Tom Cruise’s story arc on struggling with loss was brilliant. The pre-cogs were named after mystery writers. Dashiell Hammett, creator of Sherlock Holmes stories Arthur C Doyle and the Queen of Crime, Agatha Christie. Love how they used Schubert’s music when Tom was browsing the images early in the movie.

It took me watching it again. To realise that when Agatha was talking about their son growing up and going to college and having so much love in their house. She wasn't talking about what their lost son would've done had he not been taken. She was talking about what their lives would be like with their new son. Who is yet to be born.. So happy endings all round.

The theme of this movie is cited a lot today, as it seems that a lot of government legislatures in our so-called free world have been flirting with the idea of restricting protests by opposition parties for their potential for "future crime". So it is important, I think, that everyone see this movie to be aware of the danger. As to Tom Cruise movies, if you want to see more, I think his best work is found in his latest films, specifically, "The War of the Worlds", "The Edge of Tomorrow", "The Last Samarai" and one that may have a personal interest to you, the facinating WWII biopic, "Valkyrie".

Since it just came up in another reaction: If you have not seen The Island, I recommend that. It has a similar sci-fi action vibe. Don't wanna say much else about the plot.

I love your reactions Mary. This was a great movie, and brings up interesting questions about our reality. Precognitive dreaming is quite fascinating. It really makes you think because our ideas of causality are challenged. I really liked your reactions to the plot twists and the jump scare. Seems you might have a thing for Tom Cruise too. Fun!

I hope you watch The Last Samurai sometime. I’m not a big Tom Cruise fan (as a person) but I still think that’s one of his best performances. And it’s soooo worth a watch for Ken Watanabe’s acting and Hans Zimmer’s music 🙌🏼✨

Sci Fi movies based on Philip K Dick's works are some of the best of the bunch (check the adaptions section of his wikipedia page and it'll blow your mind) - which is good because he was a prolific writer, there's so much untapped potential out there.

"They" already do scan your face, at least here in the US. A friend worked on facial recognition software that one of the big tech companies uses on anyone entering their lobby. For the most part they don't need it everywhere though since everyone carries a cellphone. Even if you turn off your GPS, your phone still sees the different wifi routers around you and the signal strength. They know where the routers are from anyone that didn't turn off their GPS. A decade ago Facebook suggested my apartment complex neighbor as a friend. I didn't know her name or anything about her, never even talked, I just knew her face in passing. Facebook knew our phones spend their nights together seeing the same routers. Imagine how much better they've all gotten in a decade, how much finer details they have about our lives. Oh well, as they say, there's no putting the genie back in the bottle.

For me, if we still accept that the precogs are to be used, there is a solution which is much better than abandoning the problem: Just use it to stop murders before they happen. You do not have the proof to say that those people will be murderers, but I see very reasonable that, for example, you enter in the house of that man who was cheated, you take him away and then release him. Maybe give protection to the possible victims, put a localizer on him for a couple of months or something like that. Just like you put people in custody for a few hours even if they ended up not commiting a crime, but you have the suspicion that it was about to happen. I think that the technology would justify it. And then the end result would be the same: No murders. Because all the murders are prevented (even if the possible murderers are not convicted).

There was a movie in 1996 called Past Perfect with Eric Roberts that, as I remember, has the same idea of catching the criminal before they commit the crime. Anyway, this one is cooler.

Think about this. John is arrested towards the end of the film and the person running the prison says the halos make all of your wildest dreams come true. After that his wife breaks him out of prison, precrime is disbanded and the precogs all live happily ever after. Maybe the entire ending happened in Anderton's dreams while imprisoned in the halo.
