We show you how to get sequencing with Metropolis, then add musically quantised complexity with clockable external voltage sources. For more see issue 286 of Future Music: bit.ly/FMU286

Absolutely ingeniusly designed. Shame that it's 600 credits.

It’s a nice chunk to drop down at once but I could probably piss away 600 credits in 6 months of pub crawls and munchie funds without even knowing.

Nice explanation, thanks for this! I'm about to start to build my first modular system and this has changed my mind from the Make Noise Rene to this Metropolis (though I will also add the Rene eventually.)

Man I feel as if I could just program the hell out this like no other sequencer. Like it seems more hands on and easier to get the sound your looking for. I’m gonna have to pick this one up for sure.

One of the greatest features of the Metropolis is, at least for me, the possibility to send out a BPM-exact master clock to all my other modules without needing an external clock coming from my DAW. This is great when I'm recording loops for sample libraries. I actually don't know any other module that can translate BPM to clock internally like the Metropolis can.

korg volca beats translates bpm to clock also / it's not a module but cheap and really compact
@thedeepblueskys

although it may not be what your talking about... I’m pretty sure Beatstep pro can accomplish this. I use it to clock the bpm to all my other synths via midi. All without a DAW. It really serves as the mother brain of my setup.

How do I make a 16 step pattern? I know I can set 16 stage steps but that is just 8 steps repeated.

Hello , can you give me a comparison with the a 160 clock divider from doepfer and using the metropolis which i have but not installed yet , which has one built in I have not received the a160 which is on order from the importers of doepfer modules here in the uk. The reply I got when I tried to cancel the a 160 from the order was to the effect that it was more useful than the basic one in the metropolis and would me more appropriate running a pair in parallel , it is puzzling to me whether I really need the a 160 which is not that wide or expensive Is the one in the metropolis adequate for a beginner or would I get a lot of benefit from keeping the a160. without the a 162 which I am not familiar with. I do not want modules duplicating functions , I am trying to conserve space and keep the cost down wherever possible. Thanks for any advice you could give me John Horrobin , lincolnshhire uk

Thanks. Can you explain how to shift the root note of the sequencer with the AUX (e.g. with an other Sequencer).

Made In Machines thinking the same, but on the other hand I like 8 the simplicity with 8 steps. Pittsburgh has a 8 step seq as well, which is much less Hp.

good review...although not sure if a like the metropolis...seems very rigid and traditional in the way it approach sequences ...any plans in reviewing the Make Noise René? Cause I'm looking for a modular alternative for my Arturia Beastep Pro

Could anyone recommend a cheap modular that I could use for my home studio. I'm just a teen so I don't have much money, but if anyone could recommend me one with Logic Pro X functionality, that would be insanely great.

Patrick Williams Don't take it so personally man. He's probably make a joke because there is no cheap way to get into modular (this video is for $580 module, and it's just a sequencer). The cheapest complete system modular I can think of is the Pittsburgh Modular System 10.1, which is $650, and is as basic as you can get modular-wise. Plus the fact modular has really high resale value, it's doubtful you'll find a modular in the sub-$500 range ever. Plus the Logic Pro comment shows you don't have much experience with modular synthesis, so you have a steep learning curve to overcome. It's not just a plugin you can just cycle through presets with, you literally have to build your sound from the ground up, so learn about synthesizer architecture before you even get a modular.
