Starlink DOUBLES Price of Mobile Global Regional Data Plan - $200 to $400/mo

Nomad's traveling globally got an unpleasant notification from Starlink last week - their Mobile Global plan is increasing in price from $200/mo to $400/mo.
For existing customers, the price goes into effect on 8/15/24 - the new price is effective immediately for new customers (although the plan is not currently showing as an option for new customers, but is there for existing customers to switch to).
Surprisingly, the Mobile Priority plan is still at $250/mo, which offers all of the same features with some included Mobile Priority data for ocean and high speed in motion use.

We travel 4+ months a year--we're their core demographic. I won't pay $150 a month, plus hardware, for spotty service in our preferred shady spots.

Starlink had my deposit for over 2 years. Then due to their pricing games, they lost my business.. They could have been getting $100/mo+ from me but now? NOPE Hear that, SpaceX? Betting there are thousands (million?) of people just like me..

Tmobile up the price for mobile wifi by making it $160 a month whenever they start it now everyone else will do the same

Sure almost makes VSAT pricing look good at this point... 🤣👍 Just kidding... It was close to $6K per month for that service back years ago and a lot slower. I have always said that its going to get data caps at some point and pricing will continue to increase as the number of sats is launched.

Maybe they're trying to just sunset that plan. This is what a lot of internet utility businesses do (like cloud computing). When they want to retire something but some customers still need it, they just raise the price significantly above the other options.

I have a feeling that T-Mobile and Starlink are colluding together to raise mobile internet prices. Case in point, T-Mobile and Starlink have already partnered on expanding cellular phones ability to use Starlink satellites. I wouldn't be surprised if T-Mobile's delay on the new Away Mobile plan has something to do with Starlink raising all of their plan's monthly rates. Then the $160 T-Mobile is asking for the Away Plan won't seem so out of touch.

Agreed. I thought it didn't make sense for T-Mobile to increase their 5G Home Internet service 220% for a new "away" for $160 plan because is is MORE than Starlink regional pricing and T-Mobile nomads would just migrate to Starlink Mobile Regional plan for $150/mo, but hearing about the increase of the Global Mobile Regional I do feel as though price fixing may be in the works, and T-Mobile's pricing will be on par with Starlink. I will see if I will keep Starlink or T-Mobile; I tried the Verizon home internet: it was not great in the 4 testing locations in coastal NJ I tried. It's unfortunate that the costs of these services are trending up instead of down. Hopefully Amazon will give these guys a run for their ,money with Project Kuiper and their promise to provide " fast and affordable internet" . I just signed up for the service and I had not even activated it when I received the 400$ price hike for the Mobile global service I signed up for. The plan was to move my service to Nigeria and use it mostly there. But with everything that I'm hearing I am considering cancelling altogether while I can still get my money back on the equipment and the first month of subscription. My only problem is that I really wanted to have the option to switch to Satellite internet whenever 4G is unavailable. However, it seems like the plan is to make it unaffordable to most of the remainder of the world. In the end, I might just have to suck it up and keep the equipment for whenever I need it. In any case, this is not an easy decision to make for me.

I cannot find where, but i just read that mobile regional is going to 200/mo my dual SIM peplink is excellent in 90% of the REMOTE locations i travel to in the West and I'm not trying to use a ton of power or subsidize failing X / Twitter or whatever it's called

That would be a sizable increase.. but we have not seen reports of that. But you never know with Starlink.
