That last moment between Saul and Mike (yes Saul not Jimmy) shows to me why Mike is so distant and annoyed while talking to Saul throughout Breaking Bad. Mike opened up to him and Saul comes back insincere and I think it kinda hurt Mike because after all that time Mike finally opened up and Jimmy spat in his face.

@@gionidesyndrome149 But Mike knows him better than that so the fact he was Jimmy no longer and to Mike was now clearly Saul, Mike was done trying to be humane with him and goes the threatening/aggressive route with him instead (throughout Breaking Bad) But hey that's just my opinion/headcanon so don't mind me 😊

@@Jakeyisdead those are good points, the only fault I'd say ur theory has is that even after that when mike drops him off he still is fairly humane with saul and tells him the "one day you'll realise you haven't thought about it all morning" quote from his daughter in law, but I think that is the start of Mike starting to see who saul is (at that point in time) and that probably smudged their rs and I imagine similar events like that happened including mike trying to warn saul about walter, but saul talking about how he sees opportunity for profit. I still feel like BCS showed why even with that mike helps out saul from time to time however it shows mike has a lot more loyalty for Gus as they both have similar views on revenge and Mike only really turned hostile against saul because of Gus.

🗿18:23 I think rather than it being a defeated "No one but Kim will see me as anything else" it's him realizing that Saul Goodman wasn't all bad, and that there are in fact people who genuinely appreciate him. To the convicts he isn't the guy who destroyed Howard Hamlin's life, he's the guy who got their buddy's 20 years for drug trafficking charge wittled down to mere possession with community service. He's finally getting the one thing he truly wanted, to be respected for *his* talents and for *his* work. Just like Chuck was. He doesn't have to choose between Jimmy McGill or Saul Goodman, he can be both, without one lessening the other.

Similarly his talents in Cinnabon get him a comfortable job in the cafeteria and with legal knowledge he will likely be able to help review other inmates cases. While he may be getting the karmic punishment for his bad deeds, he's also getting some benefits from his good ones too. It's neither dogmatic black and white morality or complete nihilistic moral ambiguity, instead it has a Ying-Yang quality. There's still some good consequences burred in the bad actions and bad from the good.

in the court confession scene, im under the impression that not only was jimmy speaking to kim in the moment, but also speaking to chuck spiritually. chuck is described as the personification of the law throughout the show, and i think the fact that jimmy goes on record in court to confess his actions is his way of making it up to chuck the only way he could, with legal justice.
@RenaldyCalixte
@RenaldyCalixte Жыл бұрын
Um...kind of. I think it was his way of admitting to Chuck. That yes I know conning people is illegal and morally wrong. You were right. I think Jimmy has moved on from trying to impress Chuck. That obsession is exactly why Chuck and Jimmy kept having the same conversation and their relationship.

I disagree with the final take. We shouldn't tie a bow on this universe yet. There's room to expand it so much more. We haven't seen Oakley Doakley or Gettin' Messy with Jesse, or Better Blow Me Gomie. We could get artsy spinoff movies like "Hamlindigo" or "The Chicken Brothers." The final season of BCS has really stuck with me. It's so poignant and tragic. I really can't stop thinking about it. It's sad that the BB universe is over, but they struck lightning twice and gave us 11 seasons of incredible television. I wouldn't want them to milk it like a Disney franchise anyways. I daresay that BCS's ending was more perfect than BB's ending. It just feels far more meaningful. 🗿

Yeah it's brilliant right? I love the tone shifts throughout season 6 - There's obviously the time jump and then Nippy but there's also the massive shift after Nacho's death when the next episode starts with the couple cycling around to funny music in Gus's neighbourhood. As you say, Nippy feels like early Jimmy and early BCS. Those tone shifts really work as a story telling device for me - it made me genuinely sad to think of how quickly we move on from Nacho's death, we almost forget about him out there in the desert. If these vents happened in the real world, Nacho would have died 18 years ago and everyone who knew what happened to him is dead.

It's like she really wanted to return the gesture, to be back in Jimmy's life, to go back to a time when she was able to convince herself that it was fun, but she forces restraint because she's now saddled with the burden/responsibility of knowing where that relationship leads. It's my headcanon that Cheryl wins the civil case for Fraud and Concealment but loses the case of Loss of Companionship ( second degree murder)since Howard's death didn't occur during the act of one of her crimes. He died in the aftermath of a scam not during the act of one making a murder charge much harder to prove.

Cheryl is going to base her civil suit on fraud not an accessory to murder. Cheryl is a lawyer so she knows proving Kim is partially responsible for Howard's death is legally impossible. But Cheryl can prove Kim defrauded Howard and must pay damages to Cheryl.

I think the difference from Jimmy's previous apologizes is that Kim demonstrated how to show true remorse because she herself struggled with behavioral patterns of conning people. Whereas Chuck never dealt with this issue and is unable to teach Jimmy how to experience true remorse. Jimmy realizes Kim is ruining herself because it's the right thing to do and wants to copy her actions. Sometimes people learn through action instead of explanation.

