@@meppy9945 Nl you're good. It's basically just there to stop the stabs from moving back and forth and rattling. You pretty much just stick to the top like a shim. @@reubanramsden6230 With the 2.4ghz version it comes with a little wireless dongle like a mouse or other device would. The frequency is large enough that it can even go through walls and such. I have also recently gotten into the custom keyboard hobby. You did a great job on the mods for this keyboard! The stabs sound pretty good. It might have been the mic you were using, not sure, but at the start of the modded sound test, it sounded like some of the lubed switches were slightly scratchy- I didn’t know if it was just me or what. Regardless, I had some Alpacas that were slightly scratchy like this as well after lubing, which was remedied by applying a bit of extra lube to the sliders of the bottom housings so I figured I would share this info with you :) Subscribed! I thoroughly enjoyed your method of video production and the fun transitions. Looking forward to more content :)

Super high quality mod + video and music. Love the vibes! I got the RK68 in December of 2020, but the month right after they released the current hot-swappable version so now I'm just left with soldered switches 😭. I already have pbt caps and I'm planning to foam and tape mod. Since I can't take the switches out I'll probably try Push-Stem lubing them and then get dielectric grease for the stabs. Till then I'll be stuck with this board be I plan to get a custom.
@nathantaylor6850

Thanks! I hope the lubing goes well. Also, I had no luck with dielectric grease because I'm incompetent and my stabs stuck, so I just ended putting krytox in them and that worked 😅. Good luck!

It's super simple when put into steps. This was my first time moding and actually owning a mechanical keyboard, so you can definitely do it too. The reason I didn't put the lubing and clipping of the stabs is because I didn't know what I was doing either, so I couldn't make a good looking video and have them moded well. Basically you clip of the two legs that have a lip so that the bottom of the stab is flat. Thanks for the comment!

I don't think the mod effects sound much other than stab rattle. It's basically just a shim to make the fit of the clip on stab more tight so it doesn't rattle in its mount. I think either should work fine. You could pretty much use anything to do it. Hope this helps!

I got them from Lowes, the link is in the description. They're definitely not for this, but I like them since they add weight to the keyboard and a little sound dampening, plus they expand into the case so there are no gaps. There are probably some better and more cost effective options though. 😄

would it make a diff if i just apply the band aid mod? maybe clip the stabilizers as well without lubing anything?
@nathantaylor6850
@nathantaylor6850 2 жыл бұрын
If anything the biggest mod for the stabs was lubing since it vastly reduces the rattle of the wire. The band aid mod definitely reduces rattle in the fit, but not in the wire and nearly as much as lubing, however if thats all you can do for now it is better than nothing. Also, if you want to clip the stabs I would watch some tutorials first since I didn't show it very well in this video. Good luck! 👍

@nathantaylor6850

It's definitely really difficult to find keycaps that fit on a 65% keyboard. I spent days trying to find ones that I liked. In fact the first set I got didn't fit, so the keycaps in this video were the second set that I bought. I would just try to look everywhere for a set you like. Look up 68 key blue and pink keycap set on google and go to the shopping tab. Usually you can find a set you like, but from my experience the only good sets with the colors I wanted for a 68 key set were pretty expensive I just happened to get lucky. Don't just look on Amazon or anything, you really have to look around for them. I'll be on the lookout for some blue and pink keycaps for you. Hope this helps!

How thick should the foam be, if you want to foam mod the rk68? Thanks in advance!
@nathantaylor6850
@nathantaylor6850 2 жыл бұрын
If you have the keyboard right now you can look at the stand-offs for the PCB and see these ridges that stick out to hold the PCB up. That's the max height the foam can be at each of the stand-offs. Near the top of the keyboard probably around 1.5 cm and it tapers down to a few millimeters near the bottom. If the foam you use can be compressed pretty easily then I would get 1 to 1.5 cm; however, if the foam cant be compressed without a bit of force then get 1 cm and shave off foam as you go down the keyboard. I got expanding foam so I wouldn't have to worry so much about the thickness except for the bottom where I had to tear some foam out. Good Luck!

Why does the blue keys sound thocky while the white keys sound clacky?
@nathantaylor6850
@nathantaylor6850 2 жыл бұрын
That's a good question! In general the blue keys are the bigger keys on this keyboard. In the video I only press the big blue keys and none of the little ones, but the small blue keys actually sound the same as the white ones. Also, the more centered the key is on the keyboard the more hollow they sound usually. The expanding foam helps tremendously with this, but the subtle hollowness could also be contributing to a more clacky sound. Basically though, the bigger the key the more thocky which is why the spacebar sounds so good. Thanks for the question!

@nathantaylor6850
@nathantaylor6850 2 жыл бұрын
The case is what resonates the sound (similar to an instrument like a guitar or something), so I would change the case in some way by either putting foam in it or using the tape mod. Keycaps I think come second to this and changing them from ABS to PBT makes the biggest difference, or just getting higher quality PBT. It really depends, but those two things are very important in terms of the sound signature... oh and definitely lubing. 😁
