🦖Minus One was great. Definitely the best human story of any Godzilla movie. I hope Legendary keeps making Godzilla movies sillier and sillier...it's like Showa era 2.0. Cheesy hero Godzilla is always fun. I hope Toho continues to explore the darker side of Godzilla. Shin was amazing, and until Minus One it was my favorite.

🦖 I loved Minus One so much that I have seen it three times in theaters, which is a new record for me! While I prefer the more serious side of Godzilla, I can still appreciate the goofier and more outlandish iterations as well.

Same! It prefectly encapsulates the Traditional Godzilla, It’s about time we’ve gotten a Godzilla film that’s dark and serious where Godzilla is against humanity with no monsters to fight, It’s the Godzilla movie I was hoping to see after watching Godzilla vs Kong, I enjoyed that film but I was hoping that we would get a solo horror film, like the Original 1954 film, 1984 and Shin that makes you take Godzilla seriously and that’s exactly what we’ve gotten and it was absolutely brilliant, I saw Godzilla Minus One last Friday and it left me and awe, it was the Godzilla movie I was hoping to see for so long.

"Godzilla minus one" is my favourite movie of this year after Spider-man: across the spider-verse. Spider-Man's movie is animated so there's total creative freedom. This is its only advantage over "Godzilla minus one". I really love the feelings that the mc shows. For this reason my favourite scene is when he talks to the girl about his past and starts crying, it's the movie essence: a movie about Japan's regret feeling after the end of the war and the search for redemption (which in the movie is symbolized by Godzilla). I interpret it like this. Furthermore, the film is capable of making you fully feel not only the feelings of the Japanese, but also the destroyed environment in which they live and the weight of the atomic bomb (which Oppenheimer doesn't do very well for me).

🦖 This movie is the closest thing to a remake or a spiritual successor to the 1954 original. It showed as things we have never seen or thought about the franchise, made us really really care about the humans and made Godzilla terrifying again. I hope there will be a sequel or they make this into a trilogy. And damm its good to be a Godzilla fan right now.

Couple of things, from someone who has seen this film 6 times (yes, I have a problem, and that problem is that I haven't seen it 7 times), I don't think Noriko's survival at the end invalidates the pain that comes from when she appears to die. Because, at that moment, Shikishima believes she is dead. And Ryunosuke Kamiki's performance sells the absolute devastation that Shikishima feels in that moments. It's a gut punch every single time, even though I know Noriko isn't dead. Secondly, the ending, while obviously setting up a sequel, is also a reference to another Godzilla movie that Yamazaki took inspiration from: Godzilla, Mothra, and King Ghidorah: Giant Monsters All-Out Attack, which has a final shot that is almost exactly the same as Minus One's final shot. There are other ways that the influence of GMK can be seen in Minus One, but the final shot is the big one.

Don’t know if anyone has said this but the sludge is most likely black rain and is a effect of a nuclear bomb best comparison to that I can give is acid rain and also that being the case I think the ending could also imply a much darker idea with how the bomb effected people after the war with radiation and the surroundings people so noriko may not survive long after the fact or koichi due to exposure …that said could be reading into to far..also the ending with Godzilla may just be a simple nod to GMK tho if it’s a sequel oh boy but ig you could also see it as representation of how trauma/ptsd doesn’t just go away

100% agree with the character analysis. I was almost disappointed when Godzilla time came as it got away from the human part of the story. SIDE NOTE: When you talk about CGI and budgets....a trailer b4 Godzilla was for the new Aquaman. A perfect example of a shit story with over-the-top CGI. I won't even watch that one when it shows up for free on the crack sites. Godzilla is a MUST SEE !

Something that I took from the ending is that Noriko IS dead. The Noriko we see at the end is the same as Godzilla. Her cells are rebuilding and healing her even after being disintegrated by the atomic blast. If this is true, it would’ve been cool to see other people from the incident reuniting with their family. Adding a mystery for the sequel. Perhaps they can be linked to Godzilla in some telepathic way. That being said, I dont know if i want a sequel. I don't see what those characters have more to say. Their arcs were nearly perfect.

