Been there, done that. Once I calculated for 30 minutes, and was really happy and impressed with myself for thinking 6 moves ahead. 4 moves later I was mated :/ And I was clearly in a winning position when I tried to be smarter than I really am :D Seems like I dont have what it takes to be good in this game, but I still enjoy playing it.

Agreed, lucax tshotting. His humor is sort of like Flula's. Flula is that German comedian/musician guy who knows a lot more English than he plays it, making self-defecating jabs out of his "mistakes." Egads!! not quite as funny as Flula, but subtle humor he has.

Nobody might forever stay on top of his game. Arguably, Carlsen was competing on home ground in Europe. But, that was clearly not a blunder, period. Both players were under immense pressure, in the mind game - not least psychological. 🙂 That was a tense mental battle, at the highest international level. To judge a carefully thought-out attacking maneuver by the top-ranked player purely a blunder seemed an insult to his professionalism, undermining the spirit of world-class chess. ☺️
@Clics_Mordernos
@Clics_Mordernos 5 жыл бұрын
That g4 move was a mistake. I am not saying that magnus didn't play well or that he didn't calculated as far as he could, i am saying that the fact that he missed Knight X g4 proves that everyone makes mistakes. I didn't mean that comment as an insult.
@droceretik
@droceretik 5 жыл бұрын
@@Clics_Mordernos Blunder? Hardly an apt description. I think your comment was a blunder. Think more carefully before posting comments. It comes across as pretentious to imply you have greater chess knowledge than one of the greatest chess players of all time. Sure, any person in this world, including World Chess Champions are not beyond criticism but it seems some people are looking through a microscope to nitpick and then exaggerate perceived flaws. It is hard to imagine for ordinary chess players what play at a 2800+ level is like. I would prefer to praise Ding rather than attributing the result to a flaw in Carlsen's play.

Wow. What a game. The variations in the background... These guys are true rivals in this classic time format. We all know that Magnus is that extra level of depth, that extra kind of mastery, which happens to make him world champion, but not only that, world champion at a time where the general level of play by a wide range of players is absolutely insanely good. And yet, time and the again, Magnus manages to show that extra something: brilliance? Talent? Hard work? Ahhh.. vast knowledge? That keeps him ahead of the amazing super GMs in the top ranks of today's game. And then there's Ding Liren... The consistency of Ding's play, particularly in classical format, is truly remarkable. As Agadmator says, he is like a machine in his calculation. I mean, to challenge the greats of the past, like Talk, in an unbeaten streak at his age, and in a country that barely 20 years ago wasn't even in the running on the international Chess circuit? I mean, wow. This was a true clash of Titans. I'm glad it was a draw: 1.) I don't want to see Ding's streak busted yet, and if anyone could bust it Magnus could have. 2.) This was a CRAZY game! Neither player was taking it easy on the other, and for much of the game Magnus was on the ropes. But had Ding won, I am concerned that he might become a little complacent, and end up losing the next game thinking it'd be easy. Let's reiterate: the top players in the game today: nobody is an easy beat. 3.) It's great for Magnus (as I've mentioned in other comments) to have a real fight, even with the white peices. If the 'Magnus Effect' is a thing, which can easily be argued, Ding seemed to be immune. So Magnus got a seriously good, interesting, fighting game where he had to salvage a really hard position to avoid defeat. Do any of us think Fabi isn't going to putagnus against the ropes a couple of times next month? Of course he will. So this game was rare and valuable practice for the World Champion to fight back from a potential loss and salvage a draw, practice Magnus rarely gets from anyone. So, an amazing game, great for both players. Wow.

That record in rapids is why I think Magnus is going to stay world champion forever. I could see Liren or Shakh or Fabi having a chance in an extended classical series, but once it gets to the rapids, I think Magnus will be untouchable.

Would you be prepared to bet $100,000 that Carlsen will be World champion in 2038? I bet he won't.

I think there’s a missed winning move right at the end. Which is bishop to b5 which forces the rook to wither move or get captured right?

Due to ne4 attacking queen and knight ,if queen moves white can capture the knight with check

You ignore the threat and just move your bishop to lets say f1 and the pawn is pinned to the queen.
@BorussiaComps
@BorussiaComps 5 жыл бұрын
Actually f1 is not a good idea, but you put your bishop on a6 attacking the rook so Liren has to waste time to move the rook and the pawn is still pinned and you have time to move both your knight and rook while the queen moves from the file.

I know I'm a bit late^^ but can anyone explain why Ding can't just play pawn to D 4 at around minute 5:10? Attacking both Carlsens knight and queen?

I like this chess site because Agad doesn't patronize the viewers. He gives his analyzes with out trying to give us lessons in basic chess.

I'm tired working all day, can some1 tell me why black don't go for knight to e4 ~5min?? I know you get 4vs3 in defense, BUT one sacrefise is a pawn and the position feels better (don't know exactly why tho)
