In this video I am making a pretty simple ring pour but with a pretty sweet result. I wanted to get a marble effect with my fav colors (Blue and gold along with white) and as usual I talk about what I do on the go. Follow along and if any questions arise - let me know.

@@MKLGRMFineArt I LOVE the colors you chose! True story-I am color challenged! My husband and I had picked out colors to paint inside our house. We were happy with our choice. My sister stopped by and saw the swatches and said, “Have you bought the paint yet?” I said we had not. She asked if she could change them. I said yes. She picked the colors you have in this painting! We had more compliments on our color scheme, and I always gave my sister the credit! 🤣 I too like without cells more!! Now to learn how to pick coordinating colors!

fun fact...in the beginning I felt the ring pours to be the most boring stuff...As so many I wanted to have cells over cells until I realized that the larger one goes the more disturbing cells will become and the rings in comparison give you awesome gasplanet looks...So this is actually my most loved technique. Have a look at my 5 cup tool video...this is I think the prettiest result I ever made (the white/blue/turqoise/gold one :)

Oh please let me see the result :))) When it comes to resin the largest ones were 50x70cm when I did the Myriam challange with which I challanged her back. The Space scene with the sand on the bottom... Nevertheless I am currently working on a large beach scene of 90x120cm which I just need to resin. My biggest struggle would be designing such a large canvas for resin - and perhaps canvas is not the best choice as it might be saggy and costs you more resin in the end...I love to work on MDF boards for such sizes or having a structure (like the beach or geodes) where I can work a bit more defined. Also it might be a good idea waiting a bit towards the end of the working time to have the resin thickened up a bit...to not have it flow around too much. I would take the artresin or something like that with about 45min working time. The Resin8 resin with 15 minuts would stress me out too much on such a size :DD

LOVE this! I just this week bought a brilliant royal blue and plan to play with the same color palette over the weekend. So glad you did this today! You're always so inspiring! Two questions: I see in your supplies you use Liquetex Gloss Varnish. I used it for the first time yesterday and applied it with a wide sponge brush because I didn't want brush lines to show when it dried. But I still have fine lines in the dry varnish. Any secret to getting a smoother look when you apply varnish to dry acrylic paintings? Second question: I haven't yet done a canvas this big but have some large ones and not sure what type of pour I'll do on those. Have you ever tried 2 or 3 ring pours on the same canvas in different parts of the canvas? Maybe that's an idea for a future video! Thanks again for all your great instruction!
@MKLGRMFineArt
@MKLGRMFineArt 5 жыл бұрын
Thank you so much and I wish you the best success for your pour :) answer 1: You can apply as many coats as you like to get a smooth finish. Another thing that you can do is pouring more of the varnish on the artwork and quickly pread it around (I usually use my fingers) so that it can still self-level. It will cost more of the varnish and takes a bit longer to try but reacts like a resin layer---so it gives you a brushstroke free result. But test it on smaller pieces first and scale up :) 2. never tried a ring fron 2 pours...I normally dont like these connecting lines when 2 pours hit but perhaps I give it a try on a smaller scale to see how I like it...we will see :DD Have a look a couple videos back when I used the same colors on a longer canvas, that result was also super pretty :))
@laurielatour2862
@laurielatour2862 5 жыл бұрын
Thanks for the tip about using my fingers. I do a lot of resin work but didn't realize the varnish would self level like resin does. I'll try a second coat. It's just a few small pieces so won't take that much varnish. I really appreciate the tip! BTW, no matter how much I stir Floetrol, I was also left with small lumps, even after mixing forever! Today I strained the Floetrol through a small sieve first and it's amazing how many clumps and stringy bits are in the stuff. Then after I mixed my colors, I poured each through the strainer (into separate cups). Super smooth paint and no little lumps in my painting! I decided for me, it's worth the extra time it takes (not long really just to strain the paints). Thanks again!
@MKLGRMFineArt
@MKLGRMFineArt 5 жыл бұрын
Pretty smart idea though :) For me this might be too much of extra work. Didnt you end up with having many more extra air bubbles in the paint then? Great if it works though :) I will keep that in my memory for sure :))
@janbarber6204

I tried Liquitex gloss varnish, but have settled on Windsor and Newton gloss varnish, I use the sponge on a stick and dampen it first, then keep the sponge in a plastic bag in between coats.
