Has this Model X problem been cured?

Some Model S and Model X's have had a front drive unit shuddering under hard acceleration problem for a while. Tesla has recently issued a service bulletin that supposedly fixes it. I took mine in for the repair, let's see if it fixes the problem.

I have the new raven bought new in August 2019 with 6000 miles on it now. Shudder has been there for 3000 miles and is getting worse. Now does it on low suspension. Took my X to the SC in Tampa for "THE FIX" for shudder after 3 cancelled appointments waiting for the shafts to come in!!! Got a call tonight from SC saying "Sorry we miss diagnosed the cause for the shudder and the engineers have not found a fix for this shudder they are now seeing on the MX!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! What can we do as a group to get some kind of action on this. I love the car but spending over $100k on something sub-par just feels wrong.

I had a similar problem with my 2016 Model X. When I brought it in at the 2 year service, I mentioned it and they replaced the half-shaft, which completely solved the problem.

When you took me for a spin in White Knight last year and u gunned it - I absolutely noticed the shudder and didn't want to say anything because I thought it was endemic to the Model X chassis & suspension design and didn't want to rain on your parade by mentioning that my car (P3D) doesn't do that. Very glad to hear that you've gotten this problem fixed entirely. Additionally, it sounds like a good selling point that yours accelerates smoothly now - may be worth mentioning that in your ad Trev.

Same issue with our lady X , delivered 9/30/19 started at about 3000k miles. Have appt today will mention the service bulletin un your video , thanks great videos

Thanks for the update. My Mx has been doing the same thing. I was told there would likely be a fix this fall. Mine is worse on low and very low. I will be bringing mine in soon.

If you think its a solved defect, you are wrong, three replacements of clevis and half shafts on my X. Some poor sole with a week old X had his wheel fold the under recently and there are other that have been documenting the defect. Major bummer for Tesla X owners ☹️

I have a 2016 MX that had a pronounced shudder at 40-42 mph under hard acceleration. I waited for a couple of years until they recently released the third redesign. I just had the work done. Now perfect.

I have a Feb 2020 Model X with this issue. I have it set to default low, so it's really not a bother for me. That said, this issue did seem to persist into 2020 cars.

Hmmm anyone got a video of what the shutter sounds like? I’ve had my 16 model x P90DL for shout 2 months but never noticed any shudder

Trevor, hope you are well. I would like to know if your problem is cured... from what I am reading the problems re-appear after short time when parts wear in again. I am interested in Model X new, but not so sure after seeing this issue. ... Atleast in my opinion on a car of this cost/caliber. It's something I would not be able to accept. Please let us know your experience.

Thanks for spreading the word about the potential fix. Please make a follow-up video(s) to let us know whether the fix appears to be permanent or not. And make sure to expedite the test cycle by flooring it :D. On a serious note, does the fix change the camber at all, would it cause earlier tire wear, like using any suspension level below normal would. Or is this unrelated/not a concern?

@@teslaownersonline5805 Did Tesla provide any color on how permanent the fix was? My local service center are still learning about this and have not performed any such repairs yet. In any case, your channel has a wider audience, so in a few weeks' time from now it may be a good video to put together. Thanks for all the hard work!

@@teslaownersonline5805 I believe this is fixed only for MX previous to Raven (spring 2019) version. I got mine to service last autumn for this issue and no solution at all yet. It's frustrating with 120k car!

On raven the suspensions were reviewed and slightly modified. It's unbelievable they haven't solved this on a new version while reviewing the suspensions.

Thanks for sharing - I have had Tesla do fixes twice last time i sound like metal grinding on Chill-mode aceleraion on "high" they replaced the half-shaft that fixed the issue. Now the shuddering have started returning so will bring it up with Tesla when at service-center. Trevor can you share the picture of the part fix og a link to the description of the fix - Thanks in advance

My brand new 2019 X has the shudder. Purchased June 30th. Tesla service appt tomorrow. This is not isolated to older models.

Your car is pre raven the ravens shutter issue is of different origin

I purchased a 2020 Model X in March and I have this same shudder problem at every take off, regardless of speed. It's very annoying. Tesla service in Scottsdale, AZ says its normal.

donhudock I have the 2020 model x as well and my service center told me it’s normal. When I told them a 110,000 dollar vehicle shouldn’t be doing that, they told me I can always trade it in and get a different SUV🤦🏻‍♂️🤦🏻‍♂️

tesla in scottsdale and tempe are terrible, love the car but the service centers are among the worst i have experienced - mobile service is quite good.

Full warranty 50k 4 years Battery and drivetrain 120k 8 years

If you buy used from Tesla you get an additional 10k miles to take warranty to 60k miles or if you buy a high mileage used vehicle you get an additional 10k miles added to main warranty

BUT they still haven't fixed the other accelerating issue that Rich (Rebuilds) had with the Model S, that knocking sound the charging adapter makes in the glove box :)))

There's a service bulletin out for that too. They install bubble wrap around the charging adapter.

You are a bit spoiled 😋 Just image (if you do remember the days...) how it was with your last ICE-car. Some engineering problems require a bit of engineering TLC! Happy now!?
