Hello everyone! With the holidays coming and having to visit here, and there and yonder, and buy Christmas presents and figure out traveling plans, my life has been pretty hectic.
On top of that, Teddy has a mysterious cough that he has had off and on for the past three years. It seems to worsen in the Fall and Spring. He isn’t bothered by it. (as in he eats and drinks and does doggy things), but for me and my husband, it’s every minute or so continuous, hacking hacking hacking hacking. Nobody can tell me what it is. The only thing they can tell me from x-rays is that he has a large trachea, and that his lungs are large for his anatomy. They say as a result of his big trachea, he sucks in everything dust and bacteria and such. But what does that mean? Is it some sort of disease? Is it an allergy? What is it? His vet told me that in order for them to find out, I would have to pay $266 for some sort of “diagnostic” test. I have no idea whether it will truly help us to solve this problem, or if this is going to be with us, as a result of his getting older.
We have ruled out congestive heart failure, so that’s a relief. The other thing that I’m concerned about is collapsed trachea. From what I understand, this condition is caused when the rings of cartilage inside the windpipe get weak for some reason, and start to lose their tension. It is repairable, but through a rather expensive surgery that I probably would not be able to afford. for now, he is on a doggy, antibiotic and prednisalone, which is a doggy version of prednisone I guess? He’s very jumpy and eating like a horse, not like my little, fluffy, poodle boy. Sorry for all of the rambling, but I said all of that to say this. I needed some Moxie time! Enjoy!
