I have mitral valve Prolapse regurgitation. For sure ! I knew I had heart issues since childhood. No one believed me. I went to a Free heart clinic when I was 24 years old. The Doctor said it was very obvious and I wasn't crazy. Also he said it should get better with age. Not to worry about it, and now I'm 50 years old. But I definitely had severe pain with it many times as a younger person. Many times I really felt like I was going to die. But then it got further in between. I still have crazy heart beats at times. But I'm just not sure if I. Out of the woods. I feel I'm good, but who knows.❤

Thank you so much for the information. I am 24 year old male. Recently I got to know that I have mvp grad1 without any regurgitation . I had Beta blocker for three days as recommended by cardiologist and also anticonvulsant tablets for 15 days as recommended by cardiologist. And I am active always with weight lifting and sports. And my main concern is the chest pain and the palpitation during workout. Thank you for the information you have provided.

Thank you for doing this. My cardiologist spent about 5 minutes with me after telling me I had this. He said don't worry about it, floss every day, go every 6 months to the dentist (take an amox. 1 hour before), try to live a healthy lifestyle, and call me in 3 years. He didn't tell me about the dizziness, the tiredness, the weird panic attacks/anxiety, etc. You're explanation is VERY thorough and VERY helpful.

I think how doctors first relay the information about MVP makes a big difference in how one lives with it afterward. The people who seem to struggle the most with it often also feel that they were basically given no information and the doctor acted like nothing was wrong with them while also not assuring them they're ok and how to manage it. I saw a cardiologist in the ER who DXd the MVP when I went in thinking I was having a heart attack. He was very helpful in showing on the EKG what he was seeing, hearing in the stethoscope, and what was happening with the heart valve (I've studied a lot of A&P so was better able to follow his explanation than some maybe), and that there would be times I would experience these symptoms, but that it's not dangerous but I should have some annual cardiology monitoring in my healthcare schedule and I would likely need a new heart valve when I'm in my late 60s or 70s but it would probably be fine til then. His careful attention let me know I could have these symptoms and just work on managing them instead of worrying that I'm about to die. My follow up visit with my GP was also good, though I ended up learning I'd rather not bother with meds to control the symptoms (beta blockers leave me feeling worse in other ways than the MVP symptoms)

Hey John how are you now..? Did you had any symptoms like chest pain before visiting cardiologist? Any medications you were taking?
@JohnBoysGold
@JohnBoysGold 2 жыл бұрын
@@skn2089 I'm still ok thank you! I guess I can elaborate the entire story. About 6 years ago I was rushed to er because I had a high temp that was not going away and my vision started to go strange (very yellow and seeing spots). I was diagnosed with meningitis and sepsis due to a Staph infection (possibly due to failing dental work). One thing we noticed in hospital is that my fingers started to develop red spots. These "oslers nodes" were indication that my heart had also been infected. Very scary. Anyway after everything I had been so blessed as to only have been left with the M.V.P. I do get chest pain in the divot between my shoulder and chest. Here's are the things that have helped - 1. Lots of prayer. Suffering and uncertainty draw us closer to God so don't waste that opportunity to get to know Him better or, if you don't believe, to simply ask for a sign that He's there. 2. Checking your own ankles. My new cardiologist said if the chest pain causes you anxiety reach down and feel your ankles. If they are swollen then the valve has gotten worse and get to hospital. If they are not swollen your heart is still moving fluid. 3. Hawthorne. I've used Hawthorn supplement almost every day since this all happened and I've never gotten a bad checkup. Dr Schulzes "Heart" is the best one but it's expensive. You can also buy tincture at most health food stores. It helps with heart damage big time. 4. Sitting AT the E.R. not IN it. This might be more difficult in today's climate but if you're worried about heart failure but also worried about the 2k emergency room bill, just drive yourself to E.R and sit in the waiting room. If you keel over then they will grab you, if your tension passes then you canwalk out with no bill.

