many,many times, it's when you go back to where you were and remember what you were doing,and go to get or do what ever it was,and you still can't remember, that it's worrying ! I found out what makes it happen (for me anyway) on the way to the place that there is something I have to get or do, I see something else that I have to remember to address, and in slotting that thing into my memory, it seems to push out the original reason for going. I think that reason may be only lightly held in mind. Say I'm going to get a 7mm slotted screwdriver, I haven't thought much about it, I just know I need one, so the other thing I have to remember, I do have to think about. And this seems to empty the holding spot for the screwdriver. I have probably expressed this very badly, I must think about it !!

I'm guessing you don't realize this, but these bags are designed to be installed without a need to remove the springs. In this case, cut the old bags to remove, then collapse the new bag, slide it between the coils. They're small enough to easily maneuver/ shift them around in the coil spring so they are oriented correctly.

I have a 2020 Toyota Sienna that I personally installed Firestone brand helper air bags. I didn't need to remove the tires or anything that I recall - just compressed the bags to fit between the coils. Once positioned, install the air hose plumbing, add air to suite, and they've been performing flawlessly ever since. Easy-Peasy.

Shaky hands is an old mechanics problem. A guy at my fathers workplace was shaky as H but the few seconds he needed for setting a bolt, nut or screw he became perfectly stable. According to the medics it was nerve damage from all kinds of nice cleaners, oils and other crap he had handled over the years. All in all it was the same as a really bad Parkinson's disease. Still he was the most experienced and knowledgeable mechanic they had. But it was interesting to see him put something together. You would never think he could get it done with those shaking hands, and every time he amazed me. He died a few years after retirement when his body simply couldn't handle it anymore.
@MonkeyJedi99
@MonkeyJedi99 Ай бұрын
There are several reasons a person can get shaky hands, including Parkinson's, arthritis, weakness, fatigue, and so on. For many of the non-fatigue shaky hands, applying pressure helps steady things. Like the pressure on a wrench, or pushing a grocery cart, or, for a crafter I watch, having his two hands braced against each other while he paints table-top gaming miniatures.

I used this kit on my 2012 Honda Odyssey work van which was always full of tools in Canada. I hated them. I maintained and checked air pressure regulalry. After 1.5 yrs they popped like this. So, i did some research and found the Timbren upgrade. Basically a beefier larger rear bump stop. Installed those and was MUCH happier. No more pressure checkups, no more headaches. Rode better too!

I have a 20-year-old Chevy truck, had to replace the bags once. The problem is you need a minimum air pressure of 5 PSI in the bags or they will get damaged. Manually having to check and add air pressure sucks! This is why I added an air setup that I can control with a remote. But it also will keep at least 5 PSI in the bags. Since doing that, they've lasted a very long time so far. I took a look at Timbren setup. I have zero experience with it. It looks cheaper and easier to install. I'm not so sure about right though. I put a lot of weight in the back of my truck and the back is sagging, I just adjust the air pressure up with the remote until it's level where it was. It rides quite good. But ya, You really need an auto air setup which adds to the cost. Of course there can be a lot more parts depending on the setup, the kit you want and or need. For example, the bads inside the coils are pretty cheap. Few parts needed. Pop the bags in the coils and some air lines. Add an air setup, the costs go up and a lot more work. I didn't see Ray add any air to the system. I hope he did otherwise those bags will not last long. Again, you need a minimum of 5PSI in these systems and if it's manual, you better be checking the system weekly!!! Timbren basically looks like a bump stop to me. If I had a manual system like I first did, I would keep a minimum of 10 PSI in them.

The tube is plastic and the bag fitting will grab on the line going one way. It goes on and doesn't really come off. I believe there are little spring clamps that should be in place. Are they really needed? I don't know. Ray did have to cut the tube. I don't know if they were there or if he installed them. it should be OK either way. I would use them. Those types of bags slip in place without having to remove the spring. Maybe it was easier to do that because it had old bags in it?

If you don't keep a minimum of 5PSI in those bags, they will get destroyed!! I didn't see Ray air them up. I hope he did. It can be a hassle having to check weekly. I screwed up my bags on my Chevy truck because of that. I ended up installing a remote controlled setup that will auto fill the bags to the pressure I set with the minimum being 5 PSI. I haven't had any issues with my bags since then. One time I loaded up the back of my lowered truck with 8, 6-Volt Golf cart type batteries. Very heave each of them for Pallet Jack use. My Remote battery was dead and the back of my truck was sagging as I couldn't add more air to the system which only had 5 PSI. My truck is 20 yeas old now and the second set of bags have held up very good. It was easy enough to get a set of bags only.