I really like your interpretation of the walt and mike flashback scenes, making that connection is interesting. But I feel like alot of people miss that before walt answers about his regrets that he instinctively looks at the watch that Jesse gave him in early season 5. Which has the implication that deep down he most regrets how things went with jesse and that the whole grey matter thing is just another lie to cover for his true feelings (maybe he's even lying to himself idk). Which is also what saul does in that scene.

@@skatefan9495 I think Walt regrets not helping Jesse more during their partnership though. However if Walter wasn't so prideful and ego driven he'd realize he should have a dozen regrets.

🗿🗿🗿 Really enjoyed that video. I'll admit I was a bit saddened by the ending of this show, but you made me appreciate it in a whole new way. The plot about the man with cancer whom Jimmy scams makes so much more sense, and I thought it was terrific how it tied to Breaking Bad. I think the ending was probably the best ending out of the list of possible endings this show could have had. Bravo Vince!

Seeing aging Gene turning into a thief, again, after being one in his youth and after that happened, and seeing this granny charmer threatening an old lady was genuinely disturbing to me. Such a great ending. Also discovering all this time I watched a love story

I thought the last finger guns to kim by jimmy in the final scene was just his way of saying: "I love you kim. Thank you. Goodbye and farewell... It was quite a ride huh?" Its was just a way of Jimmy acknowledging Kim one last time, by using a gesture that they both used during their relationship. Not any way of signifying being "in the game".

The time jump is one of the best moments of the show for me, you saying we didn't get to see the final switch that made him become Saul is wrong in my opinion, we saw the switch directly before the jump, it was him and Kim breaking up. The jump is supposed to leave a sour taste, it's supposed to immediately recontextualize the character of Saul in BB, if those Saul scenes were in Breaking Bad we might see them as funny, but with the immediate context before it it shows us that its far more tragic and that Saul is really just a shell of a person constantly surrounding himself with distractions so he can hide from his pain. The time jump feels like the far more poignant and impactful choice than if they made a montage of him turning progressing into Saul or something.

Saul is funny in the context of viewing him as a guy who is the Magic Man for criminals. When you think about his past then its not funny.

🗿It was such a great show and I miss it every monday, it's bizarre to think that I watched lived one of the greatest storytelling of all time. Having said that, I would't be surprised if Vince or Peter return to this universe, tho I don't think it will happen anytime soon since Vince himself has stated several times that he doesn't want to keep writting villain chars, he wants to flip it and make a good character. However he does I will follow along since I have trust in him and his team. Regarding the ending, it was fitting. To me the biggest shock was Kim. Better Call Saul (and Breaking Bad) cannot be without her, even tho she's not in BB and in the original run, she wasn't planned at all. We all had the theories that either she will die or be a silent confidant and Saul never said anything but no one saw the obvious one: breaking up. I was so invested in their relationship and in fact, S6 made me hate them, they were truly heinous and awful in the last season but, seeing them breaking up, really hurted me so much and that explained so much of Saul in BB. We all wanted to have Saul and the moment that we have it, all we want is to have Jimmy. It really is a masterclass on storytelling and how to make a goofy side character such a force and, at the same time, creating a totally new character that not only defines the main protagonist but changes the perspective of the original piece.

my brother in Christ, these 2 shows are truly the best thing ever created, yk it's like poetry it 🗿 ik ik I'm about to spew cheese rn, so this ur warning: they both have proven to be a great help to me, literally fucking therapeutic and among other things I have watched, played, listened or experienced in any other way that are art, well, they they did help me, a wee bit. OMG I learned to overcome trauma and all other shit, to expand and accept the consequences, to not hide, etc. too much of an emotional dump to be had it all written out but yeah, gee thanks for being some of the most important silly lil things in my life that were good. bitch.

So about that….Vince Gilligan recently opined in an interview with Rich Eisen that Jimmy could get out in 30 or so years with good behavior. This is the same interview where he said “never say never” about the possibility of future spin-offs. So…maybe someday?

I have to say, though, something that Gilligan and crew evidently can't get right is continuity. Saul Goodman was easily my favorite character in Breaking Bad. Easily. I could not believe, tried as I might, that Jimmy McGill and Saul Goodman were the same person. There was no arc and no transformation to the Saul Goodman we saw in Breaking Bad. Bob Odenkirk, one of my favorite comedians, lost sight of who he was supposed to be. The show was entirely too serious and not funny enough, which was precisely SG's personality. Season 1 up until season 2 you can see that he had the formula down. It was funny and serious and clever. Such a promising start to a series. He slowly became more serious and dramatic as the series progressed. It was so hard to watch because, at this point, they were all taking themselves far too seriously especially being so close to the Breaking Bad timeline.
