Excellent demo, Kris. There are numerous videos that do nothing but chug endlessly on the bottom three strings. If that’s your style, go for it. I can certainly appreciate the energy that accompanies that mode of playing. But there are guys like me who use all six strings, every reachable fret, and various pickup combinations. I want to hear what an amp does in all registers and all configurations. You supplied me with that information, and I’m grateful for the effort you made to give a detailed and accurate representation of what this little monster can do for my style of playing. My Mini should be arriving in a few hours. Thanks for a most useful tour!

You can get the SLO Mini really clean by not using the front input, and running your guitar or pedals into the fx return instead. This bypasses ALL the front controls (all preamp) and runs the signal into the power amp, which is at full volume, so you have to control your tone and volume at the guitar and with your pedals' controls. In this way, you have a loud and REALLY clean pedal platform.

Nice demo it sounds great. Up to what I heard from all the mini Amp , the SLO is my favourite, then the Bogner, the Friedman and the Diezel. 5150 II(Peavey) and Fender Twin or blackface would be great too

Huhh... so I checked out some of Soldano's stuff at Sweetwater. Pretty much everything is real boutiquey expensive and this thing is way affordable and sounds terrific. Almost the size of one of those cork sniffer pedals too so this thing should sell like crazy.

They ALL sound great IMO! Boils down to personal taste! For me? I'm going with the Bogner and the Solodano, so I can have the perfect Plexi tones and EVH all in one practice amp!

I got mine Thursday. I didn’t have a cab yet so I set it on top of my Mesa TC50 combo and used the speaker from it. Riverside overdrive in the front and my time based pedals in the effects loop. Well…I like the SLO mini more than my TC50. It has tube amp feel and great dynamics, but it’s easier to get a great tone and it just plays better somehow. I set up a great rock tone and if I turn the guitar volume down, I absolutely love the resultant cleans. Beautiful cleans to killer, crushing rock by just using the guitar volume knob. Outstanding. Sorry TC50, but you have to go.

That’s awesome Jason. Yeah it’s really easy to get killer tones with the SLO mini. I was surprised how real it sounds. Definitely not just a gadget.

Thanks man! Have you tried pretty low gain settings? That did the trick to me, I found both channels sounding best with the drive around 9 to 10 o'clock. For more (tight) gain I'd do the same thing as what I always do in front of amps: put a TS or Klon style pedal between the guitar and the amp. Done. Cool hi-gain tone with a balanced EQ.

Hi, Kris, killer touch and playing as always! You are getting pretty good at audio mastering, big improvement when compared to your old videos. I hate to be a party pooper on this one but at the price I think it's shit and doesn't need to exist, plugins and pedals that are cheaper do a better job at emulating a Soldano, let's be honest - it's a toy that looks cool

The Bogner and the SLO sounded more flexibel than the others! Overall I think the Bogner would made the race for me, but this one sounded awesome So far! So ...🤔

To me both sound pretty damn good. The Bogner seems to sound a little rounder and this a little more edgy / aggressive.

All right, for this price, how is it better than the ridiculously more versatile positive grid Spark? It not tubes as all comers are solid state. It isn’t price. At 40W, the Spark can get decently loud for practice. And the Spark can model many amplifiers, pedals, and so on while having a couple of neat practice tricks up its sleeve (though strangely NOT a looper). I’m not saying it’s bad, but not seeing it. You could get a small tube combo in that range if you needed a bit of power for open Mike night, and there are more versatile solid state options like the one mentioned. Yes it has a great sound, but it is A great sound, not hundreds of great sounds.

I have a Spark 40 and it has started giving problems after one year. Sound disappears after five minutes and comes back then the cycle repeats.I checked online forums and found out that many people are facing the same problem. Mine is now sitting on the desk as a decoration piece…LOL-

I think the Bogner has made the best sounding mini one so far. The irony to that is that, aside from the Helios (which is my favorite amp aside from the SLO), I don't even remotely like Bogners...lol. Would be cool to see a Helios mini. Maybe a pedal would make these mini's sound a little better. But, these days if I'm going to go with something "non-tube", I'll just plug straight into my interface and use the SLO, or Cali-Fortin plug-in from Neural. Or, if I truly need an amp-style amp, the Yamaha TH10X is still an amazing little beast. Very cool novelty practice amp, though.

@@Neil-Aspinall nobody cares about brands anymore, instant gratification etc. I doesn't cheapen anything really, every competent guitarist knows this is a toy more than a serious peace of equipment. Nobody buys a 250$ mini sized solid state head and expects it to be more than a toy that looks cool

@@ilmisxx2 'nobody cares about brands anymore' Brands are extremely important. A brand gives you confidence and surety of quality but when you start putting it on toys you will eventually lessen it's worth. You must be very young?

@@Neil-Aspinall Not that young at all, strarting to grey a bit, be it a bit prematurely :) That statement about brands used to be true but not anymore, everything is about profit margins and key decisions are made by businessmen and not musicians or the brand goes under in a year or two. For example please name one brand where any product you buy will be great and if you see that brand you can be sure that you will get your money's worth out of the product

Crazy. Seems like Every KZfaq guitarest with a voice was given one of these Soldano amps. Though they try to show it off in a good light, I'm not impresed, don't think they are as well. Looks like it's shaping up to be an overhyped POS.

Wow Curt…. Great observation…. But was really hoping you would have said Kris was giving Pete Thorn a run for his money and the amp didn’t matter nor the guitar. You really focused on the amp instead. I find that it matters not the amp or the guitar or even pickups…. But the performance one is inspired to forge out using this amp despite what appears to be a gift amp to sell. You are smart to point out what it looks like and I hope it makes you feel better. Can’t wait to see your demo on this amp.I am sure you will prove how much of a POS it all turns out to be. Thanks!!