@@MonkeyJedi99 I must of missed that, ok! 8 psi is over 5, so it’s good. It should be checked weekly to make sure it is always above 5 psi. Personally, I found that a hassle and the bags got damaged because of that. This is why I changed it over to an automatic setup. Zero issues since then. Other than a dead battery in the remote after years. There are different air pump systems with different costs to them.

I appreciate Ray's attention to detail; i.e. always installing the proper fasteners for brackets , looms, etc. and fastening them properly. I just finished an all-day marathon replacing my PS pump on my 2004 Ford Ranger 4.0L V6. Somebody before me stripped out the two threaded holes in the mounting bracket for the two rubber bushed mounts for the reservoir. It's a $30 part and I will pick it up Monday. Also, half of the plastic buttons and two screws holding the left-side inner fender in place were missing. There were a couple other similar things I noticed, too. Critical? Probably not. Still irritating, tho. And it has only seen the Ford dealership and a Christian Brothers shop over the 183k miles I have owned it. It's a pity when you can't even depend on the dealership to do a proper job. There are very few wrench benders out there that truly perform the work properly. Kudos, Ray!

Without knowing it, dealerships are giving you and other independent shops a lot of business. Everytime they throw out a $3500 estimate for six bills worth of work. It’s that monthly floor plan bill. Got to pay it somehow when they can’t sell cars.

I picked up a 2005 Chrysler T&C limited. 100k miles, single owner. Port Charlotte its whole life , garaged LOADED, $3500. Every time id get it apart this would happen. Drove back up north in spring. Month later Poof old plastic, needed radiator, so I did that, ALL hoses, including all the heater hoses and that lil plastic valve. (Bought the metal). Belt, Idler, water pump, Flushed power steering, Trans fluid & filter, BIG OVERSIZED battery and added a 1000W semi truck/Can heater. Phew Ok was done YEAH!! That Fall Click, over bumps, NP its just the sway bar bushings HA HA HA Yeah Right!!!! I replaced every single moving part in the ENTIRE suspension system! But I discovered something neat Chrysler made an all wheel drive, US Forestry version of the T&C Vans !!! WHAT wut wut , my brain said! Stock HD parts found! 😍 After scouring Rok Auto, Amzn, and the web, I was able to coble together a Heavy duty clone to my normal T$C. Thicker forged control arms, loaded Kayaba Struts with adjusters, HD springs, Hub bearings, 1/2shafts, trans seals. All this other crap that doesnt show up under a normal search. T&C owners, its you quest for the Holy grail of T&C's. The US Forestry Awd off road, executives and fat budget middle management hoopdee. So anyway Now with $6000 in it its an old but like a watch, beast. luv it. Wuts next sigh.🧐😰

I've installed a lot of these bags. I have a set on my lowered Chevy truck. When I have a load in the back of my truck or towing, I can air them up. The thing with these air bags is that they need air pressure in them always. At least 5PSI or you will destroy the air bags!!! So I have a remote controlled pump on my truck and will automatically keep the pressure I set in them. Minimum being 5 PSI. The manual air fitting works, so long as you are always checking it, That was how I had my truck at first and I ended up screwing up my bags and having to replace them. So I added the auto Air compressor setup. The second set of bags have lasted a long time. Once in a while I can hear the pump run for a few seconds. My truck I got NEW 20 years ago and my system has been installed for almost as long.

I installed a set of those bags in my front springs of my 94 f150. Worked great to keep the truck level with the plow on. Sadly here in the great salty state of WI the poor truck has probably been recycled into brake calipers by now.

Also the airline to the airbag..... The way it comes underneath if you were to hit a big rock it would cut it right in half. But that don't matter because it's gonna blow off before. That happens without a clamp on it..

I hope the owners don't tow much weight. I don't think those Siennas are made to tow more than like 3500 pounds. Seen a few towing like 5000 pounds or more, and going thru transmissions every couple years. And, every one has the air bags in the springs like this. I guess that's the least expensive alternative over full airbag suspensions or those air filled shocks, or the stiff coil over shocks. Bad thing is those bags like this don't last but about 2 years and need replaced if you go thru the northern states and salty roads. Like their tire choice. One good looking and quite effective against hydroplaning tire with nice traction on various road conditions from dry to even light snow. Good to know these folks didn't cheap out on the lower cost suspension and tire options. Safe travels to them no matter what they tow. And, cheers, Ray and the boss unit..wife unit=boss, of course...LOL> Take care. on edit...btw, this looks like a good TV to add the Peddle Monster to and help that engine pull even better.
