I had my disk replaced yesterday in Denver. Very nice Dr. and staff. Mine was 1 between C5&C6 Mine doesnt hurt yet. Maybe tommorrow. Nopain meds I didn’t need any. My left arm and half my left hand ached and lost strength. Already feeling much better. Thr Dr said I need to walk about 2-3 times a day. About a mile each time. Then in about 2 weeks I’ll start physical therapy. So well worth it. .

It’s been 2 months for me now. Feb 10 till today Apr 10. Feels really good. Doing therapy but still limited on how much I can lift. The scar has really gone down. I can move my head around really easy with no pain. No pain meds either. The hardest thing is not doing any of my chores or tinkering in the garage. But I just don’t want to hurt it till it’s all healed. Hope you’re doing better now. 👍

I’m 60 you will be fine it’s May 2022 right now I had 3 removed in February… Hell no it wasn’t easy my first two weeks are still a blur but I got through it. My body is healing go slow I wore my support for almost 2 months still on long drives I’m in support and slept with a support for a while. Now I’m at the working out stage and gaining my neck muscles back. I still worry about the long term effects and should I injure my neck could this metal do further damage, only time will tell.

Thank you for sharing your experience with us! I'm 58 and just had this surgery in Oct.. I do think that I made the right decision getting the surgery. However, I don't feel good. I'm in bed 80% of the time. My surgeon said not to lift over 5 lbs. The only thing that I'm cleared to do is walk. So, I'm doing that via my treadmill. I'm told that in Jan , I can start doing more and I think that will help. My Surgeon said that in 1 year, I will like him. lol I started looking on here for some encouragement. This has been a difficult journey. I'm used to being very active and now I work from my bed!

@@tamalike2073 I'm so sorry to hear that you're still having pain. My surgery date got pushed to June 22nd, but I am 100% pain free related to my herniated disk. However, I sometimes do feel pain at the end of the day like you do, but this pain is very different. Mine is now just muscular pain from muscle tension and Ibuprofen usually takes it away. I hope that's all that yours is. The pain down my arm and shoulder blade, and my chronic headaches are all gone. I used to wake up with migraines regularly because I would sleep with my neck kinked, but I have not had one single headache since my surgery.

This was so great to see ! I have a herniated disc between C6 and C7 after steroids the pain in my neck and shoulder went away but I still have a very weak left arm with the numbness and the nerve pain. I saw one neurosurgeon and he was kind of a jerk only talked about a fusion and said that it’s permanent and focused on all of the negative things so I am so glad I came across this! Fusions are permanent and with the procedure you had it can be replaced down the road if anything goes wrong. Very inspiring I have only been dealing with this for about Four months. I live in New England so I will have to do some research on who can do this procedure for me

Not sure where in New England you are at, but My Dr is Dr. Ozuna at sports medicine north. Love him, He listened to me when other Dr's didn't. He knew I didn't want the fusion done, wanted to keep full movement. I can say I'm happy I had this done. I went 10 years with my pain and symptoms. If pt and other treatments didn't help you. Disk replacement may help. Good luck.

Thanks for making this video I'm 58 years old and having my C5 - C6 disc replaced in two weeks with a nuinvasive simplify disc. I've had symptoms in my left arm for 25 years When I looked up but the last three years the pain in my left hand , arm and now sore neck muscles is every day without looking up , so two different surgeons said I should have this surgery done, so I'm gonna have it done at the hospital for special surgery in Manhattan. My concern is the post op recovery pain , being a motocross racer for many years I've had my fair share of fractures and surgeries so I'm no stranger to post op pain but operating on my neck freaks me out a little, seems like their is no way around the swallowing soreness after the surgery, I'll speak to my doctor and see if they can positions me in a way to avoid the back shoulder pain , thanks again for making this video.

My surgery was a success. Took about 2 weeks before I was back in the gym lightly working out. Did experience some right, partial vocal cord paralysis for about 6 weeks, which is a common side effect when multiple levels are involved. Pain and range of motion resolved quickly post-op. Give yourself about 2-6 weeks post op (*depending on prior health and fitness) and you should feel about 90-95% recovered hopefully. Good luck.

@@mariancornelia3132 the three months after my surgery were a good chance to re-align my priorities in life. I took long walks every day for a couple of months and spent a lot of time in reflection. It was pretty emotional and scared me at the time. I was eager to get off the pain killers because there's a history of opiate abuse in my family, but the long walks were a blessing. But it was tolerable with Tylenol during the day and the pain pills at night to sleep. I'm not one to take pain pills. Just listen to your body and your Dr. If you have difficulty with swallowing I recommend a liquid diet until you are comfortable with solid foods. Ice pops will be your friend for sure. If your Dr doesn't prescribe a hard cervical collar You might want to get one to help support your neck while you sleep, I found sleeping in a recliner was easier than laying down. Hope this helps.

