Just made the two glazes tonight. The cake was beautiful! Couple tips…don’t add too much white. It can mask the gold dust. Anticipate that it takes a while for the mirror glaze to cool down so plan ahead.

Hi thank you!! 🥰🥰 ah I wish I knew, I have never used anything else but you can try looking up other glaze recipes! In theory, they should work the same as long as you find one that has the spider web/net effect ☺️

That looks beautiful! I got a Small skulls pan to make for fall for my daughters co workers . Would I have to frost these before using this method or do you think it would work without? I thought this would be really cool with dark burgundy roses. Thanks for the great easy to understand video!

Frosting before doing the mirror glaze is best to give a layer between the glaze and the cake otherwise I'm afraid you may not really get a super smooth glaze because it will start to sink into the cake. Also with a pattern like a skull you may get pools of glaze filling into the shapes. But you can always test it and see how it comes out!! That's part of the fun! And thank you for your comment! 😃

I love this! I want to make a purple mirror glaze cake with an atomic green spiderweb for Halloween. Do you have a non-chocolate mirror glaze recipe? Will your spiderweb effect work with any mirror glaze recipe?

Hi! Thanks! I haven’t yet tried a non chocolate recipe but you can find some good ones online! And I do believe the web will work with the regular glaze too!

Plan on making a mirror glaze cake for T'Giving. Does the glaze melt easily? Will it be be safe for a 2 hr. car ride?

Amazing! No it doesn't melt easily because it has gelatin in it, once it chills in the fridge and sets up you will be totally good to go for a 2 hour car ride!

Thank you so much for sharing this technique! I was searching for how to do this and your video appeared. Can this spiderweb effect be done with any color glaze instead of just gold? Is it the temperature difference that causes the web effect?

You’re welcome!! It can be done with any color as well! Yeah, I think it is because of the temperature difference but it also could partly be from a specific ingredient, I’m really not 100% why or how it works 😂 it’s like magic 😄

Sure! The glaze takes a while to cool down, and even in this video I think I remember I could have waited a tiny bit longer because it was pretty thin. Anyway, once the glaze gets close to temperature hurry and warm your web ingredients. Then quickly do the process all at once...pour the glaze and then do the gold swipe!@@rachelboothe5075

Haha once it sets up just gently go around with a knife and use a large offset metal spatula to lift it carefully up and move it!

what should we do with the glaze batter excess? do we just throw it away? or can we keep

I try to just make as much as I'll use so I throw away my excess. I prefer to make it fresh right before using. In theory I think you could keep it but I don't like to heat it once the gold is added.

I can't verify for sure because I've never tried it, but if it is similar to piping gel you could give it a try!!

What brand are you using? I used Wilton here and actually am not familiar with any other kind so I'm not sure why yours wouldn't be getting fluid. :/