I cried manly tears of relief and joy at Noriko's "miraculous" survival. She was the emotional heart of the movie and having her taken away had me internally screaming like Shikishima while ashen rain fell. This Godzilla was hateful, spiteful, and a true test of spirit for a Japan on its knees. All that aside, I loved Doc and the salty Captain. They were absolutely brilliant mentors and friends to our sad lad.

There is a reason why Noriko was alive. It was talked about little by little in the movie. When Godzilla was attacked by tank fire, his skin and muscle cells were scattered. This is because it is implied that when Noriko was blown away by the blast, she received cells from the immortal Godzilla in her neck and chest, and was able to fuse those cells. That is the secret behind the black birthmark on Noriko's neck. The scene where Godzilla regenerates under the sea shows that there are dark clouds hanging over Noriko's future.
@bobfrancis123

@@user-gd6fp7do3w I have a theory that Noriko will Be tied to Mothra! Her first appearance was in a moth eaten coat protecting a child. Whether or not the scale that gave her regeneration powers will mutate her into everyone's favorite giant moth or link her to it remains to be seen.

He killed joker in 89, he killed clowns in returns, he killed two face in batman forever, he killed the ninjas by starting the fire in begins. he killed dent. he killed Talia. I still find it fascinating how no one had a problem with it or turned a blind eye until Zack Snyder directed a movie.

Godzilla finally has even footing with his colleague Kong whose 1933 film(35 cent ticket, took time with no TV & Internet) put him INSIDE our soul. Minus one is the Godzilla more than a monster movie soul saving turn we need today as King Kong was needed back then ❤. Think about what happen after WWII, we rebuilt it instead of enslave it as the United States could have. Minus one is to prevent WWIII esp. internationally(quicker with TV and Internet) because with Nukes there will be nothing to rebuild 🎉 ? Ojibyf

I honestly think TOHO should just buy the rights to the Cloverfield monster. I think they would have great potential to add classical horror tropes from European and Western horror genres and add actual bad people villains for a secondary human action plot in the background of a disaster. Because there are MONSTERS and people out there that will play off of that.

At first I thought that the last scene of the movie, with the black bruise writhing around Noriko's neck, who had miraculously survived, and Godzilla's amazing regenerative ability, was not necessary. However, when I thought of Godzilla as a metaphor for nuclear weapons, I was convinced that it was necessary. Godzilla will never die, just as nuclear weapons will never disappear from this world. I interpreted Noriko's black birthmark, probably a G-cell, as representing the semi-permanent effects of the atomic bomb. Shikishima himself, the main character in the film, is also hit by black rain containing a large amount of radioactive fallout, and Shikishima and Noriko are exposed to the atomic bomb. Naturally, the happiness of the three does not last long. Perhaps the director wanted to convey the seriousness of the effects of nuclear weapons.

15million dollars probably has more buying power in Japan's movie industry than 150 million dollars in the US. So Minus1 may in fact look better than a 200 million dollar US movie. If the original LOTR was made in the US rather tham NZ at the same budget, what do you think it would be like? We have the Amazon Rings of Power to help us guess.

In addition a tip on top of your thoughtful content, The reason why Godzilla's behavior is unnatural. (In the first place, Godzilla's existence exceeds the rules of physics and biology. That's why people are afraid of Godzilla.) Godzilla is TATARIGAMI as mention Takashi Yamazaki in a interview, TATARIGAMI is a spirit (high-dimensional being) that continued to be feared even after it died a violent death as a human. There is also a theory that he is the incarnation of a heroic spirit who died during WW2. (TATARIGAMI is also depicted in Ghibli's Princess Mononoke. The black stain is common in both films.) Although TATARIGAMI is a wild spirit and is feared and shunned, if it is carefully enshrined, it can become a powerful guardian deity. They are the gods that are worshiped. How would you describe the existence between God and living things as follows? The director and CG artists spent more than six months developing Godzilla's walking style.
