I agree. Also, every choreography has their own style of making the mistakes, so technically it’s not copied.

It is almost directly copied, step for step, from Jerome Robbins' ballet The Concert. Like George Balanchine's works, Robbins' choreography is protected by the Trust, therefore it is illegal to copy it, even "in the style of." Mozart and Chopin is public domain so although ethically wrong, it can be copied unfortunately.

Exactly! If it's copied, does that mean you can't use a good phrase that someone else invented just because you didn't make it? That's so unjust!

@@kyonhou no it's not, there are many other videos where the pianist is playing in time and not dragging or going too fast. That may be how this particular pianist chooses to interpret the piece but in the end it totally messes with the final product of pianist AND dancer

Exactly, that’s like singing a song, you can add some of yourself in it like new harmonies but it’s kinda limited. It’s kind of sad how many people are saying this is copied.

I have watched another version of this, why do they always depict the ‘mistakes’ to be played by a girl with glasses? A bit stereotypical and biased I should say.

Dear Eileen Pollock, information that it is a choreography by Jerome Robbins is in the description of the video. There is also information that this performance was only an element of the competition at the Dance World Cup. Dance World Cup has strict rules and in this category the dance was limited to only 3 minutes 30 seconds - that's one reason why the funny start and end were left out. The second reason why it was left out is the lack of boys in our ballet school. Our ballet school is NOT a ballet conservatoire (what is a big difference in Europe). The girls who competed with this dance were only 8-12 years old, plus one of them 14 years old. These girls haven't even had a partner dance classes yet. I understand that by seeing the NYC Ballet so many times you have high demands, but you have to admit that they did very well for the fact that they are still just children.

I'm 57, and went back to ballet class last september after a 39 years iatus. Granted, I had 13 years of ballet class as a child, so I am not a true beginner but still, if I can do it again at 57, you can certainly start at 13. I believe Misty Copeland did start at 13, so go for it, if that's what you want. Maybe you won't become a professionnal dancer, but you still will be doing something you love. If ballet is your dream, make it happen. I did, and it's one of the things I'm happiest about !

The song is called mistake waltz it shows the dancers doing "mistakes" they are planned because it's part of the dance. These are just VARIATIONS of the original.😐
