in this video I am playing with the DecoArt Americana paints along with their pouring medium and wanted to see what I can make with them. The colors are pretty much pastel like when it comes to the saturation but this is nothing bad at all :)
See me making a ring pour with a lot of those colors and join me on my artistic road :))

Thanks so much :)) Well pictures never really show the real colors - I do have the same issue along with everyone else I guess. For me it works best when I make pictures directly outside in the sunlight as there the colors seem to be most accurate and bright. Most of times I still edit them a bit to fit the real colors - but close is good enough. Each device or monitor has a different color setting so everyone will see the colors a bit differently anyways :)

Hi. I love it! As always. I love your pieces & watching your videos. Your so kind & thoughtful!! I just bought a couple of the decoart paints myself. They do have a big selection of colors. Sense I'm so new at this, I've been doing the pours on small canvases. I'm going to get brave & try a large one lol I'm still having issues with mixing paints & pouring mediums. I've tried several diff ones. A lot of people state" try til you find what u like/ or its your preference !: my problem is I dont know that if I've never done this b4? I'm getting so frustrated. Feel like I've wasted money. I'm sure if I'm making sense lol haveca good day
@MKLGRMFineArt
@MKLGRMFineArt 5 жыл бұрын
Well when I started out I mixed my paints wayyyy too thin as I wanted to save on paints and finally money. I learned it the haard way that you waste more that way as the results are not as good. I told this hundreds of times already but for me...a consistancy as warm honey works best. The paint should run down the stick in one stream without dripping or blopping and it should combine smoothly with the paint in the cup. Mine domes up about 1 second before it combines, sometimes it is as fluid to immediately combine.

This is beautiful colors to begin with. I really like the bright spot in it. It always looked like a prehistoric animal to me from the moment you started tilting, once the paint tilted over one side I started seeing the mouth of one and perhaps the arms/legs of a young forming in the mouth. You are always entertaining and very helpful with comments explaining your methods. Your Art is nothing short of fabulous...thanks for sharing.

I love your ring pour, very nice, the bright colors are spectacular! It seems every video of hours that I watch I learn something or see something I want to try ;). Another good thkng, I am going to start saving my runoff paint the way you do. I try to save the skins that are pretty but many times they aren't and I usually throw away the not so pretty results. No more wasting for me!!
@MKLGRMFineArt
@MKLGRMFineArt 5 жыл бұрын
thanks Laura :)) Well there will always be some waste but I try to minimize it. The drip of saving is a good start and saved so much 'fresh' paint for me. As I basically never have good looking skins I don't really care for them but I do have a pendant making video here as well somewhere where I show how I made them work for juwelery.

I am going to start saving all my old runoff paint, I’ve just let it dry and you’re so right, it’s a waste of paint that I could be using for base coating
@MKLGRMFineArt
@MKLGRMFineArt 5 жыл бұрын
this idea also came to me along my road...As I was wondering that the base layer never showed and I used to much 'good paint' for it...there the idea was born to just keep the drip off...Occasionally I mixed black into it if I needed it dark as it usually forms a somewhat neutral gray.

I totally agree Kim and I was literally (you cannot imagine how hard it is to actually say "literally" as a German guy...) over the moon when they texted me and asked if I wanted to try them. I know DecoArt as a brand and I have some of their products which are distrubuted through Rayher here...but never ever tried their paints not the mediums. I LLLOOOOOVE the top coat. Will have a video about that as well and this stuff is really awesome.

This is gorgeous. I love this pouring medium but find I have to stretch fast or it starts to set up and dry. The colors seem to maintain and not blend like some do. You have to use a lot of the topcoat to get the painting covered and move it fast too.

Yes I also had the feeling that the paints got thicker after a while and that they started drying much quicker than I am used to,. And for the top coat I will make a separate video. I found my own technique there so I don't follow along with the recommendation written on there :DD

Well we Germans are raised watching nature in general and having an extra eye on it when it comes to arts is not less important to me. There are a lot of factors that we just have to walk the line with when it comes to pours and pigments and chemicals in general but as long as more and more people get conscious about it the better :)

This came out great! I really like the DecoArt pouring medium. I find the colors tend not to mix as much so less chance of muddying, and it seems the colors just dry brighter. I also find there's a little less working time if want to manipulate the pour a bit, but I take that as a challenge to get it right on the initial pour :D Haha! I'll be interested to hear your thoughts on the top coat. The shine is amazing, but I've struggled mightily with the unusual process. Hopefully you can find an easier way to make it work!
@MKLGRMFineArt

Totally agree and I also thought the paints dry quicker than my usual paints and they dry super silky, which I really loved. Awesome paints!!! Unfortunately they are really pricy here. Such a small bottle with 2 oz is at 4-5 EUR which is insame compared to my artina paints where I pay about 9 EUR for a liter which is 20 times as much paint :( The top coat is super great!! I totally love it and make a separate video about coating as well. I just apply it like resin so without the tilting and such...I did on my first attempt as suggested but while doing it I reconsidered and just poured it on, spreaded it around with my fingers and let it dry. Boom...perfect :)

@@MKLGRMFineArt Wow, they are expensive there! Here we pay just about $2 US a bottle. Might have to see about sending some to you. They have so many great colors! And thank you for the tip on the top coat! I tried the recommended method and really disliked it. Too much waste and it was hard to keep from getting an 'edge' at the bottom where it runs off. I tried a soft brush and also a silicone pad but still got marks in the finish. I'll try your method & see how it goes for me!

Cindy Calderon You as too cute ❤️❤️❤️ and yes I honestly rarely go for the recommendations...most of times I just don’t read them 😂🙈 when I followed along the one side felt thinner than the side where it was supposed to pour off and I also felt this was too much waste. You know I even scratch up my drip of paint and store it for base layers so this I could not let happen 😅😅 and it worked just perfect :))

Now seriously - I like abstract art and find it most interesting these days but I do not share the need to "see" something realistic in an abstract painting ... I enjoy colour, texture, composition in their pure abstract form. Frankly speaking, it unnerves me when people look at an abstract painting and the very first reaction is "Oh look there is a dragon/eye/face !!!!". It's like they were unable to see any value in a painting unless they find something realistic hidden .
@MKLGRMFineArt
@MKLGRMFineArt 5 жыл бұрын
Margot4454 well I think this is just a part of human nature and how the brain is wired. I personally do not need to see something realistic in them myself to be happy but many people do :) like looking in the sky and trying to see shapes in clouds. For me I never needed that but it makes many people happy if they see something :) So whatever makes people happy whether it is just the entire look as is or if they search for something :)
