In the mid-nineties, my grandfather was 94 years old and living in a nursing home. My parents went to long John silver's for him as he had been asking for it for a few days. It gave him food poisoning and his body was. Strong enough to fight it off. So while I can't say they were a 100%. The reason he died Them giving him food poisoning definitely did not help

LJS is either really good or really terrible depending on the individual store. But even as someone who really loves the food, it sits in your stomach like a ball of lead leaking gas for hours till you finally explosively diarrhea everywhere.

Some years back my dad participated in a white elephant gift exchange. He ended up receiving an $80 dollar gif card to long John. He gave it to the local homeless guy that begs at the red light everyday. Fast forwards a week and the local homeless guy dies of dysentery. My dad questioned the other beggars of whereabouts of guy that always at red light and they confirmed he died of dysentery after eating bad seafood.

Growing up in the mid 2000s Long John silver was kind of a treat for me cos its not too close to my home so we have it like one or twice a year and fried fish isn't super super common for me. There was the bell to ring too i guess. I remember eventually liking their cajun chicken alot in my teens but the price kept increasing so it wasn't worth it eventually. Today in singapore it's just slowly dying, even though they tried to display a tv showing they use fresh fish or smth which like ok I totally believe you bro, they even removed the Hershey chocolate pie which is like the last thing I liked in it. I mean I like their breakfast sandwich but that's it, they better be laundering the money or they'll be gone very soon.

My local Long John Silvers is still so good! Me and my mother in law both still love their food. To me, it’s still just as good as when I was a kid. Sucks that all of them everywhere suck cause im sure we’ll be losing ours soon then.

It slaps. The chicken is dope with the hot sauce. Fries are hyper greasy, crispy, and awesome overall. As a catholic kid who hated fish in the 90’s, I ate many “original wraps” with the fried chicken inside. I’ve been waiting for them to bring that back for 23 years.

I honestly burst out laughing when he read the comment about a LJS burning down. The LJS in my hometown, burned down. Not once. Not twice, but THREE times in about a 10 year period. The first time it appearantly wasn't that bad because they rehabbed the building and it was re-opened after a couple of months. The second time was a couple years later. That time the whole building was engulfed. They tore it all down and the lot stayed empty for a couple of years. They finally built a new building and LJS re-opened a third time. I wanna say like 3-4 years later. It caught fire again. The building was mostly intact. After this though. LJS never re-opened. This was like 5-6 years ago at this point. Last I heard the building was sold and converted into a Chinese restaurant.

LJS has been suffering for many decades at this point. they've been doing horrible from compounding issues with their product. In the past 30-40 years cod stocks, LJS' main fish, have gone down to being in danger of being extinct. while they have also suffered from the various catastrophic oil spills in the gulf of mexico for their shrimping. all in all, LJS is a victim of circumstance, bad luck, and downright failure to diversify.

I have a long John silver in my neighborhood and for the last 20 years that it’s been here. I don’t remember ever seeing anyone there. Like a single car or customers. Yet it’s been open none the less.

So, I would say that I am most definitely not a fan of Long John Silvers as they almost killed me when I was 5. Long story incoming, and do keep in mind that some of the events and details I’m gonna relay I can’t personally remember (for reason that will become obvious, also this was back in ‘99) so these are details that I either got afterward from my family members and my own medical records. So back when I was 5 my mother used to take me and my younger sister out to Long John Silvers to get fries and hush puppies occasionally. All was normal, till one day my mother found me unresponsive in my room. I was rushed to the ER (and later moved into an isolation ward) where the following would come to be: I contracted Shigella and was dying to massive dehydration (that’s right, I actually almost did die to dysentery), I remained unconscious and unresponsive for multiple days, the CDC got involved and an investigation was launched to figure out how I got Shigella (the results of the investigation was that the fry cook that day at Long John Silvers had inadvertently passed it to me through the food he made and later died at a different regional hospital some days later), and lastly after some days in the isolation ward the hospital paired my parents with a grief counselor after discussing with them that I may not ever wake up again. Luckily I did pull through after days of my family believing that their first born would die early. Needless to say, we had never went back and definitely never plan to.

The one by my house got closed because there was tik toks of the workers serving raw chicken and dropping it on the floor on purpose

There's a Long John Silver near me that has been there ever since I moved into that area (maybe around 10 years ago). And everytime I pass by, I never seen a single soul around that establishment.

There is a conjoined "Long John Silver's + A&W" close to where I live. Every time I go there, the LJS side of the store is completely empty and *_NOBODY_* eats LJS. Hell, even *_I_* don't lol.

I'm in Iowa and ours has a A&W restaurant too (which is burgers) like they are the same fast food restaurant...my only complaint is not have specific oil for fish and stuff cause if you too late everything fried taste like fish...and hush puppies are S tier...not sure how it is else where for sure

It was great back in the 90s. I believe mainly it went down hill because of the management and workers, and raising prices just wasn’t worth it considering the employees was like either you takings the wrong turn or like you just walk through the doors to the hood.

I haven’t had Long John’s in years. The last time I had it I got a nasty stomach ache and spent the evening on the toilet (probably due to how fatty it was). My family used to eat it fairly often because we’re Catholic and there were few seafood restaurants in our area within our price range.
