The Moe Norman's Documentary
Filming and in Production now. Expected Release in 2023.
“Moe is the 'Rain Man' of golf. It's a character drama. It's an underdog story. - Barry Morrow, ACADEMY AWARD-WINNING WRITER (RAIN MAN)
Shy, unrefined and a bit unusual with a swing to match, Moe Norman clashed with the conservative country club world of professional golf, retreating from the PGA two years later. What should have been a forgotten footnote in golf history became a cult figure and a legendary swing.

Often known as the "Rain Man of Golf" and "The Mysterious Genius of Golf," Moe’s story is both a tale of unachieved success, and the story of a man succeeding beyond expectations. We trace his origins from a childhood accident, success as an amateur, failure in the PGA, his disappearance and finally his resurgence as one of "golf's greatest ball-strikers." Hearing from family, friends and many of the pros he competed against, the film examines Moe as a person and an athlete who didn’t have the social skills to survive the PGA, but became a legend on the Canadian circuit. It's a story filled with pathos and exhilaration, swinging through periods of despair, discovery, acceptance and finally celebration.
I asked Moe what he loved about hitting a golf ball.
"The thrill of feeling it,' he said. "Ah, that felt great. Now I did what I wanted to do. Every muscle enjoyed that shot. Oh, that was nice. That’s what I get a kick out of. The feeling of greatness."

About the Single Plane Golf Swing
gravesgolf.com/single-plane-s...
The Single Plane golf swing is not a quick fix golf technique. It is a system, beginning at address, that simplifies the most important moment of the golf swing - impact.
Starting at address on two planes where the arms hang straight down at address, the Conventional golf swing is complicated. Because the arms are hanging straight down, a conventional golfer must lift the body into impact creating stress on the back. This upward movement to accommodate the two planes is unnecessary. The Single Plane Golf swing simplifies the golf swing by eliminating the need for the upward movement by starting and impacting on the same plane.

After spending decades trying to master the conventional swing, then watching Moe (and Todd), I think the most radical difference is his lower body, and in turn the arms/club through impact. If Moe simply posted his lead leg, he would be arriving at impact like everyone else, but NO ONE else flexes the lead knee and tries to extend the club face down the target line like Moe. That must be the big difference and caused him to be the most accurate and solid hitting player in history. I find this fascinating. Thanks for posting it Todd.

@@ToddGravesGolf I was in the Iowa section and it was played at one of our section meetings. I picked up on the fact he was on plane. But I was so entrenched in the conventional swing I could not get past the set up. But now with your insight it makes a ton of sense. I am out of the business now and on my own single plane journey. I may show at one of your schools. Nice work I hope you have been recognized as a master teacher.

Hello Todd. I bet you’re going to really find this interesting. I’ve been applying Moe insight and wisdom to my disc golf game and yesterday on two different courses I probably thrown the best I have in three years I just can’t believe that I can apply his wisdom to Disc Golf with his golf wisdom.

Todd, thanks for these FANTASTIC videos of Moe - totally love them. Question - did Moe ever had back issues or tennis elbow issues after hitting so many balls during the demo? Surely he must have been sore, at least? We see his callous on his left hand from the heavy club and larger grip. Back in the days, those leather grips would be ripping his hands since he wears no gloves?

Moe would often say "Ive never seen a doctor". He never had back problems. Yes, he had some serious callouses and rough grips. But never saw him in any pain whatsoever. Even when he was 70.

Incredible. I have never been convinced that the accepted swing is the best way to hit a ball straight and consistent.

This is pure Gold. So many nuggets of truth here. I am a little confused about Moes grip, being a two handed grip, did it evolve after this to a overlapping grip or did it stay the same throughout his golfing career? Thank you for posting this, Todd.

Hey Todd, I’ve seen a video of moe swinging in his early years (maybe it was even at Augusta but he looked to be in his 20s or 30s. His shaft went all the way to parallel in his backswing and he lifted his left heel in his backswing. Do you know or think moe made any changes to his swing throughout the years? Or was the only difference was how big of a shoulder turn he made from his early years to later on in life? Also, do you have any video of him in his younger years? I’d be very interested to see some swings when he was 20 something or 30 something. Thanks

Let me ask you a question that I am curious about. If you were to make two swings with the same address, same setup, same grip and the club planed exactly the same way in backswing and downing, impact and through swing, but one swing lifted the lead foot and one swing did not, would you consider them different swings?
@roycemartin9068
@roycemartin9068 2 жыл бұрын
Todd Graves I’d consider those 2 swings the same, of course. I didn’t know a simple question would have got your panties in a bunch. I’m actually a big fan of yours and love what u teach. Just trying to figure some things out that’s all.
@ToddGravesGolf

@@roycemartin9068 My panties are ok. I was genuinely curious because I get this question quite a bit. When Moe was younger, his lead arm would bend, and the club would go to parallel. Again, same mechanics with a slightly bent arm. His lead foot comes off the ground with longer clubs because of wider stance but not the shorter clubs. Again, the swing mechanics are the same but there are degrees of it.

@@ToddGravesGolf they are the same swing, of course when he was younger he had better flexibility hence the distance he took the club back. Lifting the heal seems to me to make this easier, and now it is no longer necessary to reach the point where he starts his swing in his later years. but it's still the same swing. I'm a believer, to me it feels better , more consistent. Thanks for the training aids. God bless.

@ToddGravesGolf
@ToddGravesGolf 2 жыл бұрын
No a baseball grip is not what Moe used. He used an overlapping grip until 1994 and then stopped overlapping in 1994. Baseball is a completely different hand position.

Let’s be honest. His backswing goes nowhere near as far as he says it does while on the ground. And the same on the follow thru.