I was diagnosed with mitral valve prolapse in 1983 at Mayo Clinic in Rochester, MN. I have a low heart heart (average being 48). I am very active. The last couple of months I have experienced lightheadedness and a fluttering sensation of my heart. I had a nuclear stress test and echo ultrasound last week. I am currently wearing a 30 day heart monitor. Thank you for this video. It has helped me understand what is happening and what questions I need to ask my doctor when I have my follow up appointment. 🙂

A few years ago I was diagnosed with mitral valve prolapse. And since I am now in my early 70's, it may have been an acquired rather than genetic condition, but I do not know this for certain. Was pleased that you mentioned taking magnesium as some other information I have read has indicated there may be a correlation between low magnesium and mitral valve prolapse. I recently began adding a magnesium supplement to my diet and it has made such a difference in my overall health and well-being. (No more painful leg and foot cramps at night and able to sleep so much better as well as a much lower stress level). I guess I am wondering if perhaps a chronic deficiency of magnesium may have been a factor in the valve prolapse and now also hope that taking the magnesium (along with vitamin D3 and D3 with K2) may help to correct this problem. Given how I feel now, I sure wish I had known sooner, but feel so very grateful that professionals like you are sharing your knowledge so generously with us! thank you

I know it’s an older video and it’s super helpful. What if I say no to a pacemaker? My family has history of heart disease and my grandmother once told me her only regret was getting a pacemaker and that her life became useless after that. I remember when she got it, and her commitment to exercise! Daily brisk walks, healthy eating etc. in the end, many many years later she was fully dependent and too weak and tired to care for herself and absolutely miserable, mostly about becoming a burden. So I’m considering refusing surgery and taking my chance with the anxiety, disinvests, and fatigue I already have thinking it’s either more of the same or even more difficult to have any quality of life after surgery.

Question, my husband had a Aortic Dissection 3 years ago, and gradually had SOB, some sharp chest pains, dizziness and has had seizures, due to lack of blood flow and oxygen for 2 days, due to wrong diagnosis the morning of his carotid did burst which caused more damage to the brain, call it a womens intuition, I ask his Doctor , please order a Echo, now the results, Leaky Valve which explains a lot of things my husband is going thru. He is having a Catherization soon to see if any other things are wrong, than a valve replacement. I worry about Stroke, could that be a possibility? Praying not but …..still worried. Seems to cause me a lot of pain often ? But no one seems to care enough to want to check !? I also Am very concerned about my blood pressure would that cause a problem with the mitral valve ? It's highest was 288/99... A week or so later it came down to 187/ 107 I thought well it's better in one way !! But again nobody seemed concerned at that last check up !? Is that a more normal situation !?

@@Naveen-mr1qz Hey there, sorry I didnt reply sooner, I didnt see your comment. I dont think it can be cured, I have good days and bad days... Most of the time its fine with the medication im taking. Sometimes, mostly when I have a stressed period in my life, I have sharp pain in my chest in one point, I have palpitation which drives me crazy and sometime air hunger. I take magnesium and it goes away in a few days. Excercise helps, I like doing yoga for example. Only gentle on the heart.

@@YorkCardiology I was given calcium channel blocker but can't take them since I can't swallow pills since birth regardless of shape, size or type. Unfortunately, pharmaceutical companies don't make heart related pills as liquid, chewable or dispersible form. I guess its game over for me and I'm only 27.

Hi Sanjay, I suffer from a severe Mitral Valve regurgitation and a prolapse. Ive has a stress test done, MRI of the heart, done, ultrasound done, EEG/ECG done. I dont really want to have a surgery. What (roughly) would be my life expectancy if i dont do anything? Also, on NHS, do we do keyhole surgery or repair?Thanks Ajay

Dear Doctor, thank you very much for your informative videos. I want to ask your opinion about my situation. I have MVP with a very mild regurgitation. I dont have any sypmtoms like dizzines or shorter breath but i sometimes feel some irregular heart beats. My question is; I am an active person, I have been doing mountainering and fitness for years. I always keep an eye of my heart during this activities but this situation makes me nervous a little bit. May i know if i should limit my activities for a some degree? My doctor said i should not avoid any physical activity but i want to hear your opinion. I am 36 years old male, fit and non smoking. Thank you so much...

Listen to your body. I think it's important to stay active. If any symptoms come up during exercise like dizziness, shortness of breath, palpitations etc then stop. Mitral regurgitation is a slow and progressive disease that can worsen over time so I would just stay in contact with your primary and get your routine work up down. Mitral regurgitation can lead to A-fib which can have lots of problems too so if you notice an irregularity in your heart beat definitely get checked out asap. Good luck.

They say MR is a slow and progressive disease but in my case, I was never found with MR and MVP.. But a week ago I got my 2 echo's and both the tests confirmed MR and MVP.. Let me tell You, I had three echo's prior to this one, only 6 months apart. Is it possible that U can develop MVP and MR in six months time, given that when there was no trace of it 6 months ago.. Confusing.. Let me tell You I do a Have a thick heart but not lvh.. I always wanted to keep a close eye on my thick heart that is why I repeated my echo's. Plz
