Part of the soundtrack of my youth growing up in Oakland in the 70s. "Sweet Sticky Thing" is one of the best slow jams ever. IMHWBO.

Ohio Players from Dayton Ohio were big in the 70s-other than their music- their album covers were also special and very controversial as they featured full length (front and back) of very scantily clad ladies-for example on the cover of the album Fire-the lady was only sporting a fire hose and fire hat-on the album Honey-the lady was covered in Honey etc. Other Ohio Player songs include Honey, Sweet Sticky Thing and Love roller coaster if you listen closely in the instrumental bridge on the studio version of Love roller coaster you can hear a woman screaming in the background which was rumored to be at the time-a female studio attendant being robbed at knifepoint then stabbed or a woman who fell from a rollercoaster. Both stories were denied by the band.

I was 15 when I saw one of my top 5 shows..K.C.and the Sunshine Band, with the Ohio players as the opener, Portland Oregon, 1977. Both bands played thier songs studio tight and sent us home happy, sweaty and tired from all the dancing!! ( I missed school the next day)

I discovered them in the mid 70's, and they brought the funk!! Soundgarden did a cover of their song "Fopp" when they first came out in the late 80's.

They used this for "Hell's Kitchen." That might be where you two remember it. To me, it's a funk song from the 70s. Mid. 74.. heard it on the radio in 75 a lot.

Back in high school, late 70's, when we members of the basketball team were warming up before games we used to play "Fire" and "Love Rollercoaster" by The Ohio Players, it really helped get us hyped.

Love this reaction! As a old, mid-western "cracker", I grew up on this along with KC and the Sunshine Band! No racial lines drawn in the sand! You just loved this type of music - just plain fun! There didn't seem to be a divide amongst the several genres of music "back then"...

Awesome. This brings me back to my childhood. We used to go trick or treating on halloween and one of the Players lived down the street from where I grew up. I remember going up to the door and when they opened the door, you could see the gold records on the wall across their living room. They were always super nice to us. I was a bit young to be a fan but my buddy's older sisters would always talk about how we lived right down the street from one the Ohio Players. Then later, went to Ohio State University for college in the mid 80s and used to listen to a band called R.C. Mob do covers of this song. Grew to love them then.
