The real thing is, Obamacare made healthcare available to pretty much everyone. But some states just decided not to find it. So in states like NY and CA most of the population is insured. There was a news article from the state I live in where a family was charged a little over $5400 for a 30 mile ambulance ride. That is about $187 per mile lmao. The ambulance bill accounted for almost 50% of their entire hospital bill. Absolutely fuckin absurd. The average bill for an ambulance ride for someone who is uninsured (at least in 2020) was between $900 and $1300 depending on the level of care you get in the ambulance. Even WITH insurance the average charge is $500. Those prices in the grand scheme don’t seem like enough to put someone in debt, but something like 50% of Americans don’t have any emergency savings and $500 is a lot of money to make magically appear from nowhere. It’s pretty wild.

My experience with the burnt toast theory: I ended up having a surprise day off from work, because a town-wide water shortage led to the school I work at being closed. My then-partner asked if I wanted to go for a drive with him, because he needed to go and buy some tools or something a couple of towns over. We got to the town, and he decided that he'd buy lunch first, because he was hungry. We were right across the road from the tool shop, and there was a bakery, so why not? I was waiting in the car for him to emerge, and just when he did, I heard what sounded like an explosion. It was the loudest noise I've ever heard, and it sounded like it was right next to me. I saw horror on my partner's face, and turned to see wheels, glass, and various car parts scattered across the road, and two wrecked cars. One person (allegedly possibly on drugs) had barrelled through at an insane speed and crashed into an old woman who was turning out of a supermarket. The old woman ended up dying on the scene. It was awful. The weird thing was that my partner told me he had been delayed leaving the bakery because the customer in front of him was having issues with their debit card. If it wasn't for those few extra seconds of delay, we would have probably been crossing the road at the exact moment those cars collided, and would have been mown down as a result. We would have been absolutely done for. Terrifying.

Yeah, it might seem weird at first, but once you've been near those unfortunate situations you'll recognize the "that could have been me" feeling it's describing. Like that Malcolm in the Middle episode where a car passes them and then gets annihilated. The coincidences of the world are shocking.

i really like the discussion about feeling insecure about staying home. i dropped out of college to medically transition and when people who don't know me too well ask what I'm doing and I don't provide the full context of surgeries, i can feel the judgement from them. i know I'm doing something more real and important than anything they're doing in business 102 but it still hurts

i am doing this too. my unemployed health insurance allowed me to medically transition while staying at home. I have had top surgery for free because of it and thats been such a blessing. but i know people judge me. i know that i cant explain the context of why in this small window of time i need to stay unemployed because it will allow me to fully transition and then be able to live the rest of my life without transition related medical debt (my parents are very supportive). @cameron2836
@cameron2836 23 күн бұрын
Honestly though, all the stories i hear of people transitioning are of people in an environment that they're *coming into* as their true identity and that's just so rarely the case. I started transitioning (socially) when i was thirteen, and was in school until i was 17. It's a whole f*ing ball game to transition in front of all of these people who already have a fully formed notion of who they think you are. It's draining to consistently deal with people who make a thing of it; they'll at the smallest level, act weird toward you- at the most extreme, but not uncommon level, harrass or assault you. But even just dealing with the looks, the offhand comments and questions, it's exhausting

40:00 As much as I understand the absurdism of having descriptions of imbedded tweets, I’m sure that these are visual descriptions for people that have visual impairments (aka having the article read to them by a text to speech tool), as is becoming common in a lot of places these days! It’s important that these kinds of things are added so all kinds of people can engage with content that otherwise would be less accessible to them, or inaccessible completely. Besides, this also helps keep the context of the posts in these articles even if those tweets became somehow unreachable.
@chuckmcluckin6082

So the story is that: 50 shadow aliens were shooting fireworks to warn these two people, who were burning toast, to not go in the plane, because a piece of it just comes off. Then a phone falls out of that same plane and lands on this vase located in the backyard of this high school physics teacher, Timothée Chalamet, and that was a sign to them that they should stop Kylie and Selena from taking a picture with each other. As someone who was once addicted to gamified gambling, I appreciate the line you drew against gambling ads. Any game with a gambling component, even some gacha games, have the possibility of promoting gambling. It takes a lot of personal accountability to avoid these games, of course, but it certainly doesn't help if a trusted content creator promotes a gambling game. The gamification of these gambling apps is very sinister. They are essentially promoting addiction by making it seem easy to get money. It took a lot of time and a lot of lost money for me to only spend a set amount of money on apps for the purpose of entertainment, not because I felt like I had to.

Teens literally end up dead trying to get a video for tictok and yet with this many people involved, and this long after there is still _nothing._ I'm not saying anything paranormal, extra-terrestrial/dimensional happened but the absolute lack of any footage is very strange...

