Every time an "effect box" that's a bit more out of the box is reviewed by someone I enjoy and trust, my heart always slightly drops. The inevitable question of "am I too late with my prototype" always comes up. Thankfully, the last twentysomething times I always exhaled a sigh of relief. I wonder how long until I won't... That being said, very interesting stuff, thanks for bringing it to attention :)

What an impressive product. I hope other DAW developers & hardware manufacturers are paying attention, because if this baby came with a 2TB SSD and a VSTi support, I could just shove all my sample libraries on it and use it as a portable DAW + iLok + audio interface + project repository that works anywhere with a browser. I know Reason Studios have played with HTML5 prototypes of their RE formats (not the sequencer, though), and are probably developing their soft synths into hardware form, so, I hope they are especially paying attention.

Me too, I actually have two! (that I both should be using more often) This accessibility and extensibility is a bit less though, but the fact that you don't need an operating system is really nice. However it doesn't have any live patching and currently you cannot use more than midi device on the usb-host port. The MOD devices you can also use as a soundcard which the Axoloti does not support. I'd say it's a totally different target for the Axoloti. It is kind of in between something like max/pd and the MOD devices, except without an OS.

I don't think I've been this aroused by a piece of new gear since the NDLR (...which is awesome). I've been thinking something like this should be possible - nothing available really hit the right spot. And while I can't just drop Diva or Pianoteq in there - holy fuck, the existing library is already powerful - plus LV2 makes coding your own stuff... okayish (it's still C, so... ). Anyway...Benn: I love you - for your music, for these videos, for your humor (as dry as a particularly desiccating Cabernet Sauvignon), and for your inspiration to my own music-making... but my bank account wants to have a word.

There are more and more DSP languages and frameworks with LV2 build targets, like FAUST, pure data, JUCE... Regarding Pianoteq and other proprietary plugins - with Apple switching to ARM and more decent arm64 laptops coming out, I'd say arm64 is already a major platform sooo plugin developers will have to build for ARM in the future anyway ;)

Dsp generally has much higher resolution audio wise, hence why audio rate modulation isn't a thing you commonly see in vst instruments and if supported it runs relatively heavy on a cpu. Dsp can do that with much, much less effort because it's designed to do those things. And the same for counts for analog modeling, a dsp is much more efficient, which means you can model analog much more to the true thing without your daw crackling after having 4 instances open. Now is a dx10 the best thing to show off for an analog sound? I doubt lol.

@@SandcastleTheory I couldn't tell you, as I don't own any of their stuff, but I am super interested in their products. I've been reading their community forum and Wiki to learn more. There's been talk of MPE and workarounds, and the devs said that it's possible. If there were an open source MPE plugin, they could "simply" port it over, otherwise they, or anyone, would need to build a plugin from the ground up. they've just been busy launching Duo X and developing Dwarf(their December release). so TLDR: all I can tell you is that the device is 100% capable, but the plugin isn't there yet.

This problem could be easily solved if it would support class-compliant audio interfaces. Hey Benn, I have the Satriani Vox distortion pedal as well. However, when I try to use it, I hear tons of noise with the distortion. How do you get yours to sound so clean? Since I've gotten old, I can't seem to figure out why distortion/lead sounds so noisy for me. Maybe my pickups suck? The stuff you're producing with the Mod Duo X sounds great! I think I might go for the Mod Dwarf Indiegogo for the smaller footprint due out in December. I'm wondering if it'll be a cheaper substitute to the Zoia and with the software interface, it'll be easier to set up.
@BennJordan
@BennJordan 4 жыл бұрын
Hmm. A lesson I learned on distortion from touring with none other than Dillinger Escape Plan: Less is more. Too much distortion actually covers up the picking and makes your playing sound "not as heavy". Perhaps you'd benefit from dialing down the distortion and putting a compressor before it? I wouldn't call the Mod a ZOIA substitute. Empress has unique, world-class algorithms and the interface is unique in a way that inspires you in a different way. They seem like they're the same class of products but it really is apples and oranges.

i'm still getting caught up here. ya see, i hate digital to a degree that i avoid it when there is a viable analog alternative. a suitcase like this changes the intercourse out of alot of stuff, and probably makes the industry rather anxious . sure puts a skance on loopism i had only fantasized. i applaud the developers of these ideas, and i wish them luck. i offer my support in the form of my patronage. put it out there. pEACE, fAnG

There are two endless encoders. I kind of like that the other knobs are regular pots to be honest.

Out of curiosity, would it happen to be multitouch screen compatible?
