A video walkthrough of my new saltwater mixing station. These are 55 gal. drums from Uline: www.uline.com/... All other parts are from BRS.

Using the same pump to drain the tank too for water changes, that is brilliant, glad I seen this before I start my build this week

Well done and quite a traditional set up. I have added a simple circulation pump to my salt side to keep it evenly heated and to keep it from going stale. Yes o know there are no organics in the mix so it theoretically can sit, but a simple cheap maxi jet pump will keep the mix swirling.

I'm sad I can only like this video once. I was going to use brute cans because I didn't want to pay $500 for liquid storage containers, but ended up getting these barrels for nearly the same price as the brute cans. Thank you so much for the inspiration!

Loved the video! I sell saltwater fish and use a BRS RO unit as well. I am constantly changing cartridges and membranes and seeing your unit up behind the tank could make it a pain to get to and service. I would probably take the RO unit and shift it a bit to the right so that anytime it requires work you can easily stand in front of it without anything getting in your way. Thanks again for the great video!!!

Thanks! I actually thought about that very thing as I was setting this up. I left 1ft and a half of space behind the tanks so I can walk behind there and change out the filters. I've already changed out the RO filter and had plenty of room.

I've built a few water changing stations and trashed them. Yours is by far the best, exactly what I was looking for. Your video is short and still descriptive. Thank you I feel like most people make videos to hear themselves talk nowadays. If it's not too much to ask can you post the links for the materials you used, I would like to build the exact same water changing station.

Very neat setup. Pretty much the same as mine however I use the home depot pvc pipes and unions. A fraction of the cost with the same benefits. I used the rest of my money to buy corals and fish. Isn’t that what’s all about?

Agreed! I did get a bit carried away. It was collision course of sorts; a kid in a candy store and Christmas morning combined ! :)

Where did you buy the tanks?

Other than the 2 uniseals on the bottom, how did you connect the unions to the bulkhead? Did you just run pvc pipe through?
@nicklarosa4225 Жыл бұрын
yes, I pushed a pvc pipe straight through the uniseal. It's been holding fine; no leaks. Just be sure to get the correct sized uniseals for whatever pvc size pipe you're using.

Am having a hard time finding the correct size cam locks, what size and where did you purchase your. Planning on using your design

Wow 🤩 that’s a cool set up, how long did it take to build all these ?
@nicklarosa42253 жыл бұрын
I took my time. All together it was a weekend's worth of work. You have to measure twice and cut once! :). Then dry fit the PVC pipes to make sure it all fits correctly. Then glue and then check for leaks.

Great setup. What is the name of those hose clamps? Trying to find them online.

Thanks Mark ! Those are cam lever quick connects. I got them from Bulk Reef Supply.

What kind of rubber grommet are you using at the bottoms of the tank and the side of the tank? Any issues with leaking from those grommets?
@nicklarosa42253 жыл бұрын
I used 1" Uniseals. I bought them from BRS. I've had these barrels for just about nine months now filled with water to the top of the barrel. No leaks. www.bulkreefsupply.com/uniseal-bulkheads.html

Why do you have two quick connects between the tanks rather than just one?
@nicklarosa42253 жыл бұрын
I use the two middle quick connects to fill and drain the display tank for my water changes. I'll do that as my next video and show how it works.

How did you get the lid cut like that? I have 4 of these 55g barrels I've been thinking about using for a water mixing station. Super clean setup. Thanks for the inspiration!
@nicklarosa42253 жыл бұрын
I bought them like that. Uline has them with the separate lids. Great tanks, easy to clean. Thanks for the comment !