The Roman fire brigade under Crassus (Mega rich guy) would literally go around putting out people's house fires ONLY if they allowed him to buy the property first. If you let him buy your house he'd put out the fire, but if you refused, he'd simply walk away with the fire brigade. So in a sense, 'Big Fire' really did exist.

Thank you for talking about covid! ❤ A big part of the confusion about it is definitely also public health messaging failures. The info about the current surge and long-term effects of multiple infections is all out there (like on the CDC website, for example), but they’re not doing enough to make sure people know (which is one of the main points of public health lmao). You have to go out of your way to learn about it - which not many people do - or happen to come across a news article. Not everyone will see those articles. Then there’s the issue of denial even when presented with this information. People really want to believe (or have maybe been led to believe) it’s a cold or flu-like illness and that’s just not true, unfortunately. Even mild cases can result in long-term consequences, and we know repeated infections increase your risk of hospitalization, health emergencies, and/or long-term health issues. Plus the flu is not mild either and also kills people 😵‍💫 getting it once or more times a year wouldn’t be normal or healthy either! The denial is somewhat understandable considering how serious things are. It’s scary. But ignoring reality is resulting in maladaptive behaviors that are only making the situation worse. People don’t think they need boosters anymore, they don’t want to wear a mask/respirator in crowded places (where vulnerable people will inevitably be), etc. The only way to get anywhere is to acknowledge and address our reality head-on and utilize the tools that we know work (vaccines, respirators, ventilation, air filtration, etc.) in a collective effort to keep each other safe. THAT’S what “living with the virus” or having a “new normal” should mean. I hope we’ll get there some day soon. Stay safe!

I just wanted to say, I really appreciate that you guys don't take any gambling sponsorships. They legalized gambling in my town and opened a casino which they're building to be a Hard Rock and they also opened several smaller places with gambling tables and slots, which eventually got shut down because the places were not paying their taxes, but anyway, I've seen the effect already on so many people that I know. Gambling addiction is not a joke and actually out of all the addictions it has the highest instance of people commiting suicide. It's not something to play with and it's just very insidious and very disgusting and it can and very often does ruin lives. I always give the side eye to anyone who takes on a gambling sponsorship, so yeah, props to you guys for recognizing that and not letting greed get in the way of having morals.

Ooh! ooh! I have a lot of plane anxiety! My brother is a commercial airline pilot (he worked so hard to get where he’s at and I am v proud of him) but I absolutely CANNOT fly with him. I do not want to. Ever. Not in a big plane, a Cessna, nah nah, it’s a “awe thank u but no thx 💕” from me dog. This last year, he flew out in some little prop plane (i can’t remember what kind lol) to a lil family meet up, and on his flight back home, accompanied by his wife and one year old baby, he had to do an emergency landing in the middle of nowhere kansas bc the landing gear was defective and wouldn’t come down 😭 And like. Yeah. Everything was fine. He remained calm and cool or whatever and maybe it’s not as scary as it sounds but ohmygod does it give me ✨anxiety✨ The summer before my senior year, I tagged along on a lil ‘flight lesson’ with some retired gentleman who wanted to get his flight lesson just because 🥲💕 he had fixed up some OLD ASS plane, one of those propeller planes with two sets of parallel wings; one above the windows and one below. Rad as hell. anyways, when we took off from the small lil rural airport, and it was apparent that the guy queued after us was quite impatient. He had a more modern plane, notably with the wings level with the bottom of its windows (idk, i don’t speak plane) and that guy was FAST. He took off like 5 minutes after us, but because our plane was so damn old, it was taking FOREVER for it to climb altitude. By the time Lightning McQueen caught up with us and our paths crossed, between stressed ✨but professional✨radio chatter (between himself, this dumbass who was barely responding, and air traffic control), my brother realized McQueen was RIGHT ABOVE US, like within 100 ft. And because those DANG double-wings on our plane pretty much made it impossible to look above us, and MQ’s wings blocked *his* ability to see us below him. Anyways, I was terrified lmao. Never seen my always-respectful brother so angry, and told MQ over radio that he could have killed all four of us. But again, it turned out fine! Which is great. the entire rest of the flight lesson, after discovering we were flying low enough that I had two bars (wild), I quietly listened to Aja on the raycons I got with Jarvis’s affiliate link lol I literally do have anxiety all the time anyways, and know that countless hours of training, simulations, and schooling must happen before even the *least* experienced newbie co-pilot on your united airlines flight is perfectly capable of flying your plane, and knows wtf they’re doing. So idk. I know it could be fallible logic but ahhhh so many bad things have already *almost* happened soooo what if something super bad happens 😭 That’s all lol, I’ve earned my oversharing badge for the day. Also, my brother says that if you don’t turn your phone on airplane mode during a flight, nothing bad will happen. He said “I saw it on mythbusters😌” Ok bye! 👋🏻
