ABOUT THIS VIDEO:
Mirrorless cameras are slowly taking over the market, and there's lots to love, but are they reliable enough for professional use? In this video, we're talking Mirrorless vs DSLR for professionals! I'm sharing my perspective based on over a decade of experience as a wedding photographer, including the important considerations you might want to know as a professional wedding or portrait photographer thinking about making the switch from a DSLR to mirrorless camera system. This is coming after owning the Nikon z6 and z6 ii (as well as Sony mirrorless cameras, which my husband uses, and we use for KZfaq!) Whether you're just getting started as a new photographer or are in the market for a new camera, I hope you find this video useful in making the best decision for your next camera purchase!

I will say this, having the Sigma Art 135mm 1.8? Mind blowing. SUCH an intimate lens. I love it, and I often use it exclusively. (As a challenge at times).

Currently shooting with my Z6 ii, an upgrade from my D610 and I absolutely love it. One of my main gripes is the battery life on it. I ended up buying an extra one for a backup. I would recommend buying one or a battery grip. You could just make sure your battery is charged as well before going to take them

Thank you! I’ve been on the fence about the Z6ii. Your honesty is very appreciated. Currently shooting with my D750.

I think mirrorless is neat, especially previewing the effect of the exposure settings. It’s hard to think about changing as I have many D lenses. I share your love of the 85mm f/1.4 D. I used it recently for shots of my newest great nephew and the photos just plain reach out and grab you.

This is a great review of the options and perspective on the pros and cons. I finallllly switched to mirrorless after 10 years with Nikon DSLR. I'm now rocking the medium format Fujifilm GFX 100s and it's a silent beast! I love the clarity, ease, and functionality. I still feel 'professional' with it and it's almost like shooting film with the slower capture time. More intentional shots and less camera shake. I think the industry is definitely leaning more mirrorless lately and would be a good transition if you're starting or intending to switch bodies. Now I just need to save up for a 2nd body :P

Hi Chelsea! I love my mirrorless Nikon!! I am a little sad about the lenses also but with the sigma art lenses, do they require using the lens adapter on the Nikon Mirrorless?

Often, people think whatever they have is the better choice, since -- after all -- that's what they chose. I first got a Sony mirrorless camera in early 2015 and for a while, shot with both it and my Canon DSLR before gradually selling off my Canon gear as I transitioned to native Sony glass from adapted Canon lenses. I'm now on my fifth Sony body, an A7R IV. I think it's great that Canon finally has got some killer mirrorless equipment out, and with Nikon trying very hard to remain competitive as well. But I think, if it had not been for Sony owners pushing for updates -- and Sony actually listening and responding to their requests, we'd all still be shooting with DSLR's and missing out on all the benefits that mirrorless has. And I'm sorry but no, shooting with your Canon in Live View is not the same as shooting mirrorless :-)

Great video, I'm glad you're posting more. Regarding fast glass for Nikon, I urge you to try the 1.8s--you might just become a convert and stop missing f/1.4 glass. The 1.8s are smaller, lighter, and much less expensive than their 1.4 counterparts, and they really don't give up so much in terms of bokeh that I would trade my beloved 1.8s for them.

Oooooo! Thanks for posting this! I've been looking for tips on this especially since my camera is super old! I want something that does really great video but mostly excellent for low light / night shots! Anyone have tips on those specifically? Curious on other users thoughts!

I'd love to know how Nikon DSLR users who went to Sony Mirrorless with Nikon Lens adapter worked out. Camera alone, I'd go to Sony, but I do love my Nikon Lenses. So.. if Sony Alpha + F mount Adapter works well, I'd consider that. (any recommendations are welcome)

I use a Z6ii and a D850. The Z6ii wont focus well in very low light because there is no AFD assist beam on any of the flashes that work with mirrorless cameras. D850 is 1000x better in this aspect because if you use the focus assist beam on the flash it will focus instantly in complete darkness. I am surprised your video has not mentioned this if you shoot at night. For everything else I agree that mirrorless wins.