@@highroller777 so my surgery went well. It's been about 6 days. My biggest struggle is being able to breathe while I'm sleeping at night. I do have a recliner now and it's getting better but I'm wondering if you could tell me how long you had to sleep in an inclined position? You said that you had to sleep on the couch but did you sit up on the couch? I've really struggled with my breathing partly because of the collar and also because my neck is a little fat and I snore. So I gasp for air sometimes when I'm sleeping if I'm laying down because of this recovery.

My symptoms started on March 29th. I’ve done 4 weeks of PT. I’ve gotten stronger but my symptoms primarily the paresthesia (tingling sensation to my R pinky and ring finger and sometimes around the forearm and elbow has gotten worst. I saw my mri at the neurologist yesterday. My c7-t1 herniation looks pretty big. I doubt this will subside anytime soon. My only concern with the disc replacement is low long is it good for? Today, hip and knees replacements last well over 10 plus years. Since this is a new technology, they don’t know for sure yet. Again, thank you for sharing.

"How long is it good for" Good question. One that I didn't even think to ask. Right now I've been pain free for 2 years. If I get 8 more years It's worth it. If I need it done again in my 60's I'd probably do it again. Living pain free and med free is worth it. (my opinion of course)

@@highroller777 I’m happy for you! I’m unfortunately not a candidate since my herniation is at c7-t1. Since t1 does not move and minimal movement at c7, fusion is recommended. I’m trying a few more things before I cave in for the fusion. I fear the 30% chance of developing adjacent joint disease or problem in 10 years. In addition, my surgeon said he needs to also do a corpectomy of my c7. Enough for me to not be in a rush especially since I’m fortunately 95 plus percent pain free. Just the paresthesia here and there.

I just had c5-6 replaced 3 weeks ago. The recovery has been less painful than the original injury was! In my case my doctor recommended going forward with the surgery before there is more permanent damage done so I can have the optimal recovery, but also because having a large herniation creates a higher risk of severe injury should you be so unfortunate to be in an accident involving whiplash, etc. it’s definitely worth talking to a doctor about, if you haven’t yet. Best wishes to you.

Hi, I did have general neck pain, in the back of the neck, more muscle pain. Dr did say that was normal, And it did go away after a week. No tingling or pain down the arm from the original pain from the herniated disks. (I do have shoulder impingement, that causes some pain in upper arm, not neck related) I used a heating pad on my upper back/neck, Did wear the neck brace to elevate some discomfort. My biggest issue after the surgery was more of my throat. About 3 months out now. Cleared to do normal activities. Scar is there, but I'm not concerned about it. Throat gets tight every now and then. Take it easy, and listen to your body. Everyone heals differently. And don't be stubborn like me and let people help you :)

@Charles Wetherspoon not great. My left arm numbness has improved. But ever since surgery I have had this strange sensation in my neck with an enormous amount of pressure. Almost like my body is very aware of a foreign object in my body and doesn't like it. I have pressure headaches at the base of my skull that throb into my left temple pretty much daily. I have a hard time getting comfortable when trying to sleep...my neck just hurts and feels like something is not right inside. It is hard to describe a lot of the sensations that I have...but I have not felt right since surgery and pretty much regret it. I've had more problems with pain and new tinglingand numbness that was not there before surgery. For example, my right arm gets tingly and numb since surgery but was never a problem before surgery. I also have had extreme shortness of breath ever since surgery accompanied by this strangling sensation in my throat. I feel like a flap in my throat is closing when it should be opening. I have seen SO MANY specialists for all the problems I've had since surgery and no one has been able to pinpoint exactly what is going on. But I saw a second neurosurgeon for a second opinion and he said he absolutely believes some additional damage of some kind was caused during my surgery. They just haven't been able to figure out what yet. I am definitely not one of the cases where someone woke up from this surgery feeling tremendous relief. This has been a very hard year for me and has costs me THOUSANDS of dollars trying to figure out how to fix whatever is wrong now.

@@christinebotelho8304 I'm sorry you are dealing with pain. I will say my pain did eventually resolve. I ended up having some other issues that are still on-going since surgery...but they appear to be muscular damage from where they moved everything out of the way at the front of my throat to get to my spine. But my pain did get better after a few months. I HIGHLY recommend massage therapy if your doctor says it is ok to start that. I started getting massages a few months ago specifically around my front, side and back neck muscles. It has given me a LOT of relief.
