There will be no end to traditional pedals. This is just another interesting but complex thing.

Actually the processor in here is an equivalent mobile processor - it's beefy for an audio device; but not magically multiple times more then an iPad. I'd actually counter that a newer iPad has more processing power because it needs to handle the screen, background OS, and all the other things an iPad does - plus the app running. That said, its not really worth comparing processing power of a device meant for one thing, and a device meant for all the basic "comptuer" like things, then an app.

I own a Zoia, and I'm just discovering Mod Devices. The environment that they have built seems SO RAD compared to Zoia. Literally everything about it, especially the "Global/Peripheral" stuff.. like templates, bluetooth expansion, the GUI editor, *Open Source via MAX/MSP*.. holy crap. Everything in Zoia has to be done on the pedal, on a per patch basis, limited to the tools that Empress provides. I still LOVE Zoia, and it really is great and powerful for its size and price. Currently I'm leaning strongly towards the Mod Devices environment. I'm also looking at the Poly Effects Digit/Beebo, it's a quad channel(4 in 4 out) touch screen pedal with a growing list of controls/modules(idk if it's open source though).

@@MindfulProgramming digit/beebo is also based on LV2 plugin, except they use Ingen as the plugin-host and most of their work is still very hush-hush.

that's what they're called bro. compared to other potentiometers that have a physical range that limits how far they can turn back and forth, endless knobs can spin infinitely.

I'm with you. This feels a bit like the Organelle, another gimmicky 'wow, it does _everything!'_ unit that did 'everything' not that well. Over the years, the things I've owned that got returned or sold the quickest have always been units like this. Not that everyone will find that to be the case, of course.

@@vooveks right, I just kind of don't see the use case. Like the zoia or whatever it's called, is... Is it a foot pedal? And effects box? A new Circuit-type groovebox? That's an odd combination to me. Maybe I'm missing the point...

@@bca5251 I'm interested in this to sit in the effects loop of my Eleven Rack, "possibly". In that case I would concentrate mostly on modulation effects. I have lots of other things to be "Synths" and "amp modelers" so am not looking for that. The browser interface is nice but seems like it still requires a monitor and mouse. I'm interested in something that could use e.g. TouchOSC on an Android tablet to control stuff. Not necessarily patch configuration, but if so then bonus. I'm still on the fence. There's also a really cheap audio dev platform (ESP 32 faust.grame.fr/doc/tutorials/index.html#dsp-on-the-esp32-with-faust) which supports Faust. If you put that on your Wi-Fi network then you can use TouchOSC I'm pretty sure. I'd like to program my own effects in Faust, probably more than I want to patch a bunch of virtual stompboxes together.

@@garyworsham9471 fiy, the MOD Devices web browser GUI works over bluetooth, meaning one can interact directly with the device using a smartphone/tablet, and a bluetooth dongle plugged into the MOD Device. there's a little setup tutorial in their Wiki

They are as organic as you make them. You could add loads of LFO's to slowly modulate all the parameters for instance. Or layer effects chains by using crossovers etc. etc. You really have to try to reach the limit of what this thing can do.

They're not dual stereo out. It's just two outputs and inputs

Zynthian (can also run mod-host), beebo/digit (use Ingen as lv2 plugin-host) and a diy version of the MOD devices called MODEP (using a raspberry pi).

I believe it's TRS simply for balanced output (which is a must on stage) so you don't need a separate DI box. You could still do fx send/return by using the second input as return, if you can limit yourself to one channel. Another option could be to connect a separate audio interface to the USB port, but I'm not sure if that's supported!

Yes. Although the largest sequencer is currently only 32 steps. Not sure if it's possible to chain patterns, but there are also ways to do more generative patches.

What does Logic have to do with it? This is a stand-alone device. In this video you saw the device being used while recording (otherwise the video would've been pretty silent).

It uses the lv2 plugin standard. These days most developers use JUCE and the DISTRHO fork of that allows to compile to lv2 -> github.com/DISTRHO/JUCE

I haven't played with the looper much it but it does have one. As for glitch, that's too broad a term to define without more info.

There are a couple plugins that are paid, but 99% of it is free (and opensource!). They are open for developers to sell plugins on their store. It's similar to VCV in that regard, except based on LV2 and standalone in a box :)

Mod Duo is 1.0GHz Dual Core, 32 bit, Mod Duo X is 4x1.5GHz + 2x2.0GHz, 64 bit.. It also has double the RAM and Storage space. I'm not sure how that translates into measuring that actual capability between the two though.
