Each house we buy gets smaller even though our kids get bigger. I think we learned the hard way less is more. Less hills, less stress. Like you we would like to downsize but our interest rate will keep us in our current home for a while. I always tell my kids I am the cleaning lady. The less I have to clean the better. And having my kids all share one bathroom upstairs has taught them to learn to schedule showers with their sibling’s. They will make good roommates someday.

Omg I’ve watched so many videos about minimalism and have been taking it all on for the past few years now and I love it but theres always something that stops me in my closet like a a road block. I think you just put into words what I experience! Too many choices are making me crazy. Several of the same exact sweater in different colors or 6 pairs of boots in different heights is totally silly for what I do daily (teach art) and those are just two of the dozens of categories. What a powerful message😊 My husband and I are entering a new phase of life. Both of our children are in college and we’re thinking about what we want the rest of our lives to look like. Our current home is 1500 sq. feet for our family of 4 and it’s plenty big enough. I’d like to go smaller, but my husband mentioned keeping the same size in case our kids ever need or want to move back home in the future which with this economy could be a real possibility. We’d always want a place for them to come home too. Either way, we will be selling our home in SW Florida within the next couple of years and moving out of state again with all 4 seasons. We’re originally from MA and moved down here in 2016 because all of our immediate family members live down here. It’s been wonderful to have our kids be around their cousins and to have tons of family gatherings, but I’m missing Fall and Winter. Anyway, I’m rambling, but as I’m decluttering I ask myself if this is something I want to pack up when we move. Most things are a “no”. Like you, we also want the freedom to be able to travel. I’m done with wasting money on things I don’t need and I’m done with being overwhelmed with anxiety from the clutter. Thanks for another wonderful video.❤

When I was younger, I wanted to live in an old house with a small farm with sheep 🐑 and chickens.. when my mother passed away, I inherited her home. It is a small ranch with one level… now that I’m older, I’m glad that we do. My friends may have to move because they only have one bathroom… so I’m glad that we have the option to move or stay as long as we want to. 🥰🙏🌻

You should watch the you tuber Bayley made it. she's been a minimalist mom way longer than you and really walks her talk. you tubers like Shannon Torres and Scandish home have sold out to money and really aren't genuine any more. your channel does seem to be still heart felt and honest. Elin lesser is also a genuine minimalist and as she is also a psychologist does dive into the more deeper aspects like you just talked about. Thank you, great video!

thank you so much for this perspective. this question is really the core of the problem and in my opinion it is immediately connected to anxiety. i think that the big problem that makes one chose variety over and over again (even after having downsized before) is not really knowing oneself/having found oneself. this is definitely my issue. i am not certain about who i am and what life i want to live so i keep open all the possibilities - and in the end not really live any of them properly. it feels like i am constantly preparing for a life but not living it.

I don't understand the argument that less clothes equals less laundry. Less clothes means being forced to do more frequent laundry because you lose the ability to let dirty laundry pile up. I'm all for having a small and well planned wardrobe because of all of the other benefits, but if it leads to less laundry it's only because you're doing laundry more frequently or you're wearing your clothes for more days before you wash them.
