targets. I've seen other videos at the beavh where the Nokta isn't was deep as the Nox. The nox is a way superior machine in my opinion.

I will say congrats on your decision. I will say the Equinox 800 is VERY customizable, and is much different than your Safari. And "depth comparison videos" are pretty useless UNLESS you see the same exact machines set up as equal as possible, being used in tons of different settings and soil types, and the same one always is deeper than the other one. One video or even 2 or 3 really dont prove anything. Many times, the one that is supposedly deeper just happens to be the one the person making the video is familiar with. Anyway, I use and own many different detectors and different brands, I have a Nokta Fors Relic, and its an awesome detector. Im sure the Anfibio is as well. Nice video!

The Nokta Makro Anfibio is the metal detecting equivalent of DRIVING A STICK SHIFT CAR! Many people like that. 3 months later, I still prefer my Safari. That says a lot. In fairness, I have found extremely deep targets on it, but it is NOT user friendly. It is also highly mediocre in salt water compared to my Beach Hunter 300.

@@gimbohouse In my opinion, the Nokta Makro is not as good as the Minelab Safari. Having that said, I have 4 years detecting with the Safari and 3 months with the Makro so its really not a fair competition. The Nokta picks up EVERYTHING and the target ID is so similar for Bottle Caps (so many of those in NYC) than it is for coins. Its ability to pick up everything is a credit to Nokta but my Safari was perfectly calibrated and SO EASY to use. If I was to do it over, I would try the Equinox.
